Riley
Riley is a 4 year old medium sized brindle cross-breed who is an all-round good guy! He was given to us by another charity who took him in when his family could not keep him. Consequently we have no history on him, but he is a nice dog who travelled well (two hours from Wigtown)gets on with other dogs, is house-trained and biddable.

Riley is about the size of a small collie, or spaniel. He is very attractive with his wavy brindle coat and kind expression. He is good natured and has been an excellent “guest” so far, but we have no further history on him to relate.
20Nov2007 | Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre | READ MOREJoe
Joe is a gorgeous, 4 year old medically retired working Border Collie. He was an excellent working collie with a terrific bond with his owner. Unfortunately an accident a year ago resulted in him having an operation on a dislocated hip, which did not prove to be a success and Joe now sadly has to retire.

He is still fit and alert, and will need plenty of exercise and play to keep him happy – he would go stir crazy being a couch potato. However he could not possibly cope with the heavy workload he previously carried out.
Joe is quite small. He is very affectionate and biddable. He travels well, is good with other dogs, takes no notice of cats and loves children. However, he is on a steep learning curve having left the only lifestyle he has ever known, and his new owners will need to be patient and gentle. We are due to x-ray Joe’s hip to assess the degree of arthritis his injury has left him with and decide if further surgery is necessary.
We think Joe is a very special dog, and we want an especially nice home for him. An active family would be great, but he will need one main handler to bond with and recreate the relationship he had with the farmer whom he adored and who adored him too (enough to know it was better for him to be rehomed). A country home preferred, or a small, quiet village home. Joe would not adjust to life in a city or large town.

Butch is a very nervous 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier little boy who is out of his “comfort zone”. He lived with his sister, Pepi, and both their parents. None of them got adequate exercise or training, consequently they acted as a pack and “rioted”!

There was an incident when they all escaped and Butch was said to have nipped a child, although he had been good with the owners’ visiting grandchildren. We think he was over-stimulated and redirected at the child without any malice intended.
Butch is house-trained but he does still chew. Judging by the state of his nails and his weight, he had to find something to entertain himself. These dogs’ highlights came when they escaped and ran riot as a pack. Consequently we are looking to rehome them separately in a quiet household.
He is look for patience and confidence new owners with a secure garden.

Cilla is a 9 month old black female Labrador cross, she is a lovely lab cross puppy found straying in the Lochside area od Dumfries. She is a really lovely girl who has mixed well with all the dogs here.
She’s obviously house trained and has been great with everyone she’s met here. We really don’t understand why her owners haven’t been in touch!
20Nov2007 | Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre | READ MOREShona
Shona is a 9 year old female West Highland Terrier. Shona was a breeding bitch for 8 years before she was rehomed. The new owner had her for about a year before having to give her up due to ill health. Shona was recently rehomed from here but unfortunately caught and killed the family hamster so she’s back with us again…

Shona is a very cute Westie. Because she has been used to breed, she seems to have missed out on training – including being house trained, but her last owner said she was completely clean at night and just had the odd accident during the day – this should be solvable!
We were told that she’d not been socialised much, but she has been friendly to and mixed well with the dogs and people she’s met here. She’s getting to the age when children are an annoyance to her, so she’d be best in a home where children were not a feature and so we’re looking to rehome her into an adult only household which is small furry animal free!
27Sep2007 | Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre | READ MORENalla
Nalla a 17 month old black and tan German Shepherd female, she is a beautiful but highly strung young bitch. She has been with a family since a pup and has proved a bit of a handful. She is good with children and is fine travelling in the car.

Nalla has several “issues” due to poor early socialisation. She was nervous-aggressive on arrival but soon came round. She lunges and barks at people and other dogs on walks at times. She will therefore need a confident owner who has time and patience. She is fine with other dogs off lead now, and is making more friends (two and four-legged) every day.
Nalla has Hip dysplasia, confirmed by X-ray. She is not unsound at the moment, but has been started on a trial of Non-steroidal anti-infammatory pain releif, to see if her temperament issues are down to pain. She needs a very understanding adopter who is willing to give her a good life despite her handicaps.

Floss is an 11 year old Border Collie female who originally came to us in 2004 from a farm but was not a working dog. Her adopters unfotunately split up, Floss going with one of the partners, and this has been okay for 2 years. A job change recently has meant she has spent alot of time by herself, so reluctantly, Floss has been returned to us.

Floss is a loyal affectionate old lady but still with a fair spring in her step and still enjoys her long walks (on the lead as she has no recall whatsoever!). She travels well and is okay to be left. she is house-trained and is fine with cats. Floss isn’t keen on children so probably an adult home with someone around most of the time would be ideal for this old girl.
27Sep2007 | Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre | READ MOREElly
Elly is a 3 year old female Border Terrier cross, she is a delightful little Terrier mix. Elly’s owners took her to the vets to be put down, because she snapped at their grandchild (she didn’t actually make contact) – although they admitted the child had been tormenting her.

She does appear quite wary of children, but she is absolutely lovely with adults. The vets fortunately refused to put a healthy dog to sleep, and arranged for her to come to us instead. She is also fully house trained.
27Sep2007 | Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre | READ MOREDrifter
Drifter is a 1 1/2 year old male medium sized cross breed who was brought in as a stray. Drifter is quite a big dog – he certainly has some Lurcher, maybe some Labrador, and there is a hint of Staffie about his head. He is a very worried boy but he shows no aggression. He responds to quiet, gentle handling. He mixes well with other dogs.

Bramble
Bramble is a female Lurcher (probably a Saluki cross) who has fallen on hard times who was brought in as a stray or abandoned dog. She is very beautiful, with slanting almond eyes that look like she’s wearing eyeliner.
She is painfully thin, and has old scars on her legs. Bramble is gentle and loves to be stroked, like a cat. She is not enjoying the rough and tumble of kennel life, and we hope to get her into a foster home if she is not claimed by the end of her stray period (3rd Oct).
