Buster - 1-2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Meet Buster, a 1-2 year old, male Staffordshire Bull terrier Cross. Buster loves being around people and ideally needs owners who are around the majority of the time as he may not like being left alone for long. Buster is a very stressed individual who finds it hard to cope within the kennel environment.
Experienced owners are needed with knowledge or experience of Staffordshire Bull Terriers or similar bull breeds as he is typical of the breed and will need understanding. Although Buster is around 18 months he is still very puppy like and may take time to mature.
Unfortunately Buster cannot live with another dog, he will need further social work and good control off lead as Buster is like a bull in a china shop and some dogs will find him too much. Buster needs all training from scratch so cannot live with young children, teenagers would be considered that can help with this.

Connor is a 3 year old male neutered Terrier cross that came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in July 2007. An aloof individual that is fairly circumspect with his initial interactions, he does become interactive and affectionate once a bond is formed and does have a unique quirky personality.

A typical steadier older Terrier that prefers things done at his pace and would definitely thrive in a calm routine based environment. Connor was referred to the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate his status related behaviours, including issues surrounding high value resources.
Connor will need owners that have experience with high status male or female characters and sound knowledge of the maintenance required within the home. Ideally new owners will have owned Terrier types or Corgi types and have an understanding of their typical breed traits and idiosyncrasies. New owners will also have experience with resource possession (toys and food) and be confident in socializing Connor with carefully selected dogs.

Unfortunately Connor will need to be rehomed into an adult only environment with no visiting kids or grandkids. Older teens (15yrs+) could potentially be considered depending on experience. He will need to be rehomed into a quiet household due to his wary nature when meeting new people. This house should have an enclosed secure garden and be in a semi to rural environment.

Due to Connor’s interactions with other dogs, he will need to be rehomed as an only dog and cannot live with cats. Owners should be prepared to listen to advice and follow any ongoing behaviour programmes.

Danny is a brindle coloured 6-12 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who will be chipped before leaving the Home. Danny arrived at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in November 2007 and has spent some time with in the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate further his interactions with other dogs; his tendency to use his mouth to explore situations and his dislike for being restrained.

Danny is a confident, cheeky, inquisitive lad who will push the boundaries if he sees the opportunity to get away with it! He is not your average puppy and as he matures he has a high potential to develop some underlying status related issues. A smart lad, Danny will need a like-minded home that is prepared to actively exercise not only his mind, but his body as well.
He is generally confident and interactis with other dogs and does offer social play behaviour but quickly takes advantage of weaker or smaller dogs. New owners will need to have had experience in dealing with bolshy, pushy dogs before and be confident in socializing him with carefully selected dogs.
Danny is still very exploratory with his mouth and has learnt he can utilise his mouthing to get what he wants in certain situations, although this could be described as a juvenile comportment, behavioural exploration tends to suggest he has practised it extensively in his previous home. New owners will need to have experience with this type of behavioural issue and have successfully worked through it with their previous dogs. The whole family will need to be consistent in dealing with this issue or it could easily worsen.

Danny has been known to have tantrums over formal handling, which seems to be particularly triggered when he is restrained by his collar. Again, this behaviour is potentially something that Danny could out-grow but new owners will need to be able to demonstrate a good understanding of how to condition this behaviour.
Danny will need a home that is in a semi to rural location. This is so that his dog-to-dog interactions can be closely monitored and that there are fewer distractions about when new owners continue any training programmes. His new home could be either a house or a flat (experience and facilities depending) but will need to have a secure, enclosed garden.
Danny could potentially live with a mature, tolerant yet interactive female. This female will need to have no behavioural issues of her own. New owners will need to have owned dogs previously, preferably bull breeds but this is not essential. It is important that new owners have had dogs with a similar attitude before and having owned a dog with status related issues would be ideal (i.e. a dog that will pick up on peoples’/other dog’s weaknesses and then push the boundaries).
Owners need to be experienced in training previous dogs and be confident and competent in dealing with and interpreting dog-to-dog interactions and understanding dog body language. Having had a dog from a puppy would also desirable as they will realise how much extra work they can be!

Ozzy is a 1 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who came to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in June 2007. He is already neutered. He was referred to the Behaviour Unit so we could further investigate his general character and his behaviour around other dogs. He has heart-meltingly good looks, an endearing character and will make a wonderful pet for those willing to work on his training.

Potential owners will need to have previous experience of high status dogs, males or females and adult-only household would be preferable for Ozzy, although a household with mature teens will also be considered depending on their expectations.
Ozzy will need a house with a garden for training purposes within a semi-rural or rural environment to work on his focus. He is a very active dog so owners will need the exercise facilities to match his requirements
Future owners will initially need time to invest in his settling-in period, his routine and in building up a good relationship with him.

Ozzy responds very well to training and potential owners must be willing to follow an ongoing training programme. He could live with a confident female dog who is able to contend with his physicality.
New owners will need to follow an ongoing training programme and be prepared to listen to and take advice from the Behaviour Unit. He will need a level of consistency in his life, but any work put into his routine and training will be rewarded many times over.

Poor Simba is an 11 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who has now been at Battersea three times for no fault of his own. His last owners seperated and were unable to give him the attention he needs. He is a charming older man with a lovely affectionate nature and a winning smile - honest!
This sweet-heart of a dog just wants to be loved and is looking for a secure safe home that will be his last with owners who will give him time to settle in.
Simba can be vocal for attention at times — not so much loud barking as a constant ‘chatter’ so he will need owners who will be understanding and ignore this behaviour.
When Simba is in an office with people he settles down after a short while and is really good if they just ignore his ‘talking’ to them!

Smiley Simba could live with a nice female dog that will be happy sharing her home with a handsome older man. Simba can also live with older teenagers who will love him for who he is and not expect too much from him.
Can you offer this lovely lad a new home after 3 years waiting patiently?

Violet - 6 month old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Violet is a 6 month old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier, she is a sweet girl but she does have a sensitive side. She came in to us with an injury to her back leg and she had to have surgey so any new owner will need to speak with one of our vets before taking her home.

She is looking for owners that will give her time to settle in and all basic training will be needed as she is only a young girl and needs a secure home. Violet can live with teenagers that are calm and will be gentle with her due to her back leg. She is not able to live with another dog at this stage as her new owners will need to give her there attention. She will need a home with a garden.

Lula Belle is a 1-2 year old female German Shepherd, she is such a lovely girl. She is responsive and interactive, however, is quite a complex girl and does have a sensitive side and can be easily worried in new situations so therefore can only live with teens 15+ who are calm and experienced around dogs, especially large breeds.

At the same time though, Lula Belle has a strong personality that will show more once she is settled in a home.
She is to be the only dog in the household as she loves her people so much so can get a little jealous. Lula Belle is a fantastic girl who will be a brilliant pet in the right household.

8Apr2008 | Battersea Dogs and Cats Home | READ MOREBouncer - 10 month old male Border Collie
Bouncer is a 10 month old male Border Collie who was brought to Battersea as a stray, he was micro-chipped and our lost dogs and cats department located an owner but sadly they did not want him back. We have limited history on Bouncer but know he has already had a few homes, he needs experienced owners used to Collies or similar high energy working breeds to understand his needs and cope with breed traits.

Intelligent and trainable youngster who would enjoy and excel in doggy sports like agility, flyball or obedience, he is eager to learn and is a busy boy needing things to do. Bouncer needs most training from scratch, also it is unknown if he is house trained. Ideally he needs to live in a more rural location where he will have plenty of open space.
Bouncer is a loving, responsive and manipulitive boy, he is typical of the breed and loves to chase moving objects so owners will need to work hard on control and recall outside. Bouncer could live with other dogs, he enjoys winding them up if he can and may annoy weaker or elderly dogs.
Once settled and if kept mentally & physically stimulated Bouncer could be left for short periods, he gets bored quickly and is liable to find his own amusements! Ideally we are looking for an all adult household as Bouncer needs a calm approach, teenagers would be considered if experienced with dogs.
In Collie loving hands Bouncer will be a fantastic addition, If you feel you can offer him a new home please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443, apply online or email us on bow.rehomers@dogshome.org.

Ollie is a 6-12 month old Parson Russell Terrier male, he is a nice young lad he does have a cheeky but sweet nature. Ollie will also need to live in a semi rural location as he has a sensitive side to him and he would get easily distracted with the busy London lifestyle. He will need a home with no other dogs, he can live with a cat that is used to dogs and with teenagers that are sensible and lived with a dog before.
