Alan – 7 year old male Bichon Frise

Alan is a 7 year old male Bichon Frise. Alan came into us as an ex breeding dog. He will only be rehomed with another calm, neutered resident dog to help with building his confidence in the home and outside. He has had an operation to have an eye removed and will need medication for life for his remaining eye which has dry eye. Alan loves a fuss and is now a real cuddle monster. He’s always really pleased when his foster mum comes home and greets her with a lovely waggy tail. Alan has no experience of children but would probably be alright if they were older, dog savvy and stayed in his vision.

Alan interacts well with the other dogs in his foster home. He’s not yet playing with toys but is watching the resident dogs so this may come in time. It is unknown how Alan would react to cats. Alan’s housetraining is nearly there with just the occasional accident. He can be left for up to 4 hours with the resident dogs though at night he will bark so needs human company. He is used to household noises just doesn’t like the hairdryer! Alan loves his food and gets excited at feeding time. He is a slow eater as he doesn’t have many teeth so is fed in a crate so the other dogs can’t reach his food when they finish. He has chewed at wires and his plastic dog bed so he needs to be supervised. Lead training is a work in progress. Alan was very calm and well behaved in the vets.

An ideal home for Alan would have experience of ex-breeding dogs and their needs. New owners who are around for most of the time and a quietly confident older dog is essential. Much time and patience will be needed to gain Alan’s trust and help him with lead training and feeling safe in the outside world. In time this bubbly little Bichon will make a wonderful little companion. Alan is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in Stone, Staffs.
