Askit

Meet Askit, a 6 month old Labrador cross Jack Russell male who has had two homes already in the 6 months he’s been on the earth. He’s a playful puppy who can sometimes take things that step too far in his excitement. He nipped a child at his last home so was returned to us. His next home will be with adults only to be on the safe side.

Askit is a very cute little chap. He is fairly small right now but he should end up a medium sized dog. He is house trained and knows the basic commands but he does like to chase cats.

Thor

Thor is a 4 year old fawn male Lurcher, he is a very happy, friendly, biddable boy who was found straying in the Torthorwald area near Dumfries. He is a lovely handsome Lurcher who’s obviously been away from home a little while.

dcc_thor.jpg

He’s probably been a working dog given the number of scars he has, but he likes his home comforts – he’s quite fond of laying out on the chairs in reception – a bit like an Egyptian pharoah!

Kimba

Kimba is a female black and tan Doberman aged 8 years old, she is a big girl who would probably suit a rural home. She came into us in 2004 when her owners decided to move house. She was then rehomed for 3 years and has been returned as her new owners are finding her difficult to cope with.

dcc_kimba.jpg

Kimba is an older, bigger girl who is still full of life. Kimba would suit living in a single dog household and living in a rural environment. She has been known to bark at strangers, whine when left on her own and will bark at dogs going past the house.

She is house-trained and has mixed well with other dogs at the centre, but in her previous home she did lunge and bark at other dogs when out for a walk. She did not live with children in her previous home but before that she was well socialised with children and was great with them.

Kimba has spondylitis, and an old neck injury (probably due to a choke chain in her youth) so she MUST only be walked on a harness. That being said, she is still incredibly strong on the lead and can be difficult to control when she sees small dogs. She might be best going to a home where she can have the freedom of a very large garden rather than walks. She may also be incontinet periodically – but she is very affectionate and still enjoying life too much to contemplate euthanasia.

Lilly

Lilly is an 8 year old black and white female Labrador cross, she is a very lively old girl with strong protective streak! She was brought in as a stray. She came in with a white strip of paint on her side, which could mean she escaped whilst her owners were decorating. She is house-trained and good with children.

dcc_lilly.jpg

She is probably desperately missing her owners. She will guard her home and her owners against all threats, imaginary or real! She is absolutely horrendous in a car, so would be best rehomed either somewhere within walking distance of a vet, or with somoeone who doesn’t mind paying for housecalls!

Lilly will need an owner who doesn’t have an a steady stream of visitors, and who will appreciate her loyalty and devotion to them, seeing it as a benefit and not a burden.

Spike

Spike (formerly Newt) is a 9 month old black and white male small/medium sized cross-breed. Spike is a lovely, lively youngster, who was picked up as a stray or abandoned puppy at the beginning of the year.

dcc_spike.jpg

He was duly rehomed and has lived happily with his adoptive owners until they recently lost confidence after he chased a child up the street. He has been fine with the two young children in the household. Spike has grown into a handsome dog from the scrawny pup we took in earlier this year.

He is still very much a puppy in his ways. Unfortunatley he can jump medium fences, and it seems he has got into the habit of getting overexcited about bicycles and children flying past his garden. A couple of days before he was brought in he escaped and chased a child up the street. When a neighbour tried to intervene he was very aroused and snarled at her too. We do not know what his intentions were, but what we are seeing is a normal friendly dog.

He is looking for a home with someone home all day, no neighbouring children, a secure garden and someone reasonably dog-minded who can cope with a chasing instinct.

Snowy

Snowy is a female white Bichon Frise aged 7 years 10 months old, she is a lovely older Bichon Frise who has recently gone blind. Snowy has been with her present owners since she was a puppy.

Snowy

The best scenario from Snowy’s point of view would be that she remains in a home that she knows and is familiar with, however her owners both work full time and they are getting more and more anxious in leaving her “home alone”.

Snowy has had one or two bumps and falls since the onset of her condition and she also needs regular toilet breaks, all of which is proving emotionally too much for her current owners. Snowy is a lovely, very friendly dog who despite her recent blindness she still loves going out for walks.

She has always been great with strangers and other dogs and is fine around cats. She is used to being professionally groomed once a month.

Her present owners (and ourselves) feel that Snowy would be happiest and settle quicker in a home where there will always be someone around. If you would like to give Snowy a home or need further information please call either Janice on 07776 301087 or Lee on 07990 866934.

Sacha

Sacha is a 1 year old female Terrier cross Collie who is a cheerful chewer! Sacha’s young owners just could not cope when their first baby arrived, while Sacha herself is still a baby too!

Sacha

Sacha is a medium sized dog who is a mischievous, playful and loving nature. She is still very much at the chewing stage, and would probably benefit from Crate training. We believe we have already homed three of her siblings, and they have proved to be quite a challenge in this respect, so please do not enquire about her if you are terribly houseproud.

Sacha travels exceptionally well, and would happily be a driver’s companion! She barks at other dogs on the lead but is fine off. She has been great with the children she has met here, and loves to pop balloons!

Precious

Precious is a 15 month old female Lurcher cross Golden Retriever who is a very needy girl. Precious’ owner got her as a puppy. She has been a little spoilt and over-dependant on her female owner – hence she has separation anxiety.

Precious

Precious is a big girl. Her father was a Golden Retriever and her mother a Lurcher. She is EXTREMELY destructive when left, all centred about the doorway that the owner left via. She will also howl when left. She is young enough to be taught how to be left successfully but this will require a kind but unsentimental approach from her new owner.

She is looking for someone at home all day, preferably a new home with other dog/s, an ultra-secure garden. She is also looking for plenty of patience and new owners will need determination!

Polly

Polly is a 7 month old Lurcher cross female, she is a gorgeous, playful, boisterous puppy. Polly was found straying in the Annan area. Polly is probably a Labrador cross Lucher.

Polly

She is still only a puppy and will still have a bit of growing to do. She is very playful with people and other dogs and would benefit from an active household to keep her stimulated. Although she is very boisterous we think she would probably be very good around children.

Petrushka

Petrushka is a female German Shepherd, she is a great dog with a good report. Petrushka was obtained via another rescue at two years old. We are awaiting some feedback regarding her early history. However more recently her owner was moving house and left the dog with her married son whose wife does not like dogs.

Petrushka

Petrushka is a little on the tubby side since she was spayed four years ago. She had had a litter previously. She is great with children even toddlers, and loves to play with other dogs. She hates cats with a vengeance. She travels well, and does not like to be left alone indoors (she will pee as a protest even though she is normally clean).
