Fawn Girl

Thisr lovely fawn (with black mask) Japanese Akita was picked up as a stray in Barnsley yesterday morning, she has had pups in the last few weeks, the pound staff estimate her to be about 4 years old. She is tiny, her back came up to my knee but she is definitly full Akita. She has just come to the attention of the Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust, but desperately needs to find a new home before this weekend.

She seemed very scared and nervous, has lots of fur missing from her back legs and looks as though she has been kept chained up. Her claws are incredibly long, so she has either been a stray for a while or neglected - I think it’s probably the latter. Seems like a really sweet young girl, took a treat from me fine. She’d probaby be best suited to maybe an older couple / owner with her being smaller.

Brindle Boy

This Brindle male Japanese Akita aged approximately 2 years was picked up by the police as stray in Sheffield. He is not in the care of the Akita Welfare & Rescue Trust, but he has just come to our attention. He has a black head, and is white with brindle patches. He is underweight, but apparently eating well and is very food orientated!

arwt_brindleboy.JPG

Good personality, not overly nervous or timid - he was great with us considering he’d never seen us before. He was a bit wild when he first came in and for a couple of days but has calmed down loads since then. His eyes are a little runny, reckon this would clear up with a couple of days of eyedrops. He looks as though when put on a proper diet he will be a big boy!

Because he was picked up as a stray, we don’t know how he would get on in a household with children or small animals.

Wyatt

Poor Wyatt is just a baby Japanese Akita male aged about 8 months old. He has just come to the attention of the Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust. Although he is Ireland, transport will be arranged for him to be brought to the UK to the area of his new owners.

According to the pound staff, his owners have been identified but don’t seem bothered to collect him. He is a very cuddly boy who just wants to play and is grand with other dogs. He is only a youngster who really doesn’t deserve to be in the pound.

Sammi

Sammi is a male Japanese Akita aged between 1-1/2 years old who was picked up as a stray. No-one claimed him so he was due to be destroyed. We feel this boy should be called Lucky as he was saved by the Great Dane Adoption Society who had called in to save other dogs in the same plight. He was just one hour from death like 19 others that day.

arwt_sammy.JPG

Sammi is a lovely boy who is very friendly, he is not food aggressive, is running with a Great Dane female and has not shown any aggression to any other dogs. Not known how he is with cats or small children so would need a home with older children. He will go to his new home with all jabs, wormed, frontlined, micro-chipped and neutered. Could be just the boy you are looking for!

Chucky

Chucky is a 3 year old male Japanese Akita who was found as a stray and has been in kennels since Feb 2006.  He is a young-at-heart boy who loves to play and can become a little more boisterous than Lester, his best mate in the world (who is also looking for a new home - they would ideally like a home together).

He has a great nature, a home with children over the age of 16 and no cats or other dogs would suit this charming lovable boy.

Kai

Kai is a male Japanese Akita who is just 3 years old and in that short time he has been very neglected. He has been teased by the family children and because of this we would prefer to find him a home without children (although he has never hurt a child).

arwt_kai.JPG

He comes neutered, with all boosters, and micro-chipped. He gets on with other dogs and even plays with his fosterer’s own male. He is food-friendly.

Kai has a problem with his hock joints which he was born with, which has not been helped by the neglect he has suffered. This in no way effects his good temperament or indeed will shorten his life.

His fosterers find him to be a lovely boy who needs a caring home to make up for what he has been through. Are you that caring person?

George

George is a 4 year old male Japanese Akita. This lovely boy is a one-eyed male who lost his eye playing with a litter mate when a puppy. He is an entire male, up to date with all jabs, and has been wormed. He does not live with children but is used to having them around him.

arwt_george.JPG

He is good with food but will not give up his bone when he has one. He doesn’t play with toys but likes chewing plastic bottles. He can pull on lead if allowed, and is tolerant of other dogs but not used to cats. He is good when visitors call. He does need a secure garden as he is is very good at escaping.

Grace

Grace is a 2 year old red and white female Japanese Akita who is micro-chipped. She has been saved at the last minute from being destroyed by the pound as her seven days were up. Chino

Chino is a 4 year old female Japanese Akita who is up to date on all boosters etc. She lives with 2 children and a cat with no problems at all, even allowing the cat to eat from her food dish (though we do believe that she would need time to get used to any new cats).

arwt_chino.JPG

Her first owner could not afford to keep her so she found herslf in kennels, before she was adopted by the family who have her now. The family are due to re-locate and are devastated to find they will have to give her up because of this as they truly want to keep her.

Chino - like many Akitas - does not get along with other dogs although she loves the house cat. She will be coming into foster very soon as she is too sweet to be put into kennels. Her picture is not the best so we will be trying to get a better one of her soon.

Mia

Mia is a 6 year old female Japanese Akita who was bought by a couple who went to look for a puppy. When they saw her they bought her to free her from the misery she’d had all her life as a brood bitch for a puppy farmer who did not care about dogs - only the number of puppies they could get per year per bitch. Mia had come to the end of her breeding life so the breeder wished to get rid of her.

arwt_mia.JPG

She loves a cup of tea and toast and cucumber. Mia is good with children and adults, though she must go to a home with no other pets as she has not been used to other animals. She is now house trained thanks to the couple who saved her; sadly their landlord has told them she has to go, hence this why she is with us looking for a new home.
