Ruby – 3-5 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Ruby is a very affectionate Staffordshire bull terrier who is gentle and affectionate with people and children and also dog friendly. Ruby would make a superb companion for another dog or equally do well as a single dog. She will play if another dog wants to or she will leave them respectfully alone if they prefer. Ruby’s favourite playmates are a large, bouncy German Shepherd neutered male and a small, grumpy neutered male terrrier who thinks Ruby is wonderful! Ruby has also lived with a female Shihtzu and a neutered Staffordshire bull terrier male.

Ruby originally came from a dog pound in Kent, through no fault of her own. What is known of Ruby’s background is that she must have been a much loved pet as someone has written “I Love U Ruby” on her collar. Ruby is also gentle & affectionate towards children. She has a soft mouth and is careful not to mouth and also doen’t play tuggy games. She would be good around responsible children from 7 years of age upwards.
Ruby loves to be cuddled and to be close to you and she will settle quietly in your company. She accompanies her fosterer to work and is very well behaved in the office. She also travels well. She is very trainable as she loves her food! Ruby can be left for short periods of time and will occupy herself by chewing bones. We are looking for a home without cats as Ruby will chase them.
Ruby is usually very good on the lead. However, she will pull when a squirrel or cat is in sight but this can be easily dealt with by using a harness on Ruby.
Ruby is fully vaccinated, flea treated and wormed and micro-chipped. Ruby will be spayed by Goodward Dog Rescue as part of the adoption contract mid November (as we need to wait 3 months after her season which she has now finished). Ruby has obviously been loved so much in her past as she is very trusting, well-balanced and confident and is such a happy little love-machine.
Ruby is currently in a foster home in Worthng, West Sussex.
Please contact us at Goodward Dog Rescue, Tel: 01903 248544 or email goodwarddogrescue@yahoo.co.uk if you would like more information about Ruby or wish to apply to adopt her.
Friendly home visit and donation applies.
18Oct2011 | Goodward Dog Rescue West Sussex | READ MORESkip – 2 year old male Lakeland Terrier Cross
Skip is a 2 year old male Lakeland Terrier Cross. He is an extremely loving dog who thrives on attention and being stroked. He is very gentle and will lay his head on your shoulder for as long as you will allow him to or he will very gently place his paws on your legs for attention.
Skip also loves his exercise. He can run like the wind and enjoys running in wide circles around you in the countryside. His recall is good and he will come back to you when called with a hop and skip, hence his name. Skip would like at least an hour’s off lead exercise twice daily and he enjoys long, country walks without a problem..
Although Skip loves children, we are looking for a home without young children as Skip is a terrier and gets over-excited and has a tendency to mouth. He gets frightened if anybody holds his collar at the back of his neck so this must be understood and avoided. Skip can be slightly stubborn, true to his terrier nature and will roll over on his belly sometimes instead of going to his bed when asked, so you will need to be gentle, firm and fair with him. He is very clever and trainable especially as he likes to please, get affection and loves treats,

The best match for Skip would be a calm, loving environment possibly as the only pet or with a laid-back dog, where he can have lots of attention and be involved in somebody’s everyday life. He is good with other dogs but can be quite bouncy when over-excited as he jumps up at them to play. Skip seems uninterested in cats.
If you are looking for a small / medium sized dog that is extremely loving and tactile and enjoys a close, active life-style and if you have a calm house-hold without young children then Skip would be an ideal match for you. Skip is neutered and vaccinated and in a foster home in Worthing, West Sussex

Leo is approximately 12 week olds and is a tri-coloured collie cross German Shepherd and will probably be border collie size when fully grown but smaller than a German Shepherd. He is fully vaccinated, wormed and deflead. He is clean through the night when crated and asks to go out during the day to the toilet. He is a little character as he sticks up for himself with much bigger dogs and will bark at people passing his foster mum’s gate. As is he clever he will excel at training which he will need to stop the habit of barking at other dogs.
Leo is also a caring and gentle puppy and seems concerned if anybody or other animal seems hurt and will investiagate and try and lick whoever he thinks needs him. He will also greet you with a waggy tail and licks you a lot and then go off to explore. Leo tends to steal socks and underwear but he will give them back. Leo also loves to carry things like sticks around in his mouth and is starting to bring balls back although he prefers to carry them around.
We are very impressed with his temperament and think Leo will suit a calm, active home with a set routine and lots of exercise. We feel he is likely to be a one-person dog. Leo loves companionship so will need to be with his main carer most of the day otherwise he will cry when left. Although he loves strokes and being cuddled he is not a lap dog but he does like to be very close to you and be part of your routine. He is also not a demanding dog and settles well in the home and will be an excellent companion for some lucky person.

He loves the dogs he lives with who have been quite tolerant with him up to a point although he will bounce on other dogs even if they tell him off and will try to cuddle up to them. Leo will need to be either an only dog or supervised with a tolerant adult dog that we can be sure will accept his playful advances. He is very playful and gentle with cats.
Our rehoming policy is, that as well as a friendly home visit and a follow up visit, we require the following please:
Homes in the Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire area who is at home most of the day with a secure garden. The dog will need to go to training classes and an active home with sensible children 8 years plus. No heavy smokers please and Leo must be neutered when he has reached full maturity.
Leo is currently in a foster home in Worthing, West Sussex.
11Jun2010 | Goodward Dog Rescue West Sussex | READ MOREGinger – 7 year old female Jack Russell Terrier
Ginger is a very friendly, active 7 year old, wired-haired Jack Russell Terrier female who loves people and who gets on well with cats and other dogs. Ginger is a real lap dog and loves nothing more than to curl up on your lap or on your feet.
Ginger is very pretty and the photographs shown do not do her justice. She has very large soulful eyes under bushy eyebrows. Ginger is an easy dog to look after. She has been in a temporary foster for several weeks and has been no bother at all. Ginger is house-trained and will let you know when she needs to go outside.
She also has good recall as she doesn’t want to be far from you. Ginger is also very keen on playing ball and will happily retrieve a ball for you although she doesn’t always find it when thrown. This little girl also loves her walks. She walks well on the lead and can walk for miles if invited but is also happy with several smaller walks a day, as long as she can be with you.
She also enjoys the hustle and bustle of town life on her walks and doesn’t mind having a look in people’s shopping bags if she gets the chance. Ginger travels well although she prefers to curl up on somebody’s lap or sit on the passenger seat rather than be crated. Ginger is looking for a home where she can be somebody’s loyal companion and share most of the day with them, whether that’s going to work with them or being at home with them. Ginger is very loving and tolerant but we prefer a home without young children please as this is our policy with most of our dogs for adoption.

Ruby is a very pretty 2 1/2 year old female Lurcher cross German Shepherd Dog. She is very loving and loyal.
Poor Ruby has experienced a terrible trauma sometime in her young life. It is suspected that she had boiling oil poured over her back. Thankfully the scarring is now covered by fur and the vet has confirmed that the skin has healed and Ruby will not require any ongoing treatment.
Despite her trauma you couldn’t wish to meet a more affectionate, happy and obedient dog as Ruby, who really wants to please and be with you.
Ruby bonds strongly with her carers so we are looking for a home where Ruby can be someone’s number one companion and who can give her lots of attention. Ruby would also do well with an owner sensible enough not to allow her to become too dependent on them.
Ruby loves retrieving a ball, including those that go into the sea and she will retrieve a ball until she is completely worn out! Ruby also loves playing with other dogs and will try to get dogs to chase her for fun. She will play with dogs of any size.
From a distance Ruby panics when she sees another dog and she will bark and jump about when she is on a lead. Off the lead, she will run up to other dogs, sniff them and come back to you. We feel, therefore, that Ruby is better off in a rural area where she is less likely to be on a lead coming into contact with lots of other dogs.
Ruby lives happily with other dogs. She would be a great companion for another dog. Ruby could possibly live with a cat. Ruby is likely to be fine around sensible children from 10 upwards.
8Mar2010 | Goodward Dog Rescue West Sussex | READ MOREAngel – 9 year old female Samoyed
Angel is a very friendly, pure breed 9 year old Samoyed female. She is a jolly dog who is an active 9 year old. Her temperament is as beautiful as her stunning appearance.
Her story is that she was brought to the rescue along with several other pedigree dogs including her blind son, Scott, as her owners no longer wanted her and the other dogs (through no fault of any of the dogs) and threatened to “do away with them all” if the rescue didn’t take the dogs in. Both Angel and Scott were very matted but they have now been bathed and groomed to show quality standard and are feeling very pleased with themselves.
Angel is wonderful with people, children and other dogs. As she doesn’t seem to have had much contact with cats, we would prefer a home without cats. Angel enjoys her walks and is happy to go for either long country walk or several shorter walks a day.
She walks briskly and very contently alongside you on the lead, wagging her tail and smiling at you when you talk to her. Although she is not let off the lead as she is a sled dog, she is a fine walking companion and is easy to walk.
Angel also loves company and being fussed. She is an adaptable dog fitting in well with a busy household with lots of other dogs as she is very tolerant.
Angel would also do well as someone’s loyal companion. You can’t help but smile with her around as she is always quietly interested in whatever you are doing and she is always in a good mood.
Although Angel arrived with her son Scott, we are looking for separate homes for them both as they both want attention and are confident without the other. We will of course rehome them together if there is the chance we can.
If you are considering adopting Angel please note that her beautiful coat will require daily grooming with a standard slicker brush. It only takes her foster home several minutes a day to do this but it has to be done regularly. Angel also needs to be bathed approximately once a month which can be done at home. Also Samoyeds do shed their coats but this can be kept under fairly easily by daily grooming.
Angel is currently in a foster home in Sussex.
26Feb2010 | Goodward Dog Rescue West Sussex | READ MORECody – 2 1/2 year old male Jack Russell Terrier
Meet 2 1/2 year old Cody who is a handsome male Jack Russel. He is a Jack Russell male who is approx 2 ½ years old. He is currently living in a foster rescue home until a loving home is found for him. He is always happy and cheerful and would make a great family pet because of his sweet temperament. (We suggest sensible children from 8 years upwards). He has a full plumed tail which is constantly wagging and very soft, silky fur. He is not very big and even travelled to the rescue in a cat carrier (without a cat, as he chases thems!)
He loves being around people and children and seems delighted if he’s included in hustle and bustle of a busy household. He will try and jump on your lap to be petted and will roll over on the floor at any opportunity to have his tummy tickled. He also does a little dance to greet people he knows. He really enjoys retrieving a ball for you (right to your feet) and playing his version of football. He has his own ball which is 5 times his size, that he pushes around the enclosure with great delight.
Although he is quite an active little fellow, he is also extremely patient. He patiently watches if other rescue dogs go out for a walk before him and waits calmly and quietly until it is his turn. He is a very confident dog and gets on very well with dogs he knows or lives with. When he is on the lead, Cody barks at some dogs even if they are much larger than him. He thinks he is a large dog and doesn’t realise how small he is. He walks well with a harness on an extendable lead. Cody happily plays off-lead in a garden but need secure fencing at least 5.5 feet high. He is house-trained, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Please call Goodward Dog Rescue for more information if you can offer him a loving home.
