Adam is a 5 year old male Beagle Cross. Adam is a rescue from Cyprus who is now in kennels Cheltenham. Adam is looking for a very specific home, he has been returned to rescue several times purely because he wasn’t handled correctly and thus misbehaved. Adam has a bite history BUT this is manageable if he is handled in the right way. He has been at the unit since June 2016 and we have had no issues with him at all. He enjoys a quiet kennel life but does bark when there are lots of dogs coming and going, with him in the quiet wing he is quiet as a mouse and loves having his own space. With the bond that I have developed with Adam we have a mutual respect which means I can do anything with him from picking him up, carrying him, full vet check and showering him. However, if he is allowed to take an inch be will take ten miles!
Adam was a stray in Cyprus and this is evident in his behaviour around other dogs and people. He doesn’t know how to treat people as people and so treats them as dogs and communicates with them the way he would with a dog. This can lead to people being confused by him, not understanding him and, most importantly, not reading his signals and warning signs. This then ends with a bite. Adam walks wonderfully on the lead and has some recall when in an enclosed paddock, anything larger and his nose takes over!
Adam needs a home where he will be treated as a dog and not pulled around and hugged. He needs very strong and strict boundaries in place and these needs to be held as every day life. He needs someone who is aware of canine behaviour and canine body language and is able to read Adam’s body language towards them as if he was talking to a dog. In return Adam will be a great walking and hanging out buddy. Adam has spend a week with “The Dog Trainer UK” on Home residential training to show that he can live in a home (we have Kennels here) providing he has his boundaries in place. He aced his training as was perfect.
Adam needs a human who is confident in themselves and confident in their handling. He gets on with other dogs but he hasn’t been around cats or small animals. He also needs a child free home.
