Hayden – 4-5 year old male Lurcher
Hayden is a 4/5 year lurcher who is suitable to live with others dogs and children but not with cats or small furries. Hayden came into the rescue after being found as a stray with a badly damaged elbow, unfortunately our vet couldn’t save his leg so it had to be amputated. Hayden’s surgery site is almost healed now, there is just one small scab to fall off. He is doing well and is now up to two 20 minute walks a day, which he gets very excited about. We started recall training on Sunday, and bless this boy, once he realised there were treats to be had it was difficult to get him to leave my side, so with a bit of bribery and time we think he will be able to go off lead on a regular basis.

Hayden is a very affectionate boy who would love a home with someone who can give him lots of attention and treats.
Hayden is house trained and sleeps through the night quietly in his crate, although he will have a bit of a whine when you first leave him he soon quietens down. Hayden is a gentle boy who we think would live happily as an only dog or as part of a quieter pack, however, he would not be suitable for a home with cats or small furries as despite his disability he still thinks it would be worth giving chase. He won’t need any special care once his surgery site is fully healed but would be better off in a home with mostly carpeted floors to prevent him from slipping about too much, he would also need a bowl stand as he finds it difficult to balance if he has to eat from the floor.
Bruce – 3 year old male Lurcher
Bruce is a 3 year broken coated male that is happy to live with other dogs and older children. Bruce has settled well into his foster home & is now fully house trained as long as you keep an eye on the clock and keep him in his routine. He understands ‘sit’ & ‘wait’ and we are continuing to work on the other basic commands, which are still a little hit & miss. Bruce is not food driven but is beginning to take an interest in treats.
Once Bruce gets to know you he is a very affectionate, confident & loving boy, though he can still be a little nervous when meeting new people. He is also a little hand-shy at times. Bruce is often startled by sudden loud noises & so would be ideally suited to a quieter household, maybe with older children.
Bruce enjoys his walks & generally walks well on a short lead, however his concentration can lapse at the sight of small furries. As yet he has not been let off the long lead when out for walks as his recall still needs a lot of work & can be a little unsure of dogs he does not know especially boys but seems better with females.

After his morning walk Bruce is happy to curl up on the sofa for a long sleep & at this time is more than happy to be left for a few hours.
Bruce is really enjoying his new ‘work’ at his foster Mum’s residential home & enjoys the company of the 15 ladies & 1 gentleman that live there, often choosing to be with them in the lounge or in the conservatory curled up on the sofa, rather than in the office with his foster Mum. He also learnt from the resident dog that lying under the grand piano on Christmas Day was a great place to be, relaxing & yet listening in on what was going on, without being in the middle of all the comings & goings.

Trudy is a 12/18 month old broken coated lurcher that is suitable to live with other dogs and older children but not with cats. Trudy is a liveley, energetic, young dog, who enjoys running in the fields and garden, playing with tennis balls and other dogs she meets. She is food motivated and so training with small treats has been quite easy, she can do a good sit, come and paw. Her appetite is good and she will eat anything that we give her. She sleeps well and is quite happy to go in a crate if we have to go out. She has been left for 3 hours and was not upset at all, she did have her toys with her though! She is toilet trained and will whine at the door if she needs to go out. We think Trudy would suit an active family, with older children, who enjoy outdoor activities like jogging, cycling or walking and who would take time to take her to agility classes and improve on her training.

Gypsie – 9 1/2 year old female Greyhound
This quiet and gentle older Greyhound lady is called Gypsie, she is about 9 1/2 years young and stands about 23/24 inches to the shoulder she has come to us because of a family illness. She is very bewildered as to why her life has been turned upside down, being moved to a strange place and is finding the other dogs in her foster home a lot to take in at the moment.
We would love Gypsie to spend as little time in foster care as possible, and be allowed to spend her golden years settled and happy. She would suit a active retired person and she enjoys a good sniff round the garden as well as her daily walks.

Gypsie has no health problems and is fit and well, she travels well and is excellent on the lead. She is finding meeting the inquisitive dogs in a new environment stressful and although she has lived with a small dog in her old home she is less defensive and worried with quieter calmer dogs. Gypsie would love to sit by your side and share afternoon tea with you, so if you would like a lady-like companion please give Pip or Linda a call.
31Aug2011 | Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue | READ MOREJack – 5 year old male Bedlington Terrier Cross
Jack is a 5 year old beddlington cross he is suitable to live with other dogs but not children cats or small furries. He has been in his foster home several weeks now and after a settling in period Jack is doing really well. When he came in we realise that he had led a very restrictive and sheltered life but now he is really living life to the full. He loves to be the centre of attention as this is what he has been used to and so may be best as a only dog but he does like the company of other dogs as long as he can be the top dog, when greeting new doggy friends he can be very enthusiastic and does need reminding that not every one is always so pleased to see him, he loves to play chase with other dogs and can get quite noisy and full on when playing so will need doggy friends that will tolerate this and keep up with him.

When Jack arrived in the rescue he had a severely matted coat that require a bit of a drastic hair cut but now his coat is growing back and he is enjoying being brushed, we think he has learnt to enjoying being brushed so he doesn’t have to go through the humiliation of being shaved bold again.

Jack is a very friendly boy who loves to meet new people when he is out and about and when at home he will happily sit by your feet or if invited take his place on your lap, he can be a real cuddle monster. Jack has been having some training while he has been with us and has learnt to Sit give paw and down he is learning to walk nicely on the lead but we have learnt that he has no recall so is not suitable to go of the lead.
Although Jack is a very cute looking boy that could win prizes for his hang dog expression, that would make even the hardest heart crumble you will need to remember that he needs strong boundaries to make sure he remembers his place in his new home. Jack is used to being left for up to 6 hours in the week so would be suitable if you needed to go out to work, as long as he has had a good walk, he is also very quite around the house and doesn’t even bark when some one comes to the door.
