Eddie – 18 month old male German Short-Haired Pointer cross Springer Spaniel
Eddie is a charming happy energetic German Short-Haired Pointer cross Springer Spaniel 18 month boy. He is being rehomed through no fault of his own, it is just that his love of people allied with his energy and enthusiasm for life are just a bit too much for his current family. He is very healthy.

Eddie loves the company of people and dogs and gets on well with everyone – he particularly likes children although has never lived with younger than teens. He is house trained, walks reasonably well on the lead; travels fine in the car; has excellent recall; and loves playing with toys. He knows basic commands, although his current owners do say they think he isn’t the most intelligent dog, but his friendliness and efforts to please do make up for any lack of training!

Eddie is looking for an active home probably with another companion dog (as he has always lived in a multi-dog household). As mentioned, he adores all the older children he has met, and should be OK with younger children too. Eddie is OK with cats (he is a bit scared of the ones he lives with).
Eddie can still be a bit of a food thief if the opportunity presents itself, and doesn’t like being shut away from the family – he will then cry and scratch, but if allowed in quickly settles and goes to sleep.
Eddie would benefit from onging formal training, and would also enjoy some sort of job – maybe agility? Eddie is now fitter than when the pictures were taken, so is now much less chunky.
Eddie will be shortly going to a foster home near Stevenage, Hertfordshire So if you feel that you can offer Eddie an active home with plenty of company, please contact us.

This is Panda, a very pretty Collie cross German Short-Haired Pointer female whom GSP Rescue offered to help rehome after hearing a sad story of a family not able to keep her due to a change of circumstances. She is only 8 months old and is vaccinated.

Her foster Mum has written:- She has been looked after and is in great health/condition, and is only a young dog ready to explore. She may not have seen much of the world so far, but is so keen to please and enjoying the freedom of running in the paddock. She is under-socialised, and so needs to meet more people and dogs, and we have lots of both here!
She is clean in the house, and knows sit, down, paw, here and no, and is very attentive and keen to learn more. Although she has obviously never walked much on a lead – but that is being addressed! She is just discovering the joys of chasing a ball in the paddock.
After a few days we will have a better idea of the type of home Panda needs, but she will be a superstar at agility when she’s a bit older. Whilst we have only had Panda with us a couple of days, already she is mixing calmly with a couple of dogs after careful introductions, and greeting her foster humans with a really enthusiastic wiggle and a waggle.
So if you feel you have the time and knowledge to help Panda come out of her shell, and develop her full potential, please contact me. At this time we think Panda would probably benefit from a home with an existing confident and well socialised dog to use as a role-model. Panda is being fostered in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
14Aug2009 | GSP Rescue SW | READ MORERonnie – 21 month German Short-Haired Pointer cross English Springer Spaniel
Ronnie is a lovely friendly German Short-Haired Pointer cross English Springer Spaniel aged just 21 months old. He is a friendly happy chap, being rehomed through no fault of his own. A new baby meant Ronnie was being increasingly excluded from the house, and not getting the family interaction he’d been previously used to.

He is vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is house trained and crate trained. He knows basic commands, although would benefit from some extra work in that respect. He walks reasonably well on a normal lead – fine on a headcollar. Ronnie travels well in the car. We do not know how Ronnie would be with cats.
He is very friendly with people – although can be slightly reserved initially. He gets on fine with other dogs – again with initial slight caution. (We believe his slight wariness being caused by lack of socialisation in his previous home, although his confidence is growing in leaps and bounds).
Ronnie’s temperament is more like a Springer than a German Short-Haired Pointer – when on a walk he stays relatively close, and keeps checking back to see what you wnat him to do next! Ronnie loves playing games with any human volunteer, and would suit a family with slightly older children (maybe 8 and older) due to his natural exuberence. Ronnie could well suit agility, as he is naturally athletic, allied with him waiting for the next command.
Ronnie is currently being fostered near Stevenage, Herts.
4Aug2009 | GSP Rescue SW | READ MOREWinston – 8-10 year old male German Short-Haired Pointer
Winston is a really lovely older German Short-Haired Pointer lad aged around 8 years old (although our vet has said he could be up to 10 years old). He was found as a stray in Birmingham in February this year, and spent a month in the Birmingham Dogs Home. They didn’t manage to find a home for him after a month, so contacted us to see if we could help.

We took him out of the kennels in early March as a very thin and stressed lad. Due to his colouring, it is hard to see just how thin he was (and this is after we had him for 3 weeks). Anyway, we fostered him and gradually discovered what a really nice lad he is.

He is vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered. He is house trained and very friendly with people and dogs both in and out of the home. He is reasonably well trained, and walks quite well on a lead and has pretty good recall (helped if you show him you have a ball). Travels beautifully in the car.
As with all German Short-haired Pointers, he is very loving and likes nothing better than cuddling up to his humans. He is physically very fit, happily going for a 1 or 2 hour off lead walk and galloping around, and then coming home and trying to get you to play ball with him (which he adores).
As with many German Short-haired Pointers, he does not like being left, whilst he doesn’t bark or cry, he does search for food etc. and is the cleverest dog I’ve ever met – getting into cupboards, drawers, bread bins and even opening zipped bags to search for something to eat, as well as sometimes checking out the bins. That is improving, and I think will continue to do so with time and confidence on his part.
Also, he is sometimes a bit reactive if startled / scared. I suspect that whilst he is physically extremely fit, his eye-sight and hearing may be a bit under par, and he is also a bit head-shy, so may have been hit in the past. So Winston is looking for an experienced quiet home, maybe with just one or two resident adults who will not need to leave him much (and when they do are willing to ensure that all food is secure from this inventive lad!). He can live with other dogs, or would be happy as a single dog too.
He would chase cats, so cannot be homed with them. He does like his exercise, so needs a person who can take him for decent daily off-lead walks. As with all German Short-haired Pointers, he is very loving and likes nothing better than cuddling up to his humans. He is a lovely easy boy, who needs a new home where he can reward you 10 times over with his love. I hadn’t taken any pictures of this lovely chap for a while, but did so this morning, he may be older, but he’s certainly perfectly fit and active!
Winston can be re-homed anywhere in the country, although any potential adopter will be required to visit him at his foster home in North East Lincolnshire.
19May2009 | GSP Rescue SW | READ MOREField – 3 year old male Collie Cross German Short-Haired Pointer
Field is a lovely friendly German Short-Haired Pointer cross Collie currently being fostered in Warwickshire. We have today collected him up from kennels where he has been for the past 6 weeks after being picked up as a stray. He is believed to be about 3 years old and is not currently neutered. He is friendly, and gets on fine with other dogs. Little else known about him as yet as he was picked up as a stray.

His fosterer also owns a German Short-Haired Pointer cross Collie called Oscar (he is the black and white one), so that means she will have two German Short-Haired Pointer cross Collie boys – I hope she doesn’t find them too much of a handful. His fosterer reports:- Collected Field no problem. He slept curled up most of the way home. Field and Oscar are now getting acquainted. I think he could do with putting a bit of weight on as well.
He is a lovely little dog, slightly smaller than Oscar. Smaller ears. Bit nervous to start with, but very friendly. Doesn’t seem to understand any commands at the moment and does not seem to be house trained. Should not take long to house train him though.
But if you are looking for a very active and intelligent companion, then Field could be the dog for you. His fosterer has also added that she doesn’t think he knows many (any??!) commands, although is very bright and she is sure he’ll pick things up very soon.

Then less than 24 hours in his foster home and I’ve received this update:- Field is adorable and should find a home of his own very quickly.
He has been cuddled by the children, he turns over onto his back to have his tummy tickled, he slept all night very quiet in the basket, and no more “incidents” in the house after the first time he went to cock his leg on the furniture and I told him no. He is also picking up the word wait when we go through door and gates, so he should be very easy to train.
He is very agile and likes to jump on top of everything (must be a collie x GSP trait, as that sounds very familiar!!!). He has twice got into the lounge over the top of the 42” high dog gate, so he will need good high fences, and he chased the cat across the garden.
He settled down over night and looks a lot happier this morning with a lot more tail wagging and no more whining. He is a bit nervous when meeting new people, and comes straight back to me for reassurance, but I am sure given time he will get more confident.
He is a very friendly dog that seems so easy to do, so that he could well be suitable for a less experienced owner willing to put in some training.
Sam – 18 month old male Dobermann Cross
Sam is a lovely 18 month old Dobermann cross boy currently being fostered in Warwickshire. He was originally thought to be a German Short-Haired Pointer cross (which is why he came to GSP Rescue) but now known to be a Dobermann – if not pure, then very close. He certainly looks very like a slightly small Dobermann and has all of the breed traits.

Sam is neutered and vaccinated. Sam is house-trained, crate-trained, travels well in a car; and knows basic commands. He is a typical bouncy lad. He is currently living in a family with two children under 10 years old, another young dog, chickens (securely penned!) and ponies.

He is good with people and dogs, and whilst very interested in the ponies when he arrived, now ignores them. He plays very enthusiastically with the existing dog. He does need more work though to stop him stealing food, jumping up to greet people, and his recall when off lead with distractions – all areas which are improving but need more work. Sam is very clever, and can learn things very quickly, although equally he can be stubborn at times!
Last weekend he was taken to visit our behaviorist to have some time socialising with more dogs, and to have a go at the agility course. He was brilliant and had a go at everything! Sam is looking for an experienced active home where he will receive plenty of exercise, and his training can continue.
