Tizer – 3 year old male Cross-Breed

Tizer was born in our rescue 3 years ago. He is a large, mainly black crossbreed and his owner is devastated she had to give him up. She has put a lot of hard work into training him into the lovely dog he is now. He has lived with teenagers but is happy with younger children visiting. He has lived with an elderly cat (but did chase her in play!). He has a lovely nature.

Chelsea – 2-3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Chelsea the Staffie needs an understanding owner who can teach her that there is more to life than just 4 walls. She is very very interested and active so we think possibly an adult only home – preferably with bull breed experience. She needs to be an only pet as she does not like any other animals – but offer her your lap and she happily curls up on it.

Shay – 14 week old male Collie Cross

Shay is around 14 weeks old. He is a collie cross (we think Welsh Collie by the colour and markings and possibly Terrier). He is a blank canvas eager to learn, but puppies ARE hard work. Being a collie cross he needs constand mental stimulation – and will do throughout his life. Shay would be a great Agility dog. He is interested in toys so could probably take up flyball – we need to sort out his recall before we can try him. Part of the adoption contract will be for him to be neutered when he is old enough. His emergency foster carer has cats – he would watch them but not attempt to chase unless they ran in front of them. He is now in foster with a pack of dogs – he is learning that the small ones are not for playing with, and the bigger ones are teaching him manners.

Badger – 1-3 year old male Jack Russell Terrier

Badger is a long legged JR. Loves people, meets other dogs well but not keen on them. Definitely no cats! Badger has been treated for a limp, this has improved during his time in kennels. We will discuss the situation with anyone offering him a home.

Joe – 3-5 year old male Cross-Breed

Joe is a medium sized crossbreed. Lived with an elderly dog who taught him manners after he was rescued from the streets. Can be possessive over toys and food with another dog but a person can take anything off him. Would love to spend all day glued to your side. He has been around horses and cows and ignored them but being a typical dog will chase anything that runs. He can get anxious if left, and a relic of his wandering days is that he sometimes howls! His recall is good unless he gets distracted, but on the whole he stays close and keeps an eye on his humans. He used to live with a cat

Major – 3 year old male American Bulldog

A big, powerful American Bulldog (possibly a cross, opinions are divided). He came in with very few manners, now has learned some basics but is still very bouncy. He walks well on a Halti. He adores people of all shapes, sizes and ages. On a recent meet and greet a small child ran up to him and waved his hands in Major’s face! Major just loved the attention, so I think we can safely say he is child tested! Having said that small children could be knocked flying by his tail, so they need to be dog savvy! He needs a bull breed experienced home who knows how to bring out the best in him, he is an eager learner. He would need to be an only pet.

*Update 22/6/11*

We had a meeting tonight, small room, Major and a Belgian Shepherd dog also attended – no problems whatsoever. Both off lead (but being carefully monitored!) Major just wanted to play in the typical boistrous bull breed way, no signs of aggression whatsoever. Now this is a fairly submissive female but considering he would lunge at ANY dog when he first came in we are thrilled with the progress. We would still suggest he is an only dog, and we need to try him offlead in an area where there is room to play, and try him with males, however this stunning dog just gets better and better (and he gives lovely snogs too!!)

Amber – 5-7 year old female Belgian Shepherd

Amber is a Belgian shepherd aged between 5 and 7. She is very timid and dislikes loud voices and sudden movements. She has shown no signs of aggression despite having a badly infected cauliflower ear which she is receiving treatment for. She is a lovely natured girl who wants to please, she is here through no fault of her own and would thrive with an experienced soft spoken owner. She gets on well with the fosterer’s 2 teenage sons and has taken to his Mastiff and Rottweiler without any squabbles just lots of sniffing and sleeping. Amber has never had any toys and does not know how to play (yet) saying that she is still happy to be left for short periods of time and is not destructive.

Scamp – 7 year old male Labrador cross Lurcher

Scamp is a 7 year old lab cross lurcher. His elderly owner has been in hospital for some time and is unlikely to come out, so Scamp has been cared for by family and friends recently.

Scamp’s attitude to coming into kennels was Hi, pleased to meet you, can I lean on you for a cuddle, are you going to play with me. We are sure he will settle very quickly into a new home as if he has never been anywhere else!

Good with: Children, teenagers, other dogs, cats, other animals not good with: still trying to find something or someone he does not love!

He pulls a bit on lead at first but soon settles down (not had regular walks for a while), he knows basic commands, plays with toys, travels well, is housetrained….. oh, and don’t try imagining a 7 year old dog is going to be slow and plodding!
