David is a very handsome boy, elegant and pointy and he is very loveable! a complete classic greyhound… he walks like a dream on the lead right by your side… he is very very appealing for greyhound lovers!

David is extremely responsive and a complete foodie! he will do anything for a treat and in the paddocks has superb recall! He loves to be with you and doing. Being such a consistent racer means David has a keen eye for movement so would not be a dog to have off lead in open spaces but he would love a garden to show off his running and have a good blast and play..

Before arriving with us David has only ever met other greyhounds! we are busy getting him out and about and introducing him to the world full of other shaped dogs and animals… David is looking for a sighthound savvy adult home.

10Feb2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MOREDandi – 4-5 month old male Lurcher
We do not know much about his start in life but Dandi is the finest, chipper little white and brindle whippy/lurcher puppy you could hope to meet. He looks so appealing and also is charming. He’s a calm and gentle little man who’s already learnt about the home comforts of soft beds and radiators.

Dandi is in foster with a young lurcher and a cat so is learning his place in the pecking order. Dandi’s very respectful of his elders and definitely of the cat who stands no nonsense. We think he’s about 4/5 months old weighing in just under 10kg.
Dandi walks nicely on the lead and seems to be house trained as no accidents in his foster home where he’s taken out when he goes to the door. Dandi is being crate trained which he’s taking to nicely but he does like the tv or radio on so he doesn’t feel alone.

We are looking for a lovely home for Dandi with somebody around most of the time and dedicated to
putting in the time and work required to raise an all round nice pup.

10Feb2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MOREJorge – 12-18 month old male Greyhound
A young stunning lad who looks like a greyhound but isn’t tattood and came into rescue when he was rescued after being spotted thrown from a car. Jorge isn’t bothered though – he doesn’t let things get him down, for Jorge life is one big game and he loves to play!

Jorge is cat friendly but brave cats only as he is very bouncy and silly! Jorge is looking for a home to teach him how to behave in a pet home – he will come in and take over and be all excited but with some sensible, gentle direction he will soon understand how you want him to behave and I don’t think there will be any looking back….
Jorge is incredibly handsome and we guess he is between 12 – 18 mnths old? Jorge loves to play ball and he does jump up at the moment – but this will need to be on your training what not to do list!!

We are looking for an adult home and Jorge could live with other dogs… he is very social.

10Feb2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MOREWidget – 1 year old male Lurcher
Hi, my name is Widget and I’m about a year old. People say that I could be a Whippet cross Terrier of some sort. I love being around people and having lots of cuddles but can get a bit sad when I move somewhere new and I’m left alone. Once I know the hoomans come back and I have a routine I’m happier and go to sleep in my crate like a good boy. I’m nice and quiet over night and likes a lie in.

Because I’m still young I really like playing with other dogs, but my foster mum says I need to learn some manners about meeting new dogs nicely. I’ve never been to school either, so apparently I need to do that – yawn – but my fostermum says that I’m very responsive to what she says – what ever that means!
I can run really really fast and love chasing my foster sister around the garden. I’m not allowed to run about outside the garden yet, as I don’t know my name. I also love toys, especially furry, squashy ones and I gather them up and put them in my bed along with the odd shoe or boot.

Widget’s fostermum says:
Widget is a very affectionate little chap and really loves attention, but needs to be made to have time alone so he doesn’t become to needy. He’s very gentle and will let you handle him, check his feet, ears etc and you can remove his food bowl with no problems what so ever. As he’s only just been neutered and was also a stray, when his hormones settle and he’s had some training I think he’ll be a cracking little fun dog.

10Feb2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MOREBonnie – 9 year old female Whippet
Bonnie is a beautiful whippet girl who came to us recently from her pet home where she has lived since puppyhood. Bonnie spent most of her life as an only dog – only the last two years she shared with Lola, so we feel Bonnie will be happier back on her own.
Bonnie is in foster with several other dogs! here is what her foster mum says about her……Bonnie bossy boots what she lacks in size she makes up in attitude, she will rule your house from the sofa. Bonnie has a sweet nature and nice manners but if you have another dog she will soon have it right under the thumb and you to if you give her half a chance!

Bonnie lords it over my lot quite happily and they let her. She is a lovely little girl who will melt your heart in two seconds flat I could eat her up and for me to say that is something as I dont do small dogs, shes pert and lively full of fun great to take out, nice on the lead, very responsive, pays attention when you speak to her an all round nice lady.
Bonnie will be an interesting companion with lots of charm and lots of love.

30Jan2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MORELola – 3 year old female Lurcher
Lola came into us recently with Bonnie, an older whippet. Lola was bought as a pup and has always. She lived in a home. Lola has moved to foster and here is what her foster mum says about her. Lola is a little girl who needs to blossom and she is very submissive to Bonnie. I think parting them will do her good.

Lola needs a dog to accept her on equal terms. Lola likes all mine very much and plays well with Pip my huge deerhound. Lola is a staffordshire bull terrier cross whippet and just like her sbt line she is a vocal girl who talks quite a lot and once you realise what she wants communication is very easy. She is sweet by nature nice to have around a generous little girl who will be a loving friend for you and your other dogs.

30Jan2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MORESimon – 1-2 year old male Whippet
Simon is our gorgeous young whippet sized Lurcher boy, estimated to be 1 to 2 years old. We don’t know Simon’s history as he came to us from the pound where he had been taken in as a stray. Simon is now staying in a foster home where he is living alongside two other lurchers and two children. He was a nervous young boy when he arrived but plenty of TLC from his foster family has helped him to overcome his fears, he also draws confidence from having the other dogs around. For this reason we would like Simon to go to a home where there is at least one existing dog to keep him company.
Simon adores the affection and interaction he shares with the two children, he will make a lovely family pet, although we would like him to go with children no younger than eight years old please. He would not be suitable to live with cats.
Simon is a truly lovely boy so we are looking for a truly lovely home for him to go to! Simon is neutered, fully vaxed and chipped.
If you would like to know more about Simon please contact us on 07000 785 092 or via our website www.grwe.com leave your details and we will be in touch very soon.
24Jan2012 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MORERobbie – 8 month old male Lurcher
Please could you put our little man into the lurcher category, thank you. Robbie is an adorable little lurcher boy, estimated to be about 8 months old. Robbie came to us from the pound where he had served his time after being taken in as a stray so we don’t know his history.
He is a friendly little chap, affectionate and very playful. At just 14 kilos he is a very nice size for a cuddle. Robbie is a bit of a live wire and will need a home where he is going to get plenty of interaction. He is still very much a puppy and will need someone who is going to set him boundaries and teach him how to adhere to them.
If you think you can offer Robbie the type of caring home he needs then please get in touch 07000 785 092. Don’t hesitate, this boy won’t be hanging around long!
Lizzie – 12 year old female Greyhound
Lizzie is a gorgeous – in her own way!!! – greyhound girl who came in with 12 yr old Jill – now homed, and 10 yr old Scooby – now a permanent foster dog. Liz had been kept by her trainer after racing but had not really got the retirement she dreamed of, kept in the garden and left to get very overweight and her teeth slowly rotting away.. Liz needed 24 teeth removing when she first arrived in our care. We do not think that Liz got out much either….well how things change….Liz has now lost 4 kilos and is fattening up nicely… she is starting to shed her incredibly thick polar bear coat and her lovely blue is showing through well! Liz will soon be unrecognisable and well… we can’t wait to see those pics. For now I’m afraid you will need to see past the rather unflattering ones we have of her….

We love Lizzie and so does her foster mum… here is what she says about this 10.5 year old puppy! So just Liz left waiting then… Well, what can I say about Lizzie? She’s a gorgeous girlie with a coat like a teddy bear! It’s early days, but so far Lizzie hasn’t put a paw wrong! She is a confident dog, loving her walks and her food, and pottering round the garden. She wasn’t bothered at all about going to see the vet, and took it all in her stride when we had surprise visitors on Saturday. She is showing a couple of typical greyhound traits – rather too much interest in squirrels and cats, and the idea that humans really don’t have anything better to do than give her cuddles! Lizzie was fine when we had some teenage children to visit. In fact, at the tender age of 10.5 years, Lizzie is very young at heart and has a whole world to explore. She hasn’t had to stay home alone yet, but I think she’ll miss human company more than the company of any canine friends!!! I can’t wait to see this girl emerge from her cocoon – she has already discovered the delights of showing the teddy bears who’s boss. Liz is very food oriented and will counter-surf. She has learnt to keep her distance when humans are eating, and a sharp “NO” will prevent her from helping herself out of another dog’s bowl! In fact, she is generally responsive and with time (and treats!) she could be a very obedient girl. I believe Lizzie will really flourish in a home as an only dog – she loves attention, and would really rather not have to share it!! Outside the house Lizzie is happy to meet other dogs, large and small, but cats wisely give her a wide berth.
