Brynn – 3 year old male Greyhound

Brynn is a Greyhound boy aged 3 years old and, as you can see, is a striking chap currently in foster care in Wiltshire. He has a very regal bearing and wears his ears at a fetching angle. He is an affectionate boy and is very people orientated. Brynn is laid back and cuddles up for fussing. He is a real heartbreaker. Brynn will not be re-homed with cats or small dogs and he would prefer to be an only dog.

He is by no means a nasty dog … quite the opposite in fact. He is extremely affectionate and very laid back most of the time, but if he sees something really interesting, like a squirrel or a small dog he can be overcome with excitement and do that puppy nipping thing to the dog next to him or his handler.
He isn’t being vicious but his behaviour could set off another dog or upset a child so this is why we want him to be an only dog in a child and cat free environment. Brynn adores human company and will be someone’s heart dog. So hurry up special someone, Brynn needs you!

Costello – 4 year old male Lurcher

Costello, whose nickname is Cass, he is a middle aged Lurcher aged approximately 4 years old, who is currently in foster care in Bristol. He has been in a home but very sadly has come into a rescue as his owner was taken seriously ill. Cass is a quiet gentle Lurcher who walks beautifully on the lead and loves a cuddle. He is fully inoculated and has been neutered and would make an excellent pet for a single person or retired couple as he really is a good companion dog.

He is very clean in the kennels so we would presume he is fully house trained and is used to being left, so could suit someone who goes out to work as long as he gets a couple of walks and a toilet break during the day. A cat free home is needed and Cass would prefer to be an only dog.

Cass looks a bit scary but that’s just the way God has made him and he really is a smashing chap, wasted just sitting in kennels looking for his forever home. Also, just to let you know, he is quite a small dog who needs only a normal couple of short walks a day. Costello is a real smiler as you can see!

Del – 3 year old male Greyhound

Del is a really charming Greyhound boy who is currently in foster care in Wiltshire. This lovely lad was quite skinny when he came in and his coat was dull and lifeless but after a couple of weeks of TLC he really started to shine.

There’s nothing quite like a gleaming, black greyhound … he’s a stunning boy, despite his scars. Del is very gentle and good on the lead and he adores people. He gives wonderful cuddles and leans – he’s just adorable. Del will not be re-homed with cats.

Willow – 11 year old female Saluki cross Whippet

Willow is an 11 year old female Saluki cross Whippet who has become homeless through no fault of her own.  She is currently in foster care in Cornwall. Her original owner died, and she came into the care of other family members who had dogs of their own.  Evidently a fight broke out and Willow suffered lacerations and a torn area of skin which had to be removed, leaving a large area of tissue exposed.

Despite being 11 years of age, she has recovered from her injuries extremely well.  Her previous owners simply could not afford the continuing treatment (involving multiple dressing changes) and so poor Willow was brought to the vet’s to be put to sleep.  Our volunteers just couldn’t let that happen.

Despite her slightly advanced years, Willow is in extremely good health, nimble on her feet, and very energetic.  She loves her runs on Kit Hill, where she dashes off madly in all directions!  She is still very fast, but returns whenever she’s called.

Willow is very affectionate, but not entirely happy living with six other dogs, as she does in her foster home.  Whilst she would probably settle well with another male doggy companion, our instinctive view is that she would be happiest as an only dog, perhaps with a lady owner.  She is not demanding, but she obviously adores cuddles and affection. If her age is putting you off – don’t let it!  This still-energetic little madam has plenty of time left, we are sure!

Update from her foster carers: This lass is by no means a walkover as she has very definite ideas of the (huge) amount of affection she deserves each day!  Having had her with us now for a few weeks, her injuries from the dog attack in her previous home have healed very well.  Some of her touchiness, we know, has been due to pain, and having to muzzle her to prevent her from fussing at her wound.  Naturally, this has put her on the defensive, and understandably so.

We have now revised some of our feelings about her.  Though we still think she would settle best as an only dog, we don’t feel this has to be with a lady owner.  Though Willow was nervous around her foster Dad to start with, now she is happy with, and affectionate towards us both.  We now believe an only dog home with a couple without young children would work well.  There is even a chance that Willow would be happy with a male dog, so long as he is passive and she can rule the roost!

With these criteria in mind, Willow will make a wonderful and affectionate pet.  Despite her years, she is in very good general health, and is lively, energetic and curious during walks.  She eagerly follows our boys around, exploring and hunting rabbits. She will make someone a loving, and loveable companion, despite her few foibles!  Slightly advanced years need not be a problem.  Our other foster dog, Bailey, is seven, but as with Willow, the very best years are still to come.

If you are exploring the site, looking for a puppy or young dog, you may well be depriving yourself of the joys of a more mature dog, whose training problems, don’t forget, have already been ironed out!
Some of our “oldies” are truly golden.

Kira – 13 month old female Greyhound

Kira is a 13 month old Greyhound female who has come to us from a puppy shed. She is currently in a foster in Wiltshire but she has poor muscle tone due to lack of exercise and has little experience of the outside world. Despite this she is a gentle, loving girl. Her coat is very brown due to “kennel coat” but she will soon be gleaming like only a black greyhound can gleam.

Kira went out for her first proper walk today and found the world to be a slightly scary but very interesting place. She has already charmed the people she met on her walk with her gentle and friendly nature. She is going to make a loyal and loving companion for some lucky person. Kira is currently in foster waiting for her forever home.

Update from Kira’s foster family: Kira is really blossoming into a cheeky, loving little girl. She was quite stiff when she arrived, through lack of exercise so it is a real pleasure to see her trotting up and down the garden. She is mixing really well with our three dogs so we’re sure she would thrive as a pack member in her forever home. Our Alfie follows her around like a lost lamb and she is very tolerant when he cuddles up and leans his head on her.

Kira is enjoying her walks now and has learnt how to mooch. Her house training is coming on really well. She didn’t have a clue when she was first rescued from the shed. Now she will  tell us if she needs to go out during the night and looks at the door if she needs to go out during the day. She is a little superstar!

Kira has also had her first bath – you don’t want to know the colour of the water we rinsed out. She is starting to show a shiny black coat through the dead, brown kennel fluff and every time we brush her we send drifts of fur floating around the garden. We have found many scars on her poor body. With so many puppies crammed in to one shed, she must have been attacked several times but this hasn’t affected her temperament at all. She is happy, affectionate, tolerant and gentle. Someone out there is going to have a gem of a dog in Kira.
