Sherlock – 18 month old male Lurcher

Sherlock is a very special boy indeed. Just about 18 months old, Sherlock is living in a busy foster home with children, cats, hens et al. and is coping with great aplomb! He is a happy boy, which given his start in life is nothing short of a miracle! We really don’t know the full story of course and no one is going to own up, but he has suffered some trauma, maybe a RTA, that has left him blind in one eye and with an unusual gait. None of this bothers Sherlock who is quite happy with his lot. He has been on fundraisers to meet his public too and thoroughly enjoyed himself!

If you feel you can offer this lad a chance to develop his character further, we would love to hear from you!

Sherlock is being fostered in Cheshire and has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Amber – 3 year old female Whippet Cross

Amber is a lovely sensitive girl. Not too big, probably Whippet cross and somewhere around 3 yrs old. Amber has had a horrible past, she came into rescue in Ireland with pups and was near skeletal, covered in abrasions that the treating vet believed to be burns . Further vet checks whilst she was spayed revealed a tooth that had been smashed and had impacted on her gum and a jaw that had been broken, so draw your own conclusions.

Amazingly as so often, these dogs shame us, as she is a remarkably bright, happy girl. She adores human company including her fosterers granddaughter, loves other dogs and is just starting to play with toys. She loves routine and enjoys her walks!

Whilst we know her to be lovely with children we feel Amber would prefer visiting children rather than 24/7 children and she deserves to be the focus of someones life too! We feel she would be happier with another dog for company possibly. She is an absolute poppet who is a big hit with everyone who meets her.

Amber is being fostered in Cheshire and has been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Ardal – 18 month old male Greyhound

Ardal has been through such a long journey we thought he deserved a new thread of his own now as he has come on so tremendously! He really does deserve his forever home now and has been waiting far too long.

Initially Ardal came out of an Irish dog pound in a very poor state of health and very frightened but he has really put all that behind him now and come on in leaps and bounds.

Ardal is appox 18 months old and is a very loyal, devoted and stunningly handsome boy, one of the nicest hounds you could ever wish to meet.

Now being fostered in the Cheshire region his foster Mum cannot speak highly enough of Ardal with whom he has become very close. If ever there were a dog who thrives on fuss from humans and loves canine companionship within the home then it is Ardal.

Ardal has such love and enthusiasm to please his owner that he forms a very loyal bond with them. Equally he loves playtime with other dog/s within the home and would love the companionship of another canine play friend or two.

He is an intelligent, sensitive boy and will need a quiet but stimulating home – it is for this reason that whilst Ardal is extremely kind and gentle with his foster carers 4yr Granddaughter we do feel that Ardal would be best suited to an adult only, cat free home.

Ardal can happily be left for a reasonable amount of time in the house and travels well in the car. He has been on quite a few fundraising events with Erin Hounds now and just loves all the human fuss and attention! He has improved significantly with meeting other dogs now. He loves to play with his toys and is a very happy and well in himself, much more of a happy, waggy tailed boy.

Ardal MUST be fed on Burns – it has proven to be the only thing that has worked for a settled tummy, over and above other branded goods, raw and homecooked. He has been neutered/microchipped/vaccinated and at a great point to move onto the next stage of his life – his forever home :-*. He still needs someone with some dog experience and someone who is calm and understanding as Ardal thrives on being given confidence from his handler. In return for understanding and the ability to make occasional allowances with him, you will get a completely loyal and devoted companion

If you would like to discuss offering Ardal a forever home, or a Foster home with a view to adoption then please do get in touch – someone is really missing out on such a faithful and loving boy!

*October Update*

Handsome, loyal and loving Ardal is still looking for his forever home. Please consider Ardal if you are looking to adopt a hound, he is so ready for his new home and both he and any future home are missing out on so much together.

*January Update*

What Ardal’s foster Mum has to say about him -
Ardal has been with me since April, he has been on a tremendous journey, had to overcome all sorts of difficulties. His past life was full of cruelty and neglect. Now he physically the handsome, shiny coated dog you see in his last pictures.

Ardal has also come on emotionally. I think when we foster we do not always see how far dogs do evolve – but the marker or one of them for me was when my new little ‘tinkerbell’ Amber had an early breakfast of 14 dentasticks (large ones) and I came in to find Ardal contentedly on his bed ignoring the fact there was a packet nearby he could tuck into, and knowing he shouldn’t have them. He got two dentisticks from me for his willpower. I was very proud of him at that moment.

Its only a little story about Ardal I have many – but I love him very much, he is perhaps one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever had to work with and also the most loyal
one too.

Dee – 4 year old female Greyhound

Dee is a phenomenally happy 4 year old Greyhound girl! She is very friendly, bold, confident and and FUN! She is excellent in her home environment – clean, not destructive at all, has no food or toy aggression issues and plays happily in her foster home with her toys. Dee is also a great traveler when out and about!

She is boisterous and playful, so probably best suited to a home with a larger tolerant dog with similar love of ‘living life to the full’, or as an only dog. She is very keen and still short on manners so ideally Dee needs someone with experience of handling larger dogs and ideally benefit from on going manners training to stimulate her. It is unlikely in that in the near future she could responsibly be off lead in public areas, so will need a reasonable sized secure garden for play time.

Due to her size and fun character, she will not be homed with children younger than teens. If you feel you can offer this striking girl with her fancy socks the opportunity to become a well rounded member of canine society, please do get in touch. She is fully vaccinated, chipped and neutered. Currently being fostered in the Cheshire area.

*September Update*

Now that Dee has had longer to settle and be assessed by her foster Mum, this is what she has to say about her -

Dee has progressed very well in the time she has been in foster care -

- Dee is fine with any breed of large dogs when out and about, she is very confident and self assurred

- She is quiet at night and is used to going into her own crate as she is crate trained now

- She loves playing football and will retrieve balls etc

- She has a lovely new coat coming through now, making her even more beautiful

- She doesn’t counter surf and isn’t overly greedy

- Travels well in the car

- She is not afraid of anything like TV, washng machine, loud noises, crowds etc and has adapted very well to these already!

Dee will need a Sighthound savvy home who is used to the breed and knows what to expect, with some areas needing work on.

Dee’s idea Sighthound savvy home would be -

- Someone with no furries including small dogs, young children or squeaky toys

- Somewhere with a big secure garden as she is pretty agile and very energetic

- Someone who can read body language as she is still learning that she is allowed and can go to the toilet on her walks, that she doesn’t have to wait until she is back

- She will need to be walked on a harness, although she walks very well if she see’s a small furry or low flying furry she will pull half choking herself, so for her own safety for her neck a harness is the best alternative for Dee

- Will need to be left in her crate for any short periods when she is left as she doesn’t understand yet that everything left out is not a toy

- Needs her own space whilst she sleeps

Dee can live alongside another dog but it will depend on their character as Dee can be quite full on. She is currently living with another gentle male greyhound in her foster home and they get on fine.

If you would like to discuss Dee further please do get in touch, all she needs is that chance with a Greyhound savvy home and she will make someone very happy indeed.

* An update from her fosterer*

I took Dee to a charity dog show today and she was fine with all breeds and sizes of dogs. She went in the best rescue class and just lay down ( with a boxer on one side and a rescued English bull terrier on the other side). She perked up when she heard squeaky toys and had a slight grump at a black lab who was trying to wash her face. Overall, I was very pleased with her.

*October Update*

Dee is continuing to mature and show her personality. She loves her football and is a great fun dog, radiates joy, sleeps well at night, loves life, travels well, confident in unfamiliar situations and wants to sample everything life has to offer, fit, intelligent, she isn’t a terribly big greyhound either and in the right home is going to settle easily. She is such a great girl and someone is going to have the dog of a lifetime with her.

*Update February 2011*

My ideal home…………….

Thanks to my fosterer, who has shown me how to behave in a house, the time has come for me to up sticks to a home of my own and make way for other pupils.

My dream home would have a biggish garden with no cats or young children to distract me from my games. Having studied hard at racing school, I am keen to chase small furry things but now enjoy using my athleticism to chase balls or run laps. I am confident and polite to other dogs when out walking and don’t pull (unless a squirrel waves to me!). I like encouraging other dogs to join in games in the garden but some are a bit less interested than I am. If I was to share, it would be with one who would put up with me, although I don’t take offence if told to simmer down! I would be happy to share my life with just a human, as long as they had a sense of humour (and could throw or kick a ball!). Having realised how precious the gift of life is to a greyhound, I believe in joyfully making the most of what life has to offer. I enjoy wombling on my walks and so far have brought home a discarded hat, a pair of socks, 2 potatoes and a banana skin. This is only the beginning and I hope to find some booty with a reward attached for my lucky new owner. I am left for up to 5 hours at a time so I can enjoy peace (and more room on the sofa) which suits me just fine and I love a good night’s sleep. I wouldn’t mind a bungalow because, although upstairs has good views, I have to be carried down because I think descending stairs is scary. My fosterer has learnt how I communicate when I want to play, toilet, be left to sleep or chew a bone and can tell you how to read me so that you don’t have to learn this from scratch when I move in. Saving the best till last……… there are no estate agents involved!

Dee believes in keeping Britain tidy. This morning , on her walk, she gleefully collected up a foil pie tray and the cardboard core of a toilet roll, accidentally dropped by refuse collectors. Her fosterer tried to look encouraging knowing that last October, a greyhound called Angel discovered a collection of stolen antique violin bows worth £100,000 with a reward attached, while being taken for a walk in a park in Ipswich.

Ring Sue on 01928 714558 to arrange a mutual viewing. love from Dee xxx

Bailey – 10-12 month old male Lucher

Bailey is a 10-12 month old male Lucher and the paragon of a family Lucher Pup. He is a complete cutie pie! He is a kind, gentle, very friendly and happy boy who is good with other dogs, adores children and is kind and gentle even with the youngest child (with correct supervision of course).

Bailey is an absolute star and would make such an excellent, loyal, loving and fun family dog. He is also good on the lead and loves to play with his foster Friend Ardal. Bailey is such an uncomplicated boy, we cannot emphasise enough how lovely Bailey is and how he now deserves the very best of homes.

Although Bailey has no issues whatsoever he can initially be shy and we feel he has evidently been hit in the past. Why? we can only guess but feel it may be due to any normal puppy behaviour of chewing as all pups have a tendancy to do this when they are teething. So for this reason please only contact us to enquire about Bailey if your not precious about things as this poor boy has been through enough and deserves the best of homes now. He will give so much back, someone is going to be extremely lucky to adopt such a balanced and loving boy.
He will be neutered shortly and will then be ready for his forever home.
Bailey is currently with his Fosterers in the Cheshire area.

Bella – 8 year old female Lurcher

Bella is a 8 year old female Lurcher who has earned herself many nicknames since being with her fosterers – all them however are accompanied with a chuckle.

But let’s start at the beginning…

Bella was picked up out of a ditch in a Dublin suburb, plastered in mud and dirt and very, very low. Her good Samaritan took her to a nearby vets. It was evident that she had had puppies only a matter of two or three days earlier. No sign of the puppies who were far too young to survive without her so we would guess they are ‘no more’.

Bella is no spring chicken in years, but be under no illusion that she shows her age! She is a HUGE character, loves life, loves to be busy and ADORES Keith, one of her fosterers, she is only small (by what we are used to!) and we think she is around eight years. She is excellent in the house, in the car and hasn’t put a paw wrong. She would be the most adoring companion.

She is a little strong on the lead so probably best suited either to a male owner or someone looking to downsize from big dogs. Bella also does a good line in jumping so a secure garden and not close to a busy road is an important consideration, she does however only jump out when Keith has left her and goes looking for him. If someone needs a dog to love and to be loved back and wants enjoyment at every turn then Bella is your lady.

*Time for an update on little Bella who is still waiting for her forever home*

Bella has really settled into her foster home now and is as bright as a button, happy and full of zest and a great character. Her foster Mum says – ‘Bella is a real character and would follow you ’till the end of the earth’, she is so loyal, and as she walks, her rump and tail are going in tandem with her tail up in the air like a pole from a dodgem car! She loves playing with a ball and will retrieve’.

This is a pic of her recently at the beach (as you can see she loves playing ball)

Whilst Bella is absolutely fine with children she does select and prefer the company of adults. For this reason we do think she would be best suited to either an adult only home or one which has much older children who won’t demand much from her.

Someone is really missing out on such a lovely and eager to please girl, she is a delight to have in your life, full of spark and joy. Could you be that forever home? if you think you are please do get in touch.

She is vaccinated and will be spayed. Please don’t overlook this lass as she has so much to give. For more information or to discuss offering Bella a home please contact – Sue Coldock 01928 714558 or Victoria Lyon (Ireland) 00353 9496 59276

Gentleman Jack – 3 year old male Greyhound

Please meet Gentleman Jack who is kind, calm, placid and stoic Greyhound boy who is 3 years old. Gentleman Jack is a very happy, waggy tailed chap, confident but not in your face, very well mannered and sociable. Nothing upsets or rattles him and he takes everything in his stride. He would make an excellent first dog or first sighthound – a real ambassador for his breed.

Jack finished racing because of a ligament injury. Although this is fine now and Jack is very able for walks etc, he doesn’t need too active a lifestyle these days. He is neutered, vaccinated and living in a foster home with other male greyhounds and just gets on with everyone. A joy to have in your life who will repay you many times over for putting your faith in him.

For more information or to discuss offering gentleman Jack a home please contact – Sue Coldock 01928 714558 or Victoria Lyon (Ireland) 00353 9496 59276

Valencia – 1 year old female Lurcher

Valencia or Lexi as she is now known is an extremely calm and placid fawn 1 year old Lurcher girl. Lexi is now in a foster home in Cheshire and doing extremely well. We were not sure if she had been in a home before, but it is looking like she may have been.

Lexi will benefit from a calm home where she can be given the time and chance to blossom. She needs to be shown how rewarding the relationship between owner and hound can be, then she will blossom as she comes out of her shell discovering what a great bond she can have with her owner – fun, love and a secure home. Ideally we would like Lexi to be in a home with another dog for company. She is excellent with other dogs but is too interested in small fluffies to be considered with cats.

Although Lexi looks very Greyhound, she is a lurcher and there is a smattering of another breed in her, however she isn’t quite as big as a Greyhound, but more petite.

She is good on the lead and an excellent traveler but can be a little insecure when in surroundings she is new too, this will soon change with time and confidence. Lexi if fit and well and looking for her forever home now. She is fully vaccinated and is due to be spayed this week.

For more information or to discuss offering Lexi a home please contact the rescue directly.

Rowan – 18 month old female Lurcher

Please meet Rowan who is a happy and confident fawn Lurcher girl who is only 18 months old. Rowan would make a great family pet . She has character by the bucket loads, loves people and life and being in the thick of it!

She was involved in a road accident before coming into Erin’s care, so has a slightly misshapen hind leg, but it has been seen and assessed by a vet and causes her no problems. Rowan is good with other dogs but not with cats or small furries.

As with all greyhounds/lurchers who have only known kennels housetraining will be needed during the initial stages of settling in. Rowan is currently at kennels in the Cheshire area, is fully vaccinated and will be spayed prior to homing.

For more information or to discuss offering Rowan please get in touch with the rescue directly.
