Alf is a delightful male deaf dog. A wire Fox terrier, approximately seven years old, twelve kilos and the face of a cherub! Sadly Alf has had a tough life and has been let down by so many people. He has spent the last two years alone in a concrete kennel. Terrier SOS could not leave him there to die and so we have taken him under our wing. We are hoping to find the right person to help this boy become a loving pet again. Alf is currently in foster but we need to find him an only dog home. He is loving and wants to be loved. He has no issues when passing dogs outside the home, but cannot live with another dog yet.
Alf has lived so long in kennels that he ‘spins’ when he is stressed and it is very upsetting for us to see this for him. But we have been bringing him for walks, keeping him active and it makes him forget that he is afraid and let down and he has been spinning less, we are hoping that he will break the habit with further work. Alf also has a few fear based problems, if he does want to do something he will snap at you but if you give him time and patience and reward him, you gain his trust and he will let it happen. But he needs a terrier experienced home, no children and someone with the compassion for the lost dogs. He is a wonderful and affection boy and when you look in his eyes you can tell he wants to be loved, he just does not understand how to trust as no one has ever been kind to him.
We have a behaviourist and will continue supporting the new home, but it must be for someone that understands that rescue is not just about rehoming, it is also about rebuilding rebuilding trust and undoing all the pain that has been done to this dog. We know Alf can become a happy dog but he will need an extra special person to make that happen.
If you love terriers and you understand what compassion really means than please contact us. Alf needs you.
