Abby

Abby is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross aged around 3 years old. She was handed into rescue after her owners bred her three times to make profit on the pups and then got rid of her. She has had 19 puppies to date!

ffar_abby1.JPG

When Abby arrived in rescue she was heavily lactating because her puppies had been taken away from her too early. She developed the starts of Mastitus because she was so full of milk, but after a course of antibiotics she was fine and is due for spaying next week.

ffar_abby2.JPG

She will also be micro-chipped and start her vaccinations now that she is well enough. Abby is great with other dogs, excellent with cats and has lived with young children with no problems. Unfortunately Abby does not like to be left for long periods of time and although we are working on this further training to build her confidence will be needed.

On first sight Abby will bark at strangers, but it is nothing to worry about because she doesn’t mean anything by it and once she gets to know you she is very loving and affectionate.

Butch - 3 year old male American Bulldog

Meet Butch, a 3 year old male American Bulldog. Butch was due to be put to sleep, but after a rushed and urgent transport request we managed to get him over to Surrey and into Furry Friends Animal Rescue where he is now safe and not in any danger of being put to sleep.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Butch’s past is sketchy. I know that he has spent the first 18 months of his life in a dog crate. He is a huge dog and this was probably due to a puppy bouncy nature. During this time he was physically abused by a male and because of this he is suspicious of men. He is a complete softy with women though!

ffar_butch1.JPG

Butch was rescued by a lady who started his rehab, but even though she tried desperately to get him into a rescue she kept getting turned away because everywhere is full. An appeal went out to try and save him and just 24 hours before he was due to be put to sleep I agreed to take him.

He travelled down to us from Northampton due to some kind volunteers and now the work starts. This is Butch when he arrived. He was muzzled because the transporter was a man, so it was just or safety’s sake. The reason I’ve included this picture is not to give the wrong impression of Butch, but to give potential owners the chance to see how he looks with his muzzle on. Here he is in his full glory…

ffar_butch2.JPG

Butch has to be walked onlead with a muzzle on, so I am looking for someone who has a large garden to exercise him in so that he has a bit of free run. The reason for his muzzle is because of his nature with other dogs and he does not like cats. He has been used to this for the last year and stands patiently and lets you put the muzzle on him with no fuss or bother.

Although Butch is suspicious of men, this only lasts until he gets to know that the person isn’t going to hurt him. He gave my work colleague a very sly look when he first met him, but after two minutes of an ear rub he was playing fetch the green, muddy toy and rolling about on his back like a puppy! He is a bit stubborn, but that is typical of the breed.

Butch is going in to be castrated, microchipped and first vaccinated tomorrow and new photographs and a video of this lovely boy playing will follow so that everyone can see what a fantastic dog he is really!

Any potential adopter will have a full homecheck and will need to be able to travel to Surrey to meet him. Butch cannot be homed with children and must go as an only dog. He needs an owner who will put everything into his retraining (which will be started now but will need to be continued) and someone who is confident with big, strong dogs.

Ellie

Ellie is a female Dobermann cross Rottweiler aged approximately 10 months old. She is a very sweet natured girl, but has obviously lived outside as her house-training needs some fine tuning! She is best as an only dog as he gets jealous if another dog is getting attention. She would be suitable to live with older teenage children and an experienced owner. She would be best suited in a home with no cats.

Coco

Meet Coco, he is an older Collie cross male aged approximately 1 year old - this little fella is a very lucky boy! First he was found wandering as a stray and after 7 days found himsef on death row. He was pulled out of the dog pound on his 8th day and found a temperary foster home with a family for a couple of weeks.

ffar_coco.JPG

I was told about him and agreed to take him as soon as my two foster dogs went to their new homes (who were due to go last saturday). Both dogs trotted off to their new lives and the plan was that Coco would arrive on Saturday afternoon.
I then got a frantic phonecall from the transporter saying that she had called the foster carer to arrange collecting the dog and she was told that he had leapt the fence the day before and run off and hadn’t been seen again.

When the local dog was contacted it turned out that he had been there for about a week already and was nearly back on death row as he had nearly reached his 7th day! Needless to say, Coco was then collected again from the dog pound and bought here, safe at last!

Coco, we think has a bit of Collie and a bit of Spaniel in him, plus other breeds that we are still guessing at. He is a lovable and extremely affectionate dog and is good with other dogs, fab with cats and small caged animals and has lived briefly with children with no issues. He has made no attempt at escaping here even before he was castrated.

The foster carer did have low fencing though. Coco will need a home with minimum 6 foot fencing all the way around the garden. Coco does have one problem though. He has slight guarding problems, but we are getting through them. He has almost got there with food as you can see here…

ffar_coco2.JPG

We are now working on toy possession, but I must stress that this isn’t severe and is just a glitch on his character! I am training him by allowing him a tennis ball to play with and keeping hold of a spare one. When he returns the first ball, then he can focus on the other tennis ball and eventually he gets bored of this game.

This is a great training technique because it is slowly teaching him that there is no need to guard. It doesn’t work with all possessive dogs, but does for a dog with only slight toy possession like Coco. Because of his little problem I will only be homing Coco with teenage children or an adult household (visiting kids are fine with supervision). Coco has been first vaxed, castrated and micro-chipped.

Dolchi

Dolchi is a male brindle Terrier cross aged 10 weeks old. He came into the rescue with his sister (also featured on DogsBlog.com), but we are urgently looking to be rehomed seperately. He is good with people and suitable to live with a cat, but growls at other dogs so would be best as the only dog in the home.

Tommy

Tommy is a 5-7 year old Jack Russell cross male - he really is a stunning little chap! He was picked up as a stray in another borough and after completing his 7 days he was put on the euthanasia list. A request was made to a rescue contact of mine to take him and she then bought him to me.

ffar_tommy.JPG

He is castrated and had his first vaccination plus is micro-chipped. He is very sociable with other dogs and good with cats and children.

Ella

Ella is a Collie cross female aged around 10 months or so, she is a cheeky monkey! She came into my rescue after being picked up as a stray and never claimed. She had been with another rescue for a couple of weeks, but nobody showed an interest and so we agreed to take her in here and see if a different area may help.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

She loves her toys and although she came in here as fussy, has demolished every scrap of food she could find since landing on the doorstep, so I am not worried about her appetite. She is good with cats but not so great with small caged animals.

ffar_ella.JPG

She lives with other dogs fine although can be a bit food possessive (not with people though). Ella adores children and would live with young kids fine. She will need a secure fenced in garden to play in and someone who can cope with a bouncy dog.

She is not out of control or anything, but gets a bit over excited being that she is only a puppy. Ella would make a superb agility/flyball/obedience dog. Ella is fully vaccinated, spayed, micro-chipped, wormed and de-flead.

If you feel you can offer her a home please contact us.

Conker

Conker is a 9 year old Collie cross Labrador who has had a very bad life. He was rescued from Ireland after being handed into a vets as a stray who was never claimed. It is very obvious that Conker has had an extremely abusive life and because of this he has fears about certain situations.

ffar_conker.JPG

Conker is a very misunderstood dog and currently lives at my rescue in Surrey along with 6 other dogs, 7 cats and many smaller caged animals. Other animals are not the issue with Conker. He is very good with them. Unfortunately because of his previous home he can get very scared of people and if he feels threatened can lunge at people.

He does this if anyone looms over him. The majority of the time he is a good boy and a happy chap, but because he has cataracts he can get confused and 9 years of severe abuse is hard to shift. He is sensitive to having his belly and back touched (we have worked out that this is where he was probably beaten and kicked) but I am working on that using soft utensils to help his rehabilitation such as feather dusters and long handled soft paint rollers(!). It sounds terrible but he really is a lovable dog underneath his scared exterior.

Conker needs an experienced Collie owner who is confident about handling dogs. Due to his troubled past and the treatment he has suffered, we’re looking to rehome him into an adult only household and for vet trips I tend to muzzle him (this will be provided with him) although he hasn’t shown any vets any aggression for vacciations or when they were doing his pre-med for castration.

Conker would suit an older couple who have lots of time on their hands and who are willing to let him come round in his own time and also someone who understands how long it can take to let a dog come round who has known terrible handling and cruelty from a human.

He has been in my rescue for about a month now and has shown just one incident when he warned a family member off because he felt threatened. Conker is fully vaccinated, microchipped and castrated. A homecheck will be required. He is living in Old Coulsdon, Surrey at the moment.
