Lola - 3 year old female Greyhound
The beautiful Lola recently landed in our care from a trainer kennel environment as they are closing down. Lola is a pretty 3 year old Greyhound female who is very nervous and timid. I’m sure with time and reassurance she will start to come out of herself. At first like the other dogs that have come to us from the same place she was terrified of men but is now starting to learn to approach them if left alone and allowed to do it in her own time.
Lola is a sweetheart but very much puppy like in her behaviour, she needs a home with someone around most of the time to begin with and would relish the company of other hounds. She is now clean in the house after finding it difficult at first to ask to go out due to her nerves, but is now confident enough to let you know. She does if you do not watch her steal and chew, but is happy to be confined with another dog to a safe area when left or is happy and more comfortable settling in a crate. She just needs a little more time to understand what is hers and what is not, but loves toys and chew treats.

Lola has been fine out on walks with other dogs she has met, but again will need more socialisation; classes would be a great benefit for her to get a chance to meet and interact with lots of other breeds.
Lola is also currently in foster care with a six year old child whom she gets on well with, her one problem is if she wants your attention she will mouth or nip at you and because of this we feel a home with older children of 10 plus would be better. The foster carers are working with this though and it is improving.
Lola is a pretty, sweet little girl who just needs a stable home enviornment, with someone who can help her continue her journey into cheeky, Greyhound minx. Lola is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Fergal is a 3 year old Greyhound boy who moved into our care recently alongside Lola, Delta and Charity. All of these dogs came from the same trainer and all four are now displaying signs of being very nervous of men so need a gentle understanding home.
Fergal has now been in foster for two weeks, where he is starting to relax and come out of himself and approach you for cuddles and fuss. He is currently living alongside three other Greyhounds, two females and one male, who he gets on well with. He did have a slight altercation with the other male who took to guarding his food, whereas Fergal is a foody and behaves like a hoover, but since then all has been well.

Fergal is not cat friendly and does prick his ears out on walks when he see’s them but does not pull or lunge. He has been curious when meeting other dogs but more in a what on earth is that type manner. We feel that due to this Fergal will benefit greatly from socialisation classes to allow him to see more of other breeds and understand them. He has met his foster carers brothers small collie and was very good with her.
We feel Fergal would be better in a home environment with a confident older bitch who can help bring him out of himself, but would also make a good only dog with someone around all or most of the time to settle him in and help build his confidence. It does need noting though that Fergal can be a little clingy once he bonds with you, so care would be needed to give him space and not allow him to develop anxiety issues.
For someone with a patient, quiet, loving home to offer Fergal will be a fabulous dog, he has the capability to bloom into a very special lad and his foster family are already smitten by his naivety.
Fergal is very responsive to his name and listens intently to commands and just wants to please. If you can help continue to take the vulnerability out of beautiful Fergal’s eyes please contact us, Fergal is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.

Beautiful Wiggle recently made his way into our care from a stray pound and is now in foster care. Wiggle is around 5 months old and is an absolute babe. We can see that he is predominantly Greyhound cross Collie but there may be a touch of Deerhound in him too. He has huge knuckle bones and paws. Wiggle is currently in foster care with three other Lurchers all of whom he gets on well with and is also co-existing with cats and is fine.

Wiggle is doing very well with his house-training but as with all puppies will need someone around all or most of the time to help him continue with this. He walks relatively well on leash but does need a few more lead manners, he would probably benefit from basic training classes.
Wiggle just loves everybody hence the name as his whole bum wiggles and twists when he sees you. Wiggle has had had his 1st vaccination and has been deflead, dewormed and micro-chipped.
As Wiggle is currently too young to be neutered it will be part of your adoption agreement as Wiggles new home to have him neutered at an age agreed between yourself and the rescue. This is compulsory and proof will be required in writing from your vet.
4Aug2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MORERichard - 2 year old male Lurcher
Meet the handsome Richard or Dick to his friends. This Lurcher lad recently made his way into our care from a stray pound situation and is just such a sweetheart. We estimate this Greyhound boy to be around 2 years of age maybe even slightly younger. Dick is a tall boy though and is around 29-30 inches to the shoulder so not a small lurcher, we guestimate his breeding to be probably Greyhound/Saluki/Collie cross.
He is such a sweet natured, cheeky, playful but also loving and gentle boy. He is now in foster care with 2 female Greyhounds and one male all of whom he gets on well with. Out on lead he is a good boy and walks well, so far he hasn’t reacted to other dogs of any breed when they are on or off the lead. He has also had an off lead run in an enclosed field and his recall is said to be quite good already. This boy just wants to please. He also travels well.

Since landing in his foster home he has had a couple of accidents but other than that been clean, he loves to play with the other dogs but will also happily play on his own with toys and isn’t bothered by having to amuse himself.
We feel this lad would be great in a home with other dogs or capable as settling as an only dog if he was only left for a few hours. He settles well overnight and has been left for a few hours during the day with the other dogs for company and has been fine. Dick has not yet been cat tested but we are hoping to arrange this shortly. Dick is flea treated, de-wormed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, KC vaccinated and neutered.
4Aug2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MOREOliver - 3-4 year old male Lurcher
The beautiful Oliver is a 3 - 4 year old Lurcher boy who came into our care recently after one of our volunteers was notified by their neighbour that he had been abandoned and thrown from a car. This photo was taken when he first arrived and he was quite thin but has since put on weight. Oliver had an old injury on his leg that was heavily infected and needed quite major surgery. A lot of flesh had to be cut out and also his main vein had to be cut and restitched as the damaged flesh went around it.
Oliver is currently in foster with 5 other dogs. 3 males and 2 females. All of the males in the house are quite dominant and one especially and Oliver has handled very well being around them. He is good with other dogs after careful introductions but can be a little growly at first and doesn’t like the bouncing in his face.

Oliver is almost fully house-trained but does still have the occasional accident as he wont ask to go out, putting him out regularly means he is clean and he is clean overnight.
Oliver walks like a dream on lead and so far hasn’t reacted to any other dogs he has seen or cats and with the occasional squirrel has just looked then looked away.
Oliver had to do the necessary 7 days in the local stray pound so did have kennel cough when he first went into foster. This is now clearing up, since then Oliver has started to come out of himself and is much more playful equally with the other dogs and toys.
We feel Oliver would be happiest in an environment with at least one other dog but would possibly adapt to being an only dog with someone around all or most of the time to settle him in to begin with. Oliver is quite a tall boy around 28 inches and really is quite beautiful. Oliver is flea treated, de-wormed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, KC vaccinated and castrated.
4Aug2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MORELewis - 3 year old male Greyhound cross Saluki
Sadly the beautiful Lewis, a 3 year old male Greyhound cross Saluki had to come back into our care due to him and the new dog he went to live with having a clash of characters. The other dog was quite stand offish at times giving mixed signals and this led to confusion and too much rough play on Lewis’s behalf.
Lewis is currently in foster with three other Lurchers 2 male and 1 VERY dominant female all of whom he gets on well with. The female in the home has put him through his paces and Lewis has completely ignored her behaviour and shown no signs of having a shout back.

Lewis is house trained but did have a couple of accidents when he first landed in his foster home due to unsettledness but this has now rectified. He goes through the night downstairs with the other dogs also without any accidents.
Out on lead Lewis walks well, he can be a little excitable to being with but soon calms down and walks nicely. He has been fine with most other dogs he meets but if he sees a small dog and it barks at him first will react. He is not cat friendly.
Lewis is left during the day with the company of the other dogs as his foster family work, however, they do come home at lunchtime to allow him to the toilet and again he is fine with this. The dogs stay in the living room area and access to the kitchen is blocked at all times as Lewis has a talent for opening cupboards and drawers and helping himself to whatever he fancies.
So any new owner needs to take measures to prevent this. He has now done it in both foster homes and the home he previously went too. In the current foster home as the access is stopped he has only done it once though when they forgot to stop access to the kitchen.
Lewis is a bright intelligent dog who just loves his humans and the company of other hounds. He would love a home with a female hound and would just flourish with her company. Lewis does have good recall off lead in safe areas. Lewis is flea treated, de-wormed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, KC vaccinated and castrated.
3Aug2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MOREScoots - 1 year old Whippet cross Collie cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Meet Scoots, a chance visit to the pound recently for Lisa and it was love at first snog. Scoots is around 12 months old and is a Whippet cross Collie cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier, by oh my does this dog have a nature to die for. He is cheeky, lively and playful and really doesnt have a nasty bone in his body. Scoots is currently in foster care alongside three other young Lurchers and is as good as gold.

He settles well in his crate overnight as he can still be a little chewey and also is given time out in their for an hour a day whilst he is learning to be calm as he can be a little full on. Out on walks Scoots is a dream, he gets on well with all other dogs he meets and adores children and people, this is a boy who just wants to please and loves to be loved. Scoots is also excellent off leash.
In the house Scoots can be quite boisterous which is why his current foster family are working with time out and also settle and lie down commands in the house. Scoots picks them up almost instantaneously he is just so bright.
Wherever Scoots came from this is a little man who has had time and training put into him, he knows and understands all his basic commands and would excel at obedience if somewhere wanted to take him into that sort of territory, he would definitely benefit though from more basic training classes to help him concentrate on his new owner.
Scoots would also make a fast, fabulous little agility dog and would love a busy home with other young Lurchers or Collie types who know how to play and have fun! With a bit of guidance and more training this dog is going to be a dog of a lifetime, he is so clever, loving and just plain sweet. Scoots is fully house-trained and good to be left with other dogs for a couple of hours already.
Scoots will need a home with someone around all or most of the time to begin with, although he is fabulous with children and has been gentle with his foster carers young grandchildren he may be better in a family home with children 8 + due to his bouncy nature and the risk of knocking little ones over. This dogs is a dream in the making and how he ended up in the pound is just totally beyond me!
10Jul2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MORECandy - 4 year old female Greyhound
Beautiful Candy is a 4 year old Greyhound female who recently made her way into our care and is a real sweet but somewhat nervous girlie. She has been fine with all dogs she has met big and small but is terrified of strange men. Her foster home though are working hard to bring her through this. Out on walks she will bark and growl if strange men approach her but is fine if allowed to meet them and given time to come around on her own.

Although she has been fine with females and children we would prefer a child free or older teenage child home for Candy as we feel younger children would be too much for her and set her back. Candy is currently in foster care with a male Greyhound who she gets on really well with. They cuddle up or have the occasional play and in her own environment she is a cheeky bouncy and somewhat waggy girl. Her foster Mum says she gives the best greetings in a morning and when they return from work.
Candy is clean and is house-trained BUT has had the occasional accident through the day. This though is because her foster carer works full time with her Father coming in and letting the dogs out to toilet, as she is apprehensive of him she wont go out. The accidents haven’t been daily just a couple of times early on and Jacqui her carer believes that in the right home she would be totally clean.
Candy is a special small sweet Greyhound girl who just desperately needs a kind, quiet home to allow her to build her confidence gradually and learn that not all men are bad! Candy is not cat or small furry safe. Candy has been deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed.
10Jul2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MOREGeorge - 2-3 year old Greyhound cross Bedlington cross Bearded Collie
George is a 2-3 year old male, we think he is a Bedlington Terrier cross Bearded Collie cross Greyhound about 23 inches tall. George recently came to us from a stray pound situation so nothing is known of his history. George has now moved into a foster home environment with 7 other dogs as we felt he needed his social skills improving and a large pack was the place to do this without him getting above his station. So far so good he is getting on well with the others and settling in quickly.

Its clear to see that George has never lived with other dogs before and whether he has lived in a house is debatable. He can be a little bit guardy at the moment around food and treats with the others but its still early days and this is improving so he would need for the time being to be fed separately or supervised.
George did mark a little to begin with but is now clean and has the run of the house, he settles down to sleep well and is a good quiet boy. Although he would be happy with company we do feel he would also be quite happy as an only dog with someone around most of the time as he likes to play with toys on his own and is happy to amuse himself! Toys…… yes loves them, loves them, loves them.
Out in the garden George loves nothing than to hoon around and play about with the other young lurchers who play the same games. He has been good with recall in the garden and responds to his name but at the moment the same cannot be said outside the confines. We feel George has possibly been a failed worker as he is bunny mad and goes deaf when out and about and focuses on scanning the horizon. Training classes would probably be a huge benefit to this lad to get him working with you to enable a chance of a recall but at the moment he is most definatly not safe to be allowed off leash as he would take off.
Having Bedlington and Collie in him George will be a very clever lad who will be a capable and quick learner. For a Lurcher experienced family or someone who is willing to spend time and effort bringing this lad on he will become a dream.
George is most definitely NOT cat friendly and because of his guarding around food we would not want to put him into a family with children younger than 10 and would like them to have a good understanding of dogs. At the kennels out on the walks George did react a couple of times to other male dogs who got too far in his face so this does need nothing, however, in the foster home it is him who is noseying into everyone else’s business. George is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.
10Jul2008 | Greyhound Gap | READ MOREFred - 11 year old male Bearded Collie cross Bedlington Terrier cross Whippet
Fred is an older male, who came to us at the weekend after being handed into the vets for euthanasia. His owners have told us he is 11 years old, but we’re not sure he is that old. We think he is a Bearded Collie cross Bedlington Terrier cross Whippet. Fred has lived all his life with cats and is currently in foster with adult cats who he is fine with, however, it needs noting the reason he was handed in for euthanasia was for shaking a small 2 week old kitten.

We do always say though that there is a vast difference in a cat friendly dog and trusting one with a kitten this small. Okay portly is being kind this poor lad is currently obese. Although he is overweight at the moment 22 1/2 inches and weighing in at 26.2 kg he is still quite an active boy. He loves his walks and has good recall and also loves to run around the garden chasing a ball and is still quite agile.
Fred is clean in the house and settles well during the day when his foster Mum goes out to work. He gets on well with all the other dogs in the home 2 males and a female but we feel with someone around would be equally happy as an only dog. Fred is also lovely with children, clean and walks well on leash.
All in all this boy is a dream who just needs to lose some weight and work on his fitness levels. He does have some large fatty lumps at the moment but our vets are happy that these are just that and said nothing more than to just keep a watch on them. Fred should be rough-coated but his coat was matted so the vets cut it back, at the moment though this means we can keep a better eye on how his weight is coming off.
Fred is castrated, micro-chipped and has started his course of vaccinations. Fred will make a lovely all round family dog and someone is going to be very lucky to have this boy come join their family.
