Doris – 10 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Doris is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier looking for a loving retirement home. She was found with a younger male (he is now reserved) tethered to a post so were obviously dumped. Judging by their injuries it seems that they had some sort of drag injury. It has been suggested that they have been dragged by a car for a short distance recently and then tethered and left to their fate. Their injuries luckily were superficial, although they have been left with a few scars.
Doris is an older lady of about 10 years old. Although she has suffered abuse in the past, it has not changed her lovely nature with people and she is a very people orientated dog. It is thought, by her reaction to children that she has lived with them before, but we would like to find a home for her with kids at least over 10 years old.
Doris is very sociable and likes to play with other dogs out and about, more so since Chuck came here and she stayed with her foster carer and she was allowed more freedom (he overshadowed her a lot.) She could live with another sociable neutered male dog.
Doris cannot be homed with cats. Doris had some fatty lumps which were removed on arrival to rescue. We also checked that she was spayed whilst she was having the lumps removed and she had been.
Doris has been fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped, plus wormed and defleaed.
Doris is being fostered in New Cross, South London.
A homecheck will be carried out and an adoption fee of £150 per dog does apply.
7Nov2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREBanjo – 4 year old male Parson Russell Terrier
Banjo is a 4 year old Parsons Jack Russell who was bought into rescue when his owner became very ill and could not cope with looking after a dog. He is great with other dogs and will live happily with a castrated male or a spayed female. He is house clean and very quiet in the home so could be left for short periods of time without fear of coming home to a wrecked house! He is an affectionate dog but not needy and is happy sitting out of the way if things are a bit busy. Unfortunately Banjo cannot live with cats and can be stubborn when out so he would need to be kept onlead when being walked. He is selectively deaf at times!
Banjo would need a very secure garden as he likes to chase foxes so a fence height of six foot high with no holes anywhere is essential. Banjo could live with children over 10 years old. Banjo is castrated, fully vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and defleaed.
A homecheck will be carried out and a minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
2Nov2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MORERuby – 1 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Jack Russell Terrier
The lovely Ruby, who is approximately a year old, arrived into rescue earlier this week. She had been picked up as a stray a few days before and the owner had phoned in the same day. The release fee they had to pay was £11. They refused and so she went straight onto death row.
Ruby is what is known as a ‘typical rescue dog’. She is average looking and the sort of dog that is cloned 10 times over in any large rescue centre. Dogs like Ruby are often overlooked for prettier dogs and although I think she is beautiful, she is not the sort of dog that people really notice when faced with a rescue full of dogs all pleading for a good home.
Ruby is a very good house dog, but intially she is excited and a bit bouncy. This can put people off, but this excitement only lasts for the first day. When she calms down then she makes a good and obedient companion. She is good with most dogs but does not like dominant females. On arrival here she snarked at some of the dogs (but nothing more) and all her body language showed that she was worried. This was correctly read as introduced to one at a time, then she settled with them all and once she knew they were not a threat then she was happy and relaxed enough to walk and play with any one of them.
Eventually she did settle down with an older Staffie boy we have here at the moment (Chuck) and they love to lay curled up in bed together. She does need to go and live with another neutered male dog as she loves company of the canine kind.
Ruby is currently being walked onlead as her recall is not that great. We hope to work on this as she progresses in rescue and would expect the new owner to do the same.
Ruby can be homed with children over 10 – any younger and she may knock them over in play. Ruby cannot be homed with cats.
Ruby has been vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, wormed and defleaed.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
2Nov2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREChuck – 7 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Chuck is a wonderful Staffordshire Bull Terrier of approximately 7 years old who is looking for a loving retirement home. It has to be said that in the 13 years of the rescue being open he has got to be in the top three of the most affectionate and loving dogs that have ever come in.
Chuck was found tethered to a post so was obviously dumped. Judging by his injuries it seems that he had some sort of drag injury. It has been suggested that he had been dragged by a car for a short distance recently and then tethered and left to his fate. When they were picked up Chuck had old burn injuries on him which looked like cigerette burns. His injuries luckily were superficial, although he has been left with a few scars.
Although he has suffered abuse in the past, it has not changed his lovely nature with people and he has stayed very people orientated. Chuck does not have an ounce of aggression in him with people and he seems drawn to children. We would be happy to home him with children over 10 years old. This is only because younger children are louder and he needs a home that he can just chill out and relax in.
Chuck is fairly well behaved with other dogs and once he knows they are not a threat he will walk happily with them. Whilst he was in foster care there was a bit of a scuffle between Chuck and another entire male dog (not started by Chuck!) which means that although he ignores dogs who ignore him, he can be defensive if another dog worries him. We therefore recommend that Chuck is walked onlead so that the owner has full control of the situation. Chuck is happy with this idea – as long as he has his handler with him he is very happy no matter where they are or what they are doing!
Chuck needs to be homed as an only dog and cannot live with cats and he would ideally like an experienced SBT owner.
Chuck has been fully vaccinated, castrated, microchipped, wormed and Mange/flea treated.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
Louie – 3 year old mlae Shih Tzu
This is Louie. He is a 3 year old male Shihtzu. Louie was an owner handover on a piece of rope, no collar and lead, let alone a bed or toys. He was a very bad case of matting. He had full on dreadlocks which were soaked in urine underneath him which were clogging up his back end so that he couldn’t go to the toilet properly. He seemed rather pleased he can get to wash himself againonce clipped out and actually had eyes to see! He smelt like a walking rubbish dump after living outside in a muddy dirty area. They had him from a baby (puppy farm) but he was very easily handed over. The man of the house didn’t like him and would push him around, encouraging him to snap. This has left him with issues when he feels threatened so an experienced owner is necessary.
Louie can live with some dogs very well, but any bouncy dogs he tends to try and dominate. He would be fine living as an only dog. Although he has lived with children he cannot be homed with them due to his previous owners treatment of him. Because of this he must be homed to an adult only household who will be understanding towards his needs.
Louie cannot live with cats. The new owner must get Louie clipped out every 2 to 3 months. He is not a great fan of being groomed so an understanding groomer is also necessary!
Louie is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, wormed and defleaed.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
12Oct2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREPercival Pea – 14 week old male Greyhound cross Saluki
This little mite is just 14 weeks old and was the last puppy left out of a litter who could not be sold. In fact he could not be given away after many attempts of Free-ad sites, advertising round the neighbourhood, trying to give them away on the street and finally begging people to take him.
Percival Pea arrived into rescue as an emergency. He was born in June 2011 and throughout his whole life so far all he has known is a garden with no shelter. He was born in the open, raised in the open, left in the rain and the hot sun throughout the whole Summer. His mum managed to raise the whole litter even though she was in a worse state than him.
All this puppy has known is misery. A lifetime of itching over his entire body with no way of relieving it. This is because since a young age he has had Mange which was left untreated by his owner (who claimed that he and his litter mates had scratched himself on things in the garden and the gullible people buying the litter believed him). He has scratched himself raw and over his shoulders he has gaping wounds where he has physically torn himself open trying to relieve the pain.
On arrival he was treated for the Mange with Advocate which is a veterinary supplied product (always in stock here.) His burning skin (caused by an all over skin infection caused by untreated Mange) was treated with a course of antibiotics. He had a very bloated belly caused by a heavy burden of worms (he has never been wormed) and he had a Milbemax treatment for that (vet product once again). Through all of this misery he has kept an amazing nature! He is confident around the other dogs and has been introduced to the cats with just a glance and then no interest. He has no interest in small caged animals. He could be homed with children over the age of 10 years old.
Percival Pea will be castrated, first vaccinated and microchipped before he leaves rescue.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 will apply.
27Sep2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREEd – 3-5 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Labrador
Ed is yet another dog that has only ever known abuse and fear. He has kept his wonderful Staffie nature and is completely non-aggressive with people or other dogs. But this has not stopped someone from beating him so ferociously that he developed a complete terror of people. And after traumatising him to that point he was then dumped on a motorway. Possibly the sound of the cars being so loud is what saved his life because he spent a long five months living on a motorway embankment evading capture.
Finally after an extremely determined person, he was captured and offered safety where he was worked on and has started to realise that not all people are monsters. He is now being moved here where he will stay as long as necessary and will never know another harsh day. How does Ed show his fear? By curling into the tightest ball possible to make himself look as tiny as possible. He freezes in fear and whoever owned him before used a lead on him, but not for walkies. His fear of the lead and his reaction shows that someone has beaten him with a lead. Some vicious and spiteful human is responsible for this shell of a dog.
He will need an extremely secure garden. We will not be homing him with children, but will be looking for a home for him with a friendly and confident canine pal to play with. He has been castrated, fully vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated and the new owner will need to have determination and experience with previously abused animals.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 will apply.
27Sep2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MORERingo – 3 year old male Border Collie
Ringo is a 3 year old Border Collie recently been returned to rescue because he reacted to the 9 year old childs velcro strap being undone on his trainer by barking and they felt he may attack the child. When he arrived back here I made a point of trying to desensitise him to velcro straps and he had no reaction.
Ringo has the same fears as many dogs – he doesn’t like fireworks or thunder. He does love children, other dogs and has no reaction to cats or small animals. He is obedient, loyal and fairly calm considering his age. He doesn’t like being left for long periods of time and may howl, but if he is ignored then he stops pretty quickly.
Ringo is clean in the home and is not destructive. Due to the reason he was returned to rescue we will not be homing Ringo with children under 10 years old. Ringo would make a good agility, flyball or similar dog. He is young, bright and keen to learn. He can live with other dogs and loves to explore the woods and fields and has good recall. He is neutered and microchipped and his jabs will be bought up to date before he leaves rescue.
A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
20Sep2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREPoppet – 12-13 year old female Corgi Cross
Poppet is a 12-13 year old Corgi cross. She has come to us from Ireland where she wa…s found as a stray. Poppet is an elderly girl who is excellent with other dogs, cats and has no reaction to small animals. She needs a quiet home so any resident dogs would have to be calm as she needs a relaxing retirement home.
Poppet has very poor eyesight and has the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes She also gets confused easily. She cannot live with children as if she is woken up or wakes up suddenly she snaps at the air as she forgets where she is. If you calmly talk to her she is fine when she realises who you are.
Although elderly, she loves her walks and exercises well with other dogs. She sleeps a lot due to her age and just needs somewhere where she can relax in her golden years.
Poppet has been spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and defleaed.
A homecheck will be carried out and donation to the rescue applies.
19Sep2011 | Furry Friends Animal Rescue Surrey | READ MOREGracie – 9 year old female Corgi cross Jack Russell Terrier
Gracie is a 9 year old Corgi cross Jack Russell who needs a home. She was found as a stray in Ireland. Gracie is very affectionate and loves attention. She is good with cats and walks well with other dogs, but needs a home without very young dogs as she doesn’t get on with them. She would happily live with an older dog. She could live with children over 10 years old. She has recently had a a dental and one tooth removed.
Gracie is a very quiet dog who has obviously not been treated well in the past. She gets scared if you stand over her or ask her to walk through a door and cowers on the floor. Gracie needs an understanding home with someone who can help her build her confidence.
A homecheck will be carried out. She has been vaccinated and microchipped – we are not entirely sure if she has been spayed, but has got what seems like a spay scar. Due to her age we do not want to put her through unnecessary surgery. If she comes into season she will need to be returned to us to be spayed.
