Alfie – 6 year old male Lurcher

Alfie, a stunning 6 year old Lurcher, landed in our care in early 2015. We do have some history on Alfie as we accepted him into our care due to him struggling in the set up in his current home. Alfie is a bit of a mixed up nervous cookie but totally adorable with it. He can be easily upset and fear reactive around other dogs and struggles massively with his confidence. He is currently in foster as an only dog and is learning to settle and now okay to be left for around 2-3 hours alone. Ideally Alfie needs a home experienced with more nervous dogs as an only dog with someone around a lot of the time OR with a confident but not too overpowering bitch, however she will need to be playful when Alfie feels confident enough to start playing but not too strong that she will rule him and not allow him to be his own dog. We feel that a female Saluki type would be the best mix for him, a dog that like Alfie was not too overpowering and had a little bit of an offset on the playful side with a slight aloof edge.

Alfie is housetrained, is not cat or small furry friendly but does adore children. He is currently in foster with an 8 year old child who he loves totally. He is fine to be rehomed to a home with children 8 years and upwards. We feel children younger may be a little too noisy for him and this again may upset him. Out and about in the main Alfie walks beautifully, he is a sweet little dog but occasionally he will react to other onlead dogs and will have a shout and a bark, thankfully as he has absolutely no size or weight behind him this is easily manageable and he needs a home to continue to work with him bringing on his confidence. He is very worried by off lead dogs so best to avoid areas that has many such as parks etc until he has progressed a little. Socialisation classes would be much to the benefit of Alfie and he is used to this environment and has been taken to many an agility event and has even been started himself. Alfie is also used to travelling and travels well. Alfie is not cat friendly.

We are as always am being honest about our dogs, we really hope this does not put people off offering this little man a home as aside from a little nervous behaviour out and about he is a very easy, sweet natured and well behaved little man. He is also good off lead and has in his past home been fine with dogs he meets in this situation. Having traveled regularly Alfie is a good traveler and just settles down to sleep.

Greyhound Gap
Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in our kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homed throughout the UK subject to a suitable home visit being carried out. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Greyhound Gap, we would ask that in the first instance you could take a few moments to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire if you have not already done so:
