Kiba – 2 year old male German Shepherd
Kiba (ref 38d) is a rather magnificent and enormously friendly 2 year old male German Shepherd Dog with a very fine black-and-tan coat. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner was no longer capable of coping with owning more than one dog.

In spite of having lost his owner, his home and his companion dog, he is in quite good spirits - but the sooner he can find a loving new home, the better.
He is a very sociable dog indeed and is never happier than when he’s keeping company with the human race.

He currently only seems to know 3 or 4 commands, but is a highly intelligent dog who could easily learn more and who would respond enthusiastically to training. He would think that training was great fun and it would also help him to bond with his new owners.
Kiba is a pleasant, thoughtful and quiet dog who makes very good company indeed. Like any young dog, he likes to play, but will immediately hand over a toy if asked to.

He would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 10+ and very kind and respectful to animals. In spite of having lived with a dog previously, he doesn’t really seem interested in other dogs, preferring the company of people instead. Like most dogs, he would be certain to chase after cats and rabbits, so needs to live somewhere where there aren’t any to chase.
Obviously he is a strong and active boy who will need owners who can give him plenty of regular exercise and walks in the fresh air. Being a very intelligent dog, he will also need lots of opportunities to use his wonderful brain, as well as lots of interesting things to do and see. He loves people so much that he can get rather upset if left all on his own, so he would be best off living in a household where there was generally someone around to keep him company.
Handsome Kiba is a thoroughly marvellous dog and his great love of people is very touching. All he asks is to be allowed to be your good and trusted friend.
5Mar2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREDave – 2 1/2 year old male Rottweiler
Dave (ref 28d) is a very handsome and friendly male Rottweiler believed to be just 2½ years old. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner simply had too many dogs and couldn’t cope.
He is a very laid-back and easygoing dog who thoroughly enjoys being around people.
He loves being stroked, groomed and played with and is a well-behaved lad who knows at least 4 commands. He adores playing with toys, but is so obedient that he will happily allow you to take a toy away from him if need be.
Dave would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 10+ and very kind and respectful to animals. He loves to be with people and will repay kindly treatment with total loyalty and enthusiastic friendship.

He appears to get along fine with most dogs, but obviously how he gets on will largely depend on what the other dog is like. As with most dogs, Dave would be likely to chase after cats, rabbits and other furry creatures, so he needs to live somewhere where there aren’t any to chase.
Obviously he is a big strong lad, so he will need owners who can give him lots of exercise and take him for frequent walks. He will also need plenty of opportunities to use his brain, because Rottweilers like to be up and doing things which they find interesting and absorbing. A bored and neglected Rottweiler with nothing to do is always an unhappy Rottweiler.
Dave is an utterly superb and very lovable dog who deserves a caring, loving and active home with people who will take huge pride in having such a very lovely and big-hearted friend living with them.
26Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREBronson – 3-4 year old male Cross-Breed
Bronson (ref 27d) is an absolutely delightful brown and tan male cross-breed aged between 3-4 years old. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner could no longer provide him with somewhere suitable to live.

Bronson is very much a people-oriented dog: he loves to spend as much of his time as possible in their company, being stroked, fussed, played with, groomed or just sitting around enjoying being at the centre of things. He is a very, very sociable dog indeed.
He is also a bright dog who already knows at least 3 or 4 commands and could probably learn even more with a little extra training. Training would probably help him to bond with his new owners too.
He enjoys playing with people and with toys. He is also an obedient and easygoing lad who will immediately give up a toy if asked to. He will of course need plenty of walks, fresh air and exercise to keep him fit, healthy and happy.
Bronson would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 7+, kind to animals and not worried about being jumped up at by a bouncy and enthusiastic dog who wants to play. He seems to get along okay with some dogs but not all. Like most dogs, he would be certain to chase after cats and rabbits.
All in all, Bronson is a happy soul who was born to be somebody’s very best friend and playmate. He’s never happier than when surrounded by friendly and affectionate people - and if you can offer him that friendly and affectionate home, he’ll be the very best friend you’ve ever had.
26Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREJade – 10 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Jade (ref 39d) is a quiet and thoughtful female Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross with a black and white coat aged 10 years old and needs to find a warm and loving home where she can see out her life with people who really care about her and want to make her very happy.

She is a very friendly and easygoing dog who would fit easily into a new home. She already knows at least 5 or 6 commands and is a sensible and well-behaved girl who likes nothing better than to be at the centre of what’s going on. Being with people is very important to her. She is a sweet and affectionate dog who loves to interact with the human race.
Jade likes being stroked, being groomed and being played with, but at 10 years old she is mature enough not to be at all daft or over-excitable. She is a very down-to-earth and pleasantly sober girl and makes extremely good company.
She would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 5+ and very kind to animals, but might be best suited to a quiet, gentle and non-rowdy home with older owners who can more easily allow for her age and her quiet nature. Not that she isn’t playful and ready for fun, though….
She seems to get along alright with other dogs, but doesn’t appear to be particularly interested in them however. Her attitude towards cats is slightly unclear. Being a terrier, she would be certain to chase after rabbits, though, so she needs to live somewhere where there aren’t any to chase.
She will, of course, need plenty of walks and fresh-air exercise, because she is still a lively little dog and as interested in life as she’s always been.
Jade is a very lovely dog indeed, perfectly cut out to be a loving companion for the human race. Losing your home at 10 years old isn’t much fun, but Jade is a friendly and positive girl whose spirits are in good shape and who will respond happily and enthusiastically to anyone who wants to be her new best friend and invite her into their life. Could you be that new best friend?
26Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREBishop – 5 year old male Cross-Breed
Bishop (red 2d) is a very friendly and playful 5 year old tri-coloured male crossbreed. His last owner brought him to the RSPCA Centre and abandoned him here. He is a happy and lively dog who thoroughly enjoys being with people and adores being stroked, groomed, played with and made a huge fuss of. He loves being right at the heart of whatever’s going on.

Bishop would make an excellent playmate, because he’s full of beans and happy enthusiasm. He loves playing, both with people and with toys, and especially likes a good game of tug o’ war. He would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 7+, kind to animals and used to cheerful, bouncy dogs.
He currently only seems to know 1 or 2 commands, because his last owner doesn’t appear to have devoted much time to training him, but he is a very sparky dog who should be able to learn a few more commands. In fact, he would probably enjoy and benefit from more training as it would definitely help him to bond with his new owners and help him to learn his place in his new home.
Bishop needs a home where there will generally be someone around to keep him company, as he gets rather upset if he’s left all on his own. He is by nature a very friendly and interactive dog, so being with people is very important to him.
He appears to get along with other dogs, but (like most dogs) he would be certain to chase after cats, so he needs to live in a household where there aren’t any to chase. He will of course need plenty of regular walks and fun and games, because he is a very playful and lively lad who needs a good amount of exercise to keep him healthy and happy.

Bishop will make an immensely perky and lovable family companion and friend. If you can offer him all the love, care, fun and exercise he needs, he’ll respond with masses of big-hearted friendship, love and enthusiasm and be your very best chum for the rest of his life.
2Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MORELexi – 3 year old female Rottweiler
Lexi is an utterly adorable and hugely friendly female Rottweiler (ref. 210d) aged 3 years old. She was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre by an Inspector because her last owners simply had too many animals. If she woofs at you, it is only because she doesn’t understand why you are staring at her in her kennel and is asking why. She is actually one of the very nicest, gentlest dogs you could ever meet and is very quiet too.

Lexi is so full of love and genuine affection for people that it is obvious that she has only ever known kindness. She will be absolutely delighted to meet you and make friends with you if you ask a member of staff to bring her out.
She would be suitable to live in an active household where any children were aged 10+ and kind to animals. She previously lived with several other Rottweilers and also with cats, with whom she seems to get along, but would be certain to chase after rabbits and other small furry animals.

Not surprisingly, Lexi loves being groomed, stroked and made a fuss of. She likes to play, both with people and with toys, and particularly enjoys a game of tug. She would make a very good playmate indeed. She knows at least 4 commands, but doesn’t appear to have been taken for many walks by her last owners, so she is only just beginning to explore the big wide world and can sometimes seem a little bit timid and puppyish when discovering unusual sights and sounds for the first time. She is nevertheless a very positive, intrepid and inquisitive dog and is adjusting to everything very swiftly.
Obviously she is a big strong girl, so she will need owners who can give her lots of exercise and take her for frequent walks. She will also need plenty of opportunities to use her brain, because Rottweilers like to be up and doing things which they find interesting and absorbing. A bored and neglected Rottweiler with nothing to do is always an unhappy Rottweiler.
Lexi is an utterly wonderful and hugely lovable girl – big-hearted, sweet-natured and just as likely to cuddle you as you are to cuddle her. The household that adopts her will be a household to be envied.
2Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREToby – 5 year old male Cross-Breed
Toby (ref 24d) is an immensely likeable 5 year old black and brindle male cross-breed, believed to be a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner was no longer able to cope with dog ownership.

He is a very friendly dog indeed and would be perfect for amost any home which could provide him with plenty of love, play, walks and company. He would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 5+ and very kind to animals.
His last owners don’t appear to have spent much time on training him so he currently only knows 1 or 2 commands, but he is a very obliging and well-behaved dog all the same.

Toby seems to get on well with other dogs and even appears to be okay with cats. Like most terriers, though, he would be certain to chase after rabbits and other small furry animals, so he needs to live in a home where there aren’t any to chase.
He absolutely loves keeping company with human beings and enjoys being fussed, groomed and included in whatever’s going on. He adores playing, both with people and with toys, but is very obedient and will give up a toy immediately if he’s asked to.
Toby would be best off living in a household where there is generally someone around to keep him company, because he loves being with people very much and gets upset if left all on his own.
He truly is an absolutely cracking little dog who gets along happily with almost everyone and everything. All he asks for is love, play, warmth, care, company and walks. In return, expect him to be your very best friend in all the world – and you won’t be disappointed.
2Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREDuchess – 9 year old female Labrador Cross
Duchess (ref 90d) is a very shy, gentle and sweet-natured 9 year old smooth-coated female black Labrador cross. She is a very special dog who needs a rather special owner. She is a quiet, harmless and unassuming girl who needs to be adopted by a very loving and patient new owner who will allow her plenty of time to get used to living as a pet, which isn’t quite what she is used to.
Duchess formerly lived in a barn with a number of other dogs, so she isn’t yet familiar with playing the role of family companion and can seem a bit wary of humans on first acquaintance, no matter how friendly they may be - and yet she is such a very, very pleasant and gentle creature that she should make an absolutely charming companion once she has got used to living with people and learned to relax and interact.

She is rather baffled by many things which other dogs would take for granted and doesn’t at present know what playing is, but she enjoys being stroked once she has got to know the person who is stroking her. She has now made sense of the outside world and learned all about going for walks, but needs to do it very slowly and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed, especially by strangers. She finds the presence of a companion dog very calming when she goes for walks.
Duchess would be suitable for a calm, gentle and loving household where she would be allowed plenty of time to adjust to life and where her new owners have experience and understanding of dogs. Living with another friendly dog would suit her perfectly.
She will require plenty of exercise and to lose a certain amount of weight, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the best place for Duchess. She would need to live in a quiet household where any children were aged 15+ and very kind and sympathetic. Being grabbed at, pulled about or shouted at would frighten her very much, since she is a very quiet dog by nature.
She is used to living with dogs and finds their presence reassuring. She seems to ignore cats, possibly because she has never met any before. Could you offer shy Duchess the patient, loving, caring, dog-friendly home she needs to turn her into the relaxed and happy tail-wagging animal she’s supposed to be? Seeing out the rest of her life in a warm and welcoming home like that would be the perfect end to her story.
2Feb2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREArchie – 6 year old male Labrador Retriever
Archie (ref 204d) is a 6 year old absolutely delightful male chocolate Labrador Retriever. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre when a change in circumstances meant his last owners were no longer in a position to own a dog. Archie only has one eye, but that eye is so full of friendly personality and good humour that it’s instantly obvious what a very, very nice dog he is.
He loves being with people very much indeed and is always enormously pleased to make new friends. Like most dogs, he enjoys playing with people and with toys, bouncing about happily through sheer joy at being alive.
He knows at least 5 commands and is a very well-behaved dog when he goes out for a walk. He loves being fussed and groomed, but most of all he simply adores being with people. He is a very lovable and huggable dog.
Archie would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 10+ and very kind to animals. He appears to get along with other dogs, but being a dog he would be likely to chase after cats and certain to chase after rabbits.
He loves to be with people so very much that he gets upset if he’s left all on his own, so he needs to live in a home where there will usually be somebody around to keep him company. He will of course need plenty of regular walks, play and fresh-air fun to keep him fit and healthy. He would probably enjoy receiving a little more training and think it was tremendous fun.
Archie is absolutely irresistible and is one of the very nicest dogs to arrive here in the last 12 months. He is an absolute ray of sunshine and guaranteed to put a permanent smile on the faces of his new owners. All the staff and volunteers here love him to bits.
28Jan2009 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREMeasha – 2 1/2 year old female Cross-Breed
Beautiful Measha (ref 200d) is a very friendly 2½ years old tan and white female cross-breed. She was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because her elderly owner could no longer cope with owning a dog. Measha is a very playful, friendly and lively dog who is always ready for fun and is tremendously fond of the human race. She absolutely loves being stroked – and no matter how much you stroke her, she always wants more. She also loves being groomed, because she sees it as an intensive stroking session.
She knows at least 4 commands, possibly more, and could probably learn further commands. Extra training would also help her to bond closely with her new owner and help her to learn her place in her new home. Measha would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 7+, kind to animals and used to young, bouncy, enthusiastic dogs.
She would need to be the only pet in the home, because she doesn’t seem to enjoy the company of other dogs and because, like most dogs, she would be certain to chase after cats and other small furry animals.
Measha needs a home with active people who will see to it that she not only gets lots of regular walks and fresh-air exercise, but also gets played with as much as she needs to be. She adores playing, both with people and with toys, and especially enjoys games of tug.
Lovely friendly Measha is an absolutely superb young dog who will be your playmate, companion and very best friend for the rest of her life. Like Tigger in Winnie the Pooh, she is huge fun and unstoppably friendly. Can you offer this happy young creature the warm and loving home she needs?
