Manson – 3 year old male Bassett Hound cross Beagle

Manson is a 3 year old Bassett Hound cross Beagle who is looking for a new home. Manson came into us via the RSPCA. He had been living in a home since he was born along with three other dogs. Manson was not really exercised properly in his previous home and now when he goes out he is a bit nervous of new situations. This will be worked on whilst he is in rescue. His recall is excellent whilst out on walks.
Unfortunately Manson does have a heart problem and has to have one pill a day for this (Vetmedin) and this would cost about £15 for two months supply.

He did go into a foster home but due to him barking at the resident cats and toileting in the house he was bought into rescue as an emergency placement. Here he has been fine with the cats, but the cats here do not run from dogs and he saw them as no fun and ignored them. He also has no reaction to small animals in cages.
Originally it was planned that he would be moved into the local centre, but they were going to put him to sleep because of his heart problem and being too hard to rehome, so I refused to hand him over to them. On the whole Manson is good with other dogs, but he needs to be introduced slowly, as he is worried about new situations as is common with dogs that are under socialised. He is a very sweet and loving boy once he has started to settle.
We need to work on his house training. He has probably never been taught anything, so we are treating him like an 8 week old puppy in that respect. Manson has lived with young children and is fine with them.
He can be left for short periods of time, but has the typical Bassett bay when barking so time would need to be spent building his confidence at being left. Manson has been neutered and will be vaccinated and microchipped, plus wormed and defleaed before he leaves us. There will be a homecheck and minimum donation fee applies.

Tuppence – 2 year old female Jack Russell Terrier

Tuppence is a Jack Russell Terrier of approximately 2 years old. She came over from Ireland after being picked up as a stray 6 weeks pregnant and never claimed. The pound were going to spay her as they could find no rescues to take her pregnant, but this would have meant having to euthanase all the puppies. When we heard about her and her babies plight, we agreed to take her to save their lives and just in time…there were a matter of hours before her operation was due!

Tuppence gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies and they have all now found loving homes. Tuppence was reserved, but a week before adoption was due, the home fell through, so she is once again looking for a new home.

Tuppence is an exceptionally loving and beautiful companion. She has got a wonderful nature with people, although she does jump up at young children. It is for the purpose of washing them, but it does tend to worry them so it is best that she is homed with children over 8 years old.

Tuppence lives well with my own dogs, but does have a jealous streak in her, so care would need to be given on introductions. It is only rarely that she will have a little snap (never at people!) but once corrected then she is fine and it is only ever over who is getting the cuddle! She gets on really well with my own resident four and has accepted all shapes and sizes of dog into the home since arriving ten weeks ago.

Tuppence is clean in the home and can be left for short periods of time. Her recall is excellent when out on walks although she has to go and greet every dog she comes across and then greet whoever is walking it!
Tuppence did chase cats when she arrived, but she has settled well with our own five. If cats were in the home, then they would have to be calm laid back cats who were used to dogs. She is terrier in nature and would chase if they ran although she would not hurt a cat…it is just her instinct.

Sadly she is not great with small caged animals. She was picked up as an adult and she cannot get past the rat/rabbit/ferret barrier, so she is best not homed with any sort of animal that would be outside in a grass run etc.

Tuppence has now been spayed, first vaccinated and microchipped, plus wormed and defleaed. A homecheck will be carried out and a minimum rescue donation applies. If you can offer Tuppence a home please contact us.

Nellie – 14 year old female Jack Russell Terrier

Nellie is an approx 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier looking for a home. We were asked to take her because the best the Irish rescue that had her could offer was a crate in the bathroom and they felt that she deserved more than that. No other rescues were interested in her, so we agreed to try and find her a new permanent home.

She came in as a rescue case from Ireland after being found in someone’s garden dumped along with a pile of rubbish. Unfortunately Nellie has an eye condition. She was born with a very small left eye (a condition called ‘Small Eye’) and she would have been born blind in this eye. Her right eye was very extended and swollen when found (as you can see from the picture) and very painful. The vet confirmed that this was a very bad case of Dry Eye and the right eye seems even bigger because of the comparison of the right eye being so small.

When she arrived in this country we took her straight to an eye specialist to ensure that their was nothing else they could do. The specialist was very happy with the way the eye was looking and confirmed that she would have to be on eye drops for the rest of her life. These can be obtained from this eye specialist and cost £6 for a tube that will last 2 months. Alternatively he is happy to speak to the new owners own vet to advise what eye drops are needed. Whilst at the specialist he had to give her a dental, spay her and microchip her. She will also be first vaccinated before she leaves us.

Nellie gets on well with other dogs and is fine with cats and small caged animals. She is a very quiet dog and likes to have short walks, but nothing to strenuous. She is very affectionate with people and not at all snappy.
Consideration needs to be given to her age. She cannot hold her bladder as well as a younger dog so needs to go out for toilet breaks more frequently than a younger dog. She has been known to wet indoors, although she much prefers to do it outside and normally her little accidents are near the door, so she is trying!!! Nellie would like a home where someone is at home all day and with no young children (10 years and over), but ideally an adult household with maybe another older or quiet dog that will not bounce on her.

If you can offer Nellie a home, please contact us. A homecheck will be done and minimum rescue donation applies to go back on vet fees.

Simon – 12 week old male Boxer cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Simon is a 12 week old Boxer cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy and has come in as an unwanted Christmas present. He was sold to a family who lived in a high rise flat, but who got fed up with having to take him out for his toilet breaks and threatened to dump him on the street.

Apparentely the law stands that the RSPCA can only take a dog under these circumstances if the owners actually dump the dog and it is then reported, but the flats were adjacent to a main road, so by the time anyone got there he would have been hit on the road. We decided that on this information, it was best for him to come into rescue directly!
Simon is very poorly socialised with other dogs and when he first arrived shook with fear at the sight of them, but he was sold at 6 weeks old and has not seen another dog since. He is brushing up on his dog skills now and settling in quickly.

Simon is due to have his first vaccinations and microchip on Thursday. He has also been wormed and defleaed today.
A condition of adoption is that he is castrated at 5 months old and a homecheck will be done. Minimum donation applies.

Bonzo – 5 month old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Bonzo is an approx 5 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was rescued from very bad conditions. He had been bought as a tiny puppy by a deaf couple from a pet shop who had three young children who ran riot around the place.

When the rescue went to view the dog he was laying on bare, urine soaked floorboards and had untreated Sarcoptic Mange with a piece of newspaper for bedding. The owners had been treating him every week with pet shop flea treatment…but it wasn’t fleas that were the problem! Bonzo lived in a flat but was never taken outside so he has now started housetraining. Luckily his dog skills are very good and he is fairly good with cats and absolutely loves people.

Bonzo will be neutered in about a weeks time once his mange treatment has fully worked and he is feeling a bit better. At the moment he is very itchy, but is far more comfortable than when he first arrived due to be treated with Stronghold (the correct treatment for mange).
He will also have his first jabs and a microchip whilst he is having his op. We would like to see Bonzo go to live with a playful girlie and he can live with children. He was very good in his previous home with the kids, its just that it was felt that his care was not good enough for him to stay where he was.
A garden is essential for Bonzo as he needs to carry on his training to be clean indoors and he will need a minimum 5 foot fence. Minimum adoption fee applies for this lovely boy.

Saidie – 10 month old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross American Bulldog

Saidie is a 10 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross American Bulldog looking for a new home. She has come into rescue because her owner had to work extended working hours and felt that it was unfair to leave her for so long on her own.

Saidie is fantastic with children (lived with a 9 year old, a 13 year old and a 15 year old). She is great with other dogs and lived with two cats. She is a very good all round family pet. Saidie will be spayed before she leaves rescue and will be fully vaccinated and microchipped, plus wormed and defleaed.

Patch – 11 year old Collie cross German Shepherd Dog

Patch is a rather handsome 11 year old Collie cross German Shepherd who was rehomed by Furry Friends Animal Rescue in Surrey in Nov 09. Unfortunately he has been returned to rescue because his new owner has gone back to working full-time.

Patch was originally rescued at the age of 9, when he was replaced by a younger dog. Then he came back into rescue when his second owner moved abroad, so he’s had a lot of change in his life.

Patch is great with children and would really love a new home with a family. He’s wonderful with cats too, but does get a little jealous with other dogs as he likes all the attention. He’d therefore prefer a new home where he can be the only dog.

Patch can be left for reasonable periods of time (no more than 4 hours) and he’s clean in the home. This lovely boy just wants a new home where he can relax and not worry about having anymore upset in his life.

Patch is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

Ross – 10 year old male Border Collie

Ross is a 10 year old blind Border Collie who was rescued from Ireland after being found dumped in a busy city centre. Luckily Ross was rescued by Furry Friends Animal Rescue in Surrey and in Nov 09 he found a lovely new home. Unfortunately he’s had to come back into rescue because his new owner has returned to full-time work.

Ross seems happy to live alongside other older dogs, but he’s not keen on puppies or lively youngsters. He’s lived with 4 cats in the past, but sometimes gets a bit excited by their meows! He would be best places without cats unless the new owners are willing to try very slow intros.

Ross is an extremely affectionate and calm boy who loves to sit and cuddle. He’s very friendly and could live with children aged 10 years or over.

Ross is clean in the home and he can be left for short periods of time without showing any signs of separation anxiety. He’s still quite an active boy, but he needs to stay on an extendable lead when he’s out on his walks.

Whoever takes this lovely fellow on will be rewarded with lots of love. Furry Friends believe his past life has been spent outdoors housed in a shed, which is such a shame because he’s great house dog.

Ross is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. He’s also blind, but please don’t let this put you off enquiring about him.

Josh – 7 month old male Mastiff cross Labrador

Josh is a 7 month old Mastiff cross Labrador needing a home. He arrived in rescue as an unwanted pet after a relationship breakdown. Josh needs a strong handler as he had received little to no training before arriving with us. Although young, Josh is a large breed dog and still has a little growing to do. We are currently working with him to teach him manners on a lead. He will need to be walked with a Halti as he is so strong, but this controls him very well.

Josh is a good housedog and is clean and so far has not chewed too much. We recommend that he is crated when left as it gives him security. The crate will be provided. Ideally Josh would like to go somewhere with a large garden that he can run about in. Josh cannot be homed with young children because he is bouncy and may knock them over. He cannot be homed with cats, but does get on with other dogs.

Josh is due to be castrated on 21st January and will be available for adoption after that. He will also be fully vaccinated and microchipped.

Poppy – 2 year old female Border Collie

Poppy is a 2 year old Red and White Border Collie looking for a new home. She came to us as an emergency because she had been taken to the vets to be put to sleep, which the vet refused to do because he was doubtful that they had been told the whole story.

Poppy lived in her home since an 8 week old puppy, but the people who had her rarely took her out, did not socialise her at all and hence she is nervy around strangers – she has never been taught any different! When a male friend came into the house an unexplained incident happened and she snapped at him and although it was said for no reason, the only person in the room was the person she snapped at, so I am suspicious!

Poppy came here and within ten minutes had sneaked over for a fuss. She then socialised well with two male visitors to the house and was very relaxed with them within about twenty minutes – offering and playing with ragga toys with them and attempting to get a fuss by pulling their hands towards them with her paw!
She is good on the lead, but flighty with strangers when out, so a long lead will be necessary for the introduction period and for a good few weeks after adoption.

Poppy shows interest in moving objects (such as windscreen wiper blades and a toilet flushing!) so we are not encouraging her to chase balls etc. She does not react to cyclists or car tyres though (a Collie trait that we have seen here before). She is good on the lead.
Because of her past Poppy cannot be homed with children. She is good with other dogs, but does not like dogs who pull faces at her (by this growl or snarl at her). She is particularly fond of young playful dogs and enjoys to rough and tumble with them.
Poppy has no reaction to cats or other small caged animals such as ferrets, rats or birds. Poppy would love to be in an experienced Border Collie home. She should enjoy agility or obedience training once she has gained some confidence. She is a very bright dog and deserves only the best after being so close to death! Poppy will be spayed, first vaccinated and microchiped on 21st January and will be ready for adoption after that.
