Iby - 2 year old female Lurcher cross Ibizan Hound

Iby has come to us from a pound in Wales, she is a young Lurcher (possibly Ibizan Hound cross), approximately 2 years old. We do not know her exact breeding of course; but we have had fun guessing and she does look very Podengo like! but whatever Iby has in her she is a striking, playful young girl, confident and friendly with other dogs and she has a happy disposition.

Iby did live with a family for a very short time but was handed back to the pound when the family decided they couldn’t cope. Iby is a lovely girl just looking for the right home to guide and train her - Iby will need an active home and would love to have a go at agilty!

Iby is fantastic with other dogs, she is a confident, happy girl and wants to be the centre of attention! Iby needs a strong leader to show her the way and then she is more than happy to behave and fit in - she just wants guidance. Iby is currently sharing her kennel with Louie - a lovely laid back boy and they get on brilliantly.

Iby has met the cat today and wasnt that bothered! so with correct introductions Iby could become cat safe. Iby is kenneled in Hertfordshire.

He walks really nicely on the lead and is friendly with other dogs. He is not cat friendly. We are looking for an active home for Solo, please get in touch if thats you! Solo is kenneled in Hertfordshire.

Johnny - 8-10 month old male Saluki Cross

Johnny is a stunning Saluki cross that we have taken in from the pound. We do not have any history on Johnny but he is only young - about 8 - 10 months and he is a lovely boy. Sociable with other dogs and fine with children.

Johnny is very puppyish in his behaviour so will need general guidance and training. Johnny is kenneled in Hertfordshire.

Buster - middle aged male Greyhound

Buster is a middle aged Greyhound male who has had rather bad luck, having been sent back from two homes. As you can see he is a beautiful dog, and he is very loveable - his favourite trick being to roll on his back, wherever he is, to have his tummy tickled. He even does this at fundraising events, to the amusement of everyone around him.

This lovely dog is adoring and adorable, but he does have quite a strong personality and requires firm, confident leadership - for that reason we think he would do well in an experienced home where his owners would help him to understand that he is not ‘leader of the pack’. Buster has been receiving help and training at his kennels, where he is now behaving beautifully and with perfect manners, and this needs to be continued in his new home.

In the right environment and with experienced owners to help him, Buster will make a marvellous pet. We do not think Buster should live with cats, small dogs or children, but he would do very well with other Greyhounds.

Dandy - 3 year old male Greyhound

Meet Dandy, a 3 year old Greyhound male. This very handsome - and very aptly named! - black greyhound dog has come to us directly from his trainer. He is a rather shy boy but with the gentle tlc of the kennel staff he is slowly coming round in our kennels. Dandy had 20 registered races so his career wasn’t a particularly glittering one. Dandy says he would rather be upside down on a sofa with his legs in the air than running around a racing track. We think he’s got the right idea! Dandy is currently in a foster home and is doing really well.

A word from his mum and dad, to let you all know how well he is doing: “Dandy (aka Dan the Man) has been in foster care for 4 months now and has gained so much more confidence and should settle well into a permanent home with owners who have previous Greyhound experience. It goes without saying that experience of a shy dog would also help.”

“Dan is a really affectionate chap who loves a cuddle and to be groomed. On first introductions he will tend to back off but after a while, once he has got to know who you are, it does not take him long to tentatively come forward for a fuss. Food helps too! In his foster home he lives with another black Greyhound and a caged, quite verbal, parrot. Grandchildren often visit and he is really good with them.”

Dolly - 3 year old female Greyhound

Dolly is a beautiful black Greyhound female aged 3 years old. She was bred for racing but didn’t make the grade and was instead used as a coursing dog. Dolly is NOT cat friendly but loves other dogs and is friendly and sociable. She is quite small but very solidly built and has a lovely smiley face. Dolly has come to us together with Puzzle and Yippee from a dreadful situation in Ireland.

You can read more about their story here. Dolly and her friends appear to be in good shape physically but they are understandably very nervous dogs who ideally would be better placed in a home with another steady dog for company. We will NOT be homing them with small children.

Dolly is now in a foster home where she has been for 5 days. She is absolutely loving it! Dolly shares her billet with 9 (yes nine!) other dogs and she simply adores their company. Although still nervous with the humans in the house, she is coming round and now wags her tail in delight when she greets them in the morning. Dolly is clean in the house during the day, and is coming along nicely with it overnight too.

She is okay to be left at home with the other dogs and is a quiet girl around the house. Breakfast time is Dollys’ favourite time of the day, second only to teatime, when she positively wags her bottom with delight at the sight of her bowl. This lovely girl will make a fabulous pet in a quiet country home with other dogs for company ~ does that sound like your house?

Hudson - 2 year old male Greyhound

Hudson, as you can see, is a stunningly handsome blue Greyhound male aged just 2 years old. He has a beautiful face with kind, interested eyes and he is in fact a very kind boy, who can be hugged and handled with complete safety. We are not sure why Hudson was retired from racing at such a young age, because he is of sound health.

He gets very excited when he sees any kind of van, so he is obviously longing to be off on a new adventure. Hudson is very strong, especially at times like those, so we feel that he would benefit from a firm handler with some experience of lead training.

However, we are sure that once Hudson is in a home with regular exercise and lots of new things to think about, he will forget all about racing and settle down to being a truly wonderful pet. Hudson is extremely safe with people, but would NOT be suitable to live with cats.

Greg - 2 year old male Lurcher

Greg is a lovely Lurcher male who is aged approximately 2 years old. He came to us from Ireland, having been rescued from a pound in the nick of time before he was put to sleep. Greg has an old injury on one of his shoulders which looks rather unsightly. However it doesn’t seem to cause him any pain whatsoever, and certainly does not stop him running around and enjoying himself!

Greg loves other dogs and as he is slightly nervous, he would do well in a home with another dog for company. Greg cannot go to a home with cats, but loves people and is eager to make friends with everyone he meets.

Max - 6 year old male Greyhound

Max is our lovely madcap 100 mile-an-hour boy! Max will be 6 years old in May. He retired from racing on a flapping track 6 months ago with no injuries and has been waiting for a place in kennels ever since. When he came into rescue Max was very fat and quite stressed. He’s quite breathless when he is running (in a safe enclosed paddock) and it seems like he has had very little exercise since he retired from racing. We are slowly increasing his exercise and Max is getting fitter by the day.

Max has only ever known kennel life and has had a very limited world up until now. He takes every new experience in his stride and is making the most of his new environment and loving every minute of it! He is a confident dog who is great with people and has previously shared his kennel with a Greyhound bitch. He will need to be carefully introduced to other breeds of dog as he simply does not know what they are, having only ever met other Greyhounds his whole life. He cannot go to a home with cats.

Max had a dental last week and spent the night at home with one of our volunteers. He was the perfect gentleman with the resident dogs in the house, and was clean in the house too! Max is a very affectionate boy who is keen to be friends with everyone, and will be a superb companion dog.

Beanie - 4 1/2 year old male Greyhound

Beanie is a Greyhound male aged 4 1/2 years old. He is tattooed and has come to us from the NE of England, where he was rescued from a dog pound. When he came in he was in a very poor condition, but we are happy to say he is looking much better now that he has had some TLC. Beanie isn’t a big dog and is very friendly. Who knows what his history has been, we will never be privy to that, sadly.
