Luna – 2 year old male Akita

Introducing Luna, a pretty and young girl looking for a new home due to a change in her owner’s circumstances. She is friendly towards people that she meets and can be left alone in the house for a couple of hours, although she can be destructive if she is bored. She is house and crate trained. Luna is currently pulls on the lead and her new owner will need to spend a little time working with her on this, this should be easily rectified with patience and training. Luna can be food possessive towards other dogs but she is fine with her food around people. She is happy and eager to please, and knows a few commands.

Luna currently lives with Diesel, FOA Reference 472 and it is preferred that she is rehomed with him, if you feel that you only have the space for one Akita and are interested in Luna please still get in touch.

Luna has lived with children so could be placed in a home with older dog aware children, although she lives happily with Diesel she isn’t friendly towards other dogs. Luna cannot be rehomed where there are cats.

If you think you could offer this lovely girl a new home, please get in touch.

Diesel – 1 year old male Akita

Introducing Diesel, a gorgeous young boy looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. He is very friendly and confident, although a little boisterous but that is normal for a dog of this age. He is very eager to please and knows a few commands. He is already neutered. He can be left for a couple of hours in the home but can be destructive if he gets bored. He loves to play with teddy bears and carries them around with him for a while but he will eventually destroy them.

Diesel does pull on the lead and will need some training in this area, with patience this should be easily rectified. Diesel has always lived with children and could be rehomed again to a family with dog aware children. He is currently living with Luna, FOA reference 473 and it is the owners preference that the pair are rehomed together but if you don’t have room in your home for a pair but are interested in Diesel we would still love to hear from you. Although Diesel gets on great with Luna he is not friendly to other dogs. He cannot be rehomed with cats.

Ziggy – 7 month old male Akita

Ziggy is a gorgeous young boy who came into our care after not having the best start in life. Ziggy was found as a stray had zero trust in humans, on arrival in our foster home it was apparant that Ziggy had been mistreated.

After just a few weeks and with patience from his foster family and guidance from his Akita foster brother and sister, Ziggy is now a happy boy like any young pup should be. Now he knows all humans aren’t bad, he associates an outstretched hand with a treat or a good old chin rub! He will now welcome any person into the house with a waggy rail and will actively seek out a fuss and a cuddle, a far cry from the behaviour displayed when he first arrived in our care.

Ziggy is dog friendly and could live with a female companion, he is happy to share his toys and food with his doggy friends. He can be a little rough in his play with other dogs but it is not aggressive. He cannot be rehomed with a cat as he will chase, homes with dog aware children will be considered. He will need a firm but loving hand to guide him as he matures so that the hard work of his foster carers is continued and he grows into a well balanced adult.

If you are interested in giving a loving forever home to Ziggy, please get in touch.

Ziggy is currently in the West Midlands and is 7 months old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Murdoch – 18 months old male Akita

Meet Murdoch, a handsome male Akita that has come into our care after finding himself unclaimed in the council pound. Murdoch is now safe in FOA kenneling and is proving himself to be a wonderful boy. He is a complete fusspot and will wriggle around at the slightest touch. He met our assessor at the pound with a waggly tail and a pawing at the bars of his kennel, desperate to have a cuddle, he even let her take a thorn out of his paw! He is small for a male Akita and he has the most beautiful tail and head.

Murdoch is strong on the lead but responds well to correction and he has shown no signs of being possessive over toys or food. He has not been directly dog tested as yet but initial indications show that he could potentially live with a female companion. He has not as yet been tested with cats. As Murdoch is a stray and we do not know anything about his past history, we will not place him in a home with young children.

If you are interested in adopting this fabulous lad, please get in touch!

Murdock is currently in Leicestershire and is 18 months old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Bracken – 3 year old male Akita

Introducing Bracken, a handsome male looking for a new home. Bracken is very relaxed and loving within the home, and he adores chewing on plastic bottles when he is given them. He likes to have a Kong toy, and has no food or toy guarding issues. Bracken was rehomed by Friends of Akitas in 2009 but is looking for a new home again as unfortunately he has issues with other dogs due to a lack of socialisation when he was young. He is actually scared of other dogs and needs someone with the experience and patience to help him over his fear.

Bracken will need someone who is around for a good proportion of the day as he does suffer from seperation anxiety and can become distressed when left alone for periods of time, his new owner will need to be willing to work with him on this. He is also scared of small spaces due to being locked away in his first home, therefore he cannot be put in a small room, crate or kennels.

We are looking for a new home for Bracken with someone who has experience of Akitas or other similar large breeds. Bracken cannot be rehomed where there is a dog in residence due to his fear but he is currently living happily with a cat and could do so again in a new home. Bracken is too boisterous to be rehomed with young children but a home with older dog aware children will be considered.

If you think you could be the one to offer this special boy his perfect home, or you would like to know more about him, please contact us.

Bracken is currently in Bedfordshire and is 3 years old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Kiyoshi – 6 month old male Akita

Introducing Kiyoshi, a young male looking for a new home and a new start. He is a very friendly and cuddly boy who loves to lean in for a fuss, in typical Akita style. As he is a youngster he is a bouncy lad so will need owners that are able to spend time training him as he matures to ensure he becomes a well balanced adult.

Kiyoshi isn’t a fan of being left on his own in the home so he will need an owner that will be prepared to work on this insecurity with him and show him that it is ok to be alone, this will be achieved with patience and training. He is partly house trained so again this will need more work in his new home. He is crate trained and knows some basic obedience commands. He is curious about other dogs so could live with a female pending successful introductions. He does not get on with the cats in his current home, so he will be requiring a home with no cats or small furries. Kiyoshi hasn’t lived with children to date but he would be considered for a home with dog aware children.

If you think you could offer this gorgeous boy a new home, please get in touch!

Kiyoshi is currently in Nottinghamshire and is 6 months old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Cormick – 2 year old male Akita

Introducing Cormick, a handsome boy looking for a new home after finding himself in the pound. He seemed very eager to please, and knows some commands already. He does pull a bit on the lead initially, but responded well to our assessor’s correction so we think this should be easy to correct with a little training. He was initially wary of our assessor, but relaxed when out of his kennel, and enjoyed playing with a toy and interacting with her. He has shown no signs of toy or food guarding.

Cormick will need an owner who is experienced with larger breeds. He has not been tested with other dogs or cats as yet. If you think you could offer this lovely chap the new start he needs, please get in touch.

Cormick is currently in Leicestershire and is 2 years old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Diva – 2 year old female Akita

Diva is a beautiful girl and has just arrived into our care after serving her time as a stray in the pound and sadly she wasn’t claimed. Diva is friendly and inquisitive and our aasessor found she loved to have a fuss, and is very relaxed. She has shown no signs of toy or food guarding, and walks well on the lead.

Diva was curious but non aggressive with other dogs at the pound so we feel that she would be suited to live with a male companion, however now she is in an FOA foster home this will be tested further.

Diva is currently in County Durham and is 2 years old, if you are interested in her please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .

Nanook – 2 year old male Akita

Meet Nanook, a stunning boy who is being rehomed due to a change in his current owners working patterns. Nanook is a friendly and loyal Akita and his current owners feel that he deserves to be in a home where he isn’t left alone so much. He is a well mannered, gentle and responsive boy who was happy to demonstrate his sit, paw and lie down at assessment. He takes treats gently and has no protection issues at all around food and his toys. He enjoys a fuss and is happy to roll over on to his back for a tummy tickle.

Nanook is a confident boy and when out and about walking he is interested in everything that is happening around him, he is lead trained and walked well for our assessor with very little pulling, he is responsive when corrected. Although until recently Nanook has lived with another dog, he can be selective about his canine companions so the decision to rehome him with a female companion would be based on the success at introduction stage. Nanook has never had experience of living with children so we will not place him in a home with young children. He is not cat friendly.

Is this laid back boy the one that you are looking for? If you think so, please get in touch.

Nanook is currently in Lancashire and is 2 years old, if you are interested in him please contact Julie – 07738638091 – julie@friendsofakitas.co.uk or Nicola – 07786433545 –nicola@friendsofakitas.co.uk .
