Teddy – 16 week old male Alaskan Malamute

Teddy is a 16 week old Alaskan Malamute. He came into the rescue as he was bought as a gift for the owners daughter, they decided though that they could not give Teddy the attention he needed due to the working hours. Teddy is a very loving young boy who is already housetrained. He was quite nervous at first around the other dogs but he has quickly adapted and is in foster with two other dogs and four cats who he is fine with.

William – 7 year old male Greyhound

William is a 7 year old Greyhound boy who came to us as a stray, and therefore we have no history on him. He is a very timid dog and we feel sure that he has been badly abused in the past. He has steadily gained confidence since being with us and has blossomed into an affectionate and extremely loyal boy. He can still be timid at times, however he knows he is safe with us and is able to trust all the staff. We would like an adult only, quiet, gentle and calm home for William.

Somebody with an understanding of nervous, rescue dogs would be beneficial. William will make somebody the most loving and loyal companion. He has such a lovely nature once you gain his trust. He has the makings of a very faithful friend. If you think you could offer William a loving home please contact Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool on 0151 931 1604.

Richard – 12 year old male Lurcher

Richard is a 12 year old Lurcher who was a stray that was never claimed. He was a bit of a mess when he came to us, skin and bone with cuts on him and a sore leg. He soon put on weight and developed into a fine gentleman! If you love laid back lurchers the Richard is the one for you! He loves his couch and would laze around sleeping all day if you let him! He does love his walks though, but like most lurchers he needs to be kept on the lead as he likes to keep an eye out for small animals!

http://www.imagepuppy.com/resized/d6f543996aeb9f333d13673c045b7874.JPG

Richard has had a hard life and is very deserving of retiring into a loving home. Richard needs to be the only pet in the home. He is an old man now at 12 years old so if you think he could spend the rest of his days with you then please contact Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool on 0151 931 1604.

Teal – 6 year old female Lurcher

Teal is a 6 year old Lurcher. Teal has recently been returned to the rescue after being in a home for 3 years. He isn’t very good with other dogs and his family found this too difficult. He is a lovely dog who gives lots of smiles. He really is a great dog who should fit in to most homes without any other pets. Teal has been returned to us from his home as he is so difficult with other dogs. He has always been walked on the lead but when other dogs run up to him he is difficult to control. Teal’s family are devastated that they have had to part with him.

Teal now lives in the staffroom which he absolutely loves. Teal loves nothing more than to lie on his back with his legs pointing up in the air just relaxing. Teal is good to walk if there are no other dogs around but as already said he is very bad with other dogs.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/af8442b72927a0c1dc1e18c105c08ae9.JPG

Teal is a very rehomeable dog as he is so laid back and relaxed in the house. His problems occur when he is out on walks but if he were walked at quiet times in a sensible manner there is no reason that Teal could not make a new family a wonderful companion.

Olga – 12 year old female Lurcher

Olga is a 12 year old Lurcher girl. Olga is a lovely lurcher who was admitted to Freshfields in 2007. Olga is a lovely natured dog, she is very affectionate once she gets to know and trust you. Olga has a number of long term volunteers who take her on long walks which she really enjoys. Olga could not live with children. Although she is a nice dog she can still be nervous in certain situations and may bite if she feels threatened.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/c00ca49a3b0fa2e74fd3d9a677d2d310.JPG

Care would have to be taken while walking Olga as she is not good with other dogs out on a walk, but she is a very nice dog to walk on the lead in quiet places. Olga would suit a quiet home with no children. She enjoys her walks but also loves a nice quiet comfortable place to curl up and have a sleep.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/189d69732499100585e874154eaf204f.JPG

Olga came into the rescue with another lurcher who was successfully rehomed in 2009 and is doing very well in his new home, we know that Olga can be rehomed and she would make a really nice companion for someone. We are looking for a local home for Olga as getting to know her will take a few visits to the centre.

Maddy – 6 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Maddy is a 6 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. Maddy was brought to our front door and left with us as the child in the family was allergic to her. Maddy now lives in our office as kennel life proved too stressful for her. The office is nice and quiet with less hustle and bustle to disturb Maddy. She is very affectionate and loves to curl up next to you given half a chance. Maddy is very clean and always waits till she is walked to go to the toilet.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/a5f50ec570f70be3722537cd0edc615f.JPG

Maddy can get quite stressed, she doesn’t like other dogs and she hates cats! On a walk she can occasionally take her frustrations out by biting sticks and trees, however this is not very often. Maddy is a lovely dog but she doesn’t like seeing the vet (what dog does!) Staff can advise how to deal with this situation.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/2eb32fbb1da4905133f1be200cc414e5.JPG

Overall Maddy is a great dog, typically staffy type, she loves people. Maddy needs an adult only home with no other pets. She would like a kind, calm owner who will let her snuggle up on the couch! She really will make a great friend if given the chance!

Cooper – 3 year old male Labrador Cross

Cooper is a 3 year old Labrador cross. We found Cooper tied up to our car park gates with a note saying his owner was disabled and couldn’t walk him. He is very frustrated by kennel life. He is a young, energetic dog who demands a lot of attention but hasn’t been socialised with other dogs so therefore isn’t very good with them. He is still young, so with the right socialisation training he could overcome this problem. Unfortunately as he isn’t good with other dogs, the kennel environment isn’t ideal.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/13c8cd0d30b5d7c8c930e23c48221595.JPG

The noise and commotion upsets him and causes him stress. We are trying to keep him as calm as possible and take steps to cause him as little stress as possible. Cooper has great potential. Away from the rescue we feel he will thrive and make a lovely companion friend. He is a lively, bouncy boy so we feel it is appropriate to ask for an adult only home. He is very intelligent and will do anything for food.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/5afe90712f6ae2d373907acbdb56609f.JPG

Overall, Cooper is a fantastic dog who will make a great friend. As explained Cooper isn’t good with other dogs, although we feel with the right socialisation programme this may improve. He is quite stressed so a calm, gentle home would be necessary. His new owner should be part of a quiet, adult only home and and have previous experience of dogs. They need to be patient and committed, the ability to keep him calm and relaxed will help him settle down. We are looking for a local home for Cooper as potential owners will need to come to the centre and meet him over a period of a couple of weeks as he takes time to get to know people.

Buster – 12 month old male Mastiff Cross

Buster is a 12 month old Mastiff cross. He came to the rescue as his original owner was threatening to put him to sleep as they no longer wanted him! Buster is a big strong lad, who is affectionate, and loves a fuss being made of him given half a chance. Buster doesn’t like other dogs. We are looking for an experienced large dog owner due to his strength and size. We would also prefer an adult only home as he has never been around children.

http://images.dogsblog.com/resized/bc401614a88208df94969369d1394413.JPG

Buster needs an owner who is home most of the time as he is still very young. If you feel you could offer Buster a loving home please contact Freshfields Animal Rescue.
