Arthur – 5 year old male Shih Tzu Cross

Arthur is a Shih Tzu cross Terrier who is around 5 years old and is being fostered in Leominster. He is a lovable scruff who would be best suited to a Terrier-experienced home. Loving and loyal, Arthur is at his happiest when he is pleasing his humans. He needs firm, but gentle, boundaries so he knows what is expected of him. He is a clever boy and learns new commands quickly. He lives with other dogs in his foster home – the older dog he will gently wash and the younger dog he will happily race around the garden with.

Arthur hasn’t been up close to a cat in the home environment but he tends to ignore those that he meets on walks. He is great with female dogs and neutered males but has had a grumble at entire males that he has met out and about, which could have something to do with him only having just been neutered. This is expected to diminish with time. In the house he shares his toys and food with the resident dogs. We are looking for an adult-only home for Arthur as he can get a bit too big for his boots and can grumble if not given firm boundaries.

Arthur is happy to travel in the car. He will bark initially but this excitement soon calms down and he sits nicely. Great walker on the lead, brilliant recall and he even comes back when he’s ‘busy’ investigating other things. Arthur has been left for a few hours at a time and takes himself off to his crate where he will sleep until his humans come home.

Arthur will take charge given half the chance. He needs firm boundaries and must not be allowed to take control. In his foster home he has exhibited some annoyance towards humans that want to get him off the sofa but despite being picked up and put on the floor did not bite. He is a strong character but his new family need to keep on top of his training and make sure he is aware of the rules from Day One so problems do not develop.

AWe are looking for an adult only home for Arthur with firm but fair owners. He would fit into most homes provided he is corrected straight away should he show any bad behaviour. He enjoys the company of other dogs or would be happy on his own with someone around a lot (but his dog socialisation should continue outside the home if possible). Arthur does love his walks – rain or shine – so an active home would be perfect for him.

Arthur is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters are expected to visit Arthur in his foster home in Leominster.
