Daisy – 2 year old female English Springer Spaniel
Daisy is a 2 year old English Springer Spaniel and is currently on foster in Cardiff. Just look into those eyes, who could resist? The delightful Daisy is looking for a new home where she will get a lot of love and attention and enjoy an active lifestyle. Daisy adores people and is a very loving and loyal dog. She is currently living in foster care with older children and teens and is well behaved. She can sometimes be bouncy and excitable so would not suit a home with under 8′s.
Daisy’s love of people and being part of the action mean she would not be suitable to live with a full time worker. Although she will relax if left for a short time she would not be comfortable being left for longer periods. She has always been left with canine company in her foster home.
Daisy has been unwell for a while with digestive issues and has undergone investigations and veterinary treatment. She has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This condition will be with her for life and dietary management and steroids will be required. The dosage for her steroids is currently being perfected but will cost between £5 and £10 per month. These costs would need to be covered by her adoptive home.
Daisy is stabilising with her foster home and they are getting a real handle on the condition. The stress of moving could make things worse again for a short time and in fact stress in general could influence the condition from now on. Daisy will not need to be wrapped in cotton wool but stress and worry needs to be kept to a minimum.
Daisy is well socialised and is good with other dogs. She is currently living in foster care with canine company and came in to our care from a multi dog household. She is also good with dogs she meets out on walks. She would love a home with canine company even if it means the threat of sharing her chews! Daisy can be possessive over chews and treats towards other dogs and this would need to be managed carefully in a new home. Daisy cannot be rehomed with resident cats as she shows far too much interest for comfort!
Daisy is intelligent and biddable and will need lots of mental stimulation in her new home. She already has an excellent grasp of basic commands and has been attending training classes with her foster home. Further work will need to be done regarding her walking on a lead and recall building on the foundations laid already. Daisy is very excited when she sees her lead and can pull at first. When running off lead Daisy gets down to the real springer business of flushing birds and other wildlife and her recall needs further improvements. For this reason we would love to find a home experienced with spaniels or other working breeds. Daisy will need to be trained using positive, kind methods only.
Daisy is a young and active dog and will need a home who love to be outdoors where she will get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
Daisy is completely house trained but like many gundogs she can leak urine when excited or being submissive. This is usually when greeting new people if they make a big fuss of her.

10Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREDylan – 3 year old male Lurcher
Dylan is a 3 year old lurcher and is currently on foster in Ulceby, North Lincs. Dylan is a little bit like a super hero. One minute he is the mild mannered Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent in the house and on the lead. Then get him outside and off the lead and Bam! You have yourself a batman or superman kind of guy. Is it a bird? No, is it a plane? No…..it’s a big tan lurcher running at full speed. So don’t be fooled by this couch potato, lounge-about-the-house-and-snooze-all-day attitude. Underneath the facade of calm he is plotting his next blast off the lead and cheeky shenanigan.
Dylan will be looking for a new owner who has owned sighthounds and or lurchers before and understands their ways. He has a strong chase instinct which cannot be switched off at the whim of a human. His desire and drive to chase is programmed into his DNA and we cannot ignore it.
For this reason we will not rehome him where there are cats, small animals or small dogs in the home.

Dylan does have good recall when there are no distractions, however, the sort of things that would distract him cannot be anticipated or prepared for. He will need an owner who can take great care about when to let him off the lead and he should be muzzled for safety. If he goes to a new home with other sighthounds, lurchers or dogs with a high chase drive he should be let off lead on his own as he is easily led astray and egged on by the presence of others when running.
Dylan is living with other dogs in his foster home and gets along with them well. However, he would also suit a home as the only dog. He does value a rawhide chew highly and can grumble at other dogs when he has one (although not people).
Dylan loves people and is very easy to live with. He is gentle and friendly with all he meets, even the vet and is very easy to handle. He is good with children and could be rehomed with children over 6 years.
*Please note we do not rehome dogs where they will be worked i.e. used to deliberately hunt other animals*

10Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREMatilda – 1-2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Matilda is everything that epitomises a Hope dog. A dog who was rejected, saved and is now ready to start a new life. She is a wonderful dog with a comical and loving personality. Matilda came to us from Cardiff pound where she had spent many, many months waiting in their kennels. We took her on and again she had to wait in kennels for a foster offer to come through. She has now been extensively assessed by her foster home, loved and cared for and we have watched her bloom and develop in to the dog she is now.
Matilda is a very loving and affectionate dog and adores people and their company. She is very well handled and socialised with people and even sees a trip to the vets as a wonderful social day out. Matilda has been good with children she has spent time with in her foster home but she is a bouncy and exuberant dog so we would prefer her to live with children over the age of 8 years who are used to dogs.

Matilda lacked some early socialisation with other dogs and then was kennelled for a long time. This meant she spent many months in the company of other stressed dogs. When she would go for a walk she would be very excited and she learnt this as a pattern of behaviour. She can now becomes over excited when she greets other dogs and this affects her behaviour towards them. Her foster carer has been working with our trainer Sian of Cardiff dog training club and behaviourist Jen Underwood of Petrouble. Matilda is an excellent student and has been introduced to the clicker. She has been introduced to and developed relationships with other dogs, her foster carer explains-’Careful introduction were made with my friends 2 JTR’s; Tyla (4, Male) and Pippin (7, female) and Tilly now spends lots of time with them, in our house and theirs, they go on lots of walks together and she is fantastic with them. She’s not possessive with her food or toys and always looks visibly dejected when they leave. She’s really well behaved with them and obviously enjoys their company.’
Matilda could be rehomed with other dogs if careful introductions could be made and the other dogs were calm and well socialised and could be a good role model for Matilda. She of course be rehomed as the only dog.
Matilda is an active dog who loves her walks and would need to get out and about daily to keep her stimulated and work on her social skills. She has a good jump meaning she would need a secure garden.
Matilda is good when she has been left on her own as long as she has had a walk and has something she could chew on should she wish. She could be rehomed with a full time worker if she had someone visiting and walking her in the middle of the day. They would need to be committed at other times to ensuring she received enough mental and physical stimulation.

10Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORESam – 2 year old male Husky
Sam is a 2 year old male husky and is currently on foster in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. Sam is a stunning dog, very handsome and proud. He is fairly typical of the husky breed and will be looking for an experienced owner. He will not be suitable as a first dog due to his strong nature. He has been living with two collies in his foster home but he is assertive around them and would be best suited to a home on his own or possibly with a calm female companion.
Out on walks he can be standoffish with some new dogs that he meets and looks a little tense. his foster home is socialising him and getting him out and about to meet other dogs in a controlled way. He is being rewarded for calm quiet behaviour and distracted if he becomes over excited or tense. This will need to continue in his new home and we would recommend that anyone adopting him take him to training classes or one to ones.

Sam has not been off lead with his foster home as he has a strong chase drive. If a new home were looking to let him off the lead this would need to be worked on gradually, reinforcing recall and giving him freedom carefully on a long line and in secure areas to begin with. He is strong when on the lead and has been introduced to a Gentle Leader head collar and is now walking nicely. Sam will chase and cannot be rehomed with cats, small animals, livestock or birds.
Sam has been living in an adult only foster home. He came in to our care as a stray with poor body condition, he can be snatchy with food and did originally guard his food bowl but this has been worked on. Taking this into account alongside his bouncy and exuberant nature we do not feel he is suitable to be rehomed with children. He can be rehomed with teenagers and adults.
Possessive behaviour around food and his bowl was evident when he first arrived in foster care but this has been worked on using kind positive methods to gain trust and this has been very successful. When he is rehomed a new owner will need to be aware of this in case the stress of moving from his foster home sparks a reoccurrence.
Sam is crate trained and is happy to be left for up to 4 hours. He would not be suitable for a full time worker but could live with someone doing part time hours.
Taking Sam to training classes or one to ones is strongly recommended.

7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREGrace – 7 year old female Greyhound
Hi everyone my name is Grace and I am a greyhound. I forget how old I am (plus I have been told a lady never reveals her age) but i am believed to be around 7 or 8 years old. I am keeping tight lipped about my past, I am leaving it a complete mystery but I wound up at the pound as a stray. I have been living with a lovely foster home for a month or so now and they have been very welcoming. I have 4 canine foster brothers and sisters and one human sister who is 8 years old. I love my human sister, she is my favourite person and I could be rehomed with other children. I am a bit too old to be running around after little ones but children over the age of 6 who are used to dogs would be fine by me.

As I said I have been living with other dogs and I am good with them and happy to share my toys and bed. I can be a bit bossy when people are giving out cuddles and affection. I always like to get in there first and I will jump the queue if another dog is in my way. I think to save arguments I would be best rehomed with fewer canine companions than i have in my foster home. Maybe just one other dog or with me as the only dog (and therefore centre of attention anyway
I would like an active and fun loving new family. I do not need huge walks for miles and miles but I like to go out for a sniff and a mooch. I do not pull on the lead, I am content to walk by your side. I would like a garden with secure fences that I can potter around in and chase after a toy.
I am definitely looking for a tactile and affectionate new family to match my character. I have a lot of love to give and am a real cuddle bunny. I am not looking to be a dog on the side lines of family life. I want to be right there in the thick of it.
Grace is a 7 year old greyhound and is currently on foster in Pontyclun, South Wales.

7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREPepper – 2 year old female Pug cross Cairn Terrier
Pepper is a 2 year old pug cross Cairn terrier and is currently on foster in Wrexham. Pepper is a 2 year old cairn terrier cross pug. She is a fun, bright and bubbly dog who will fit in well with any new home. She loves company either human or canine and would not like to live with a full time worker.
Pepper is good with other dogs she meets out on walks and has been good with the dogs in her foster home. She could be rehomed as a single dog if she had plenty of human company or to a home with existing dogs. There have been disagreements over a toy with one of the dogs in her foster family and this would need to be considered when introducing her to an existing pack.

Pepper has a keen drive to chase and will not be able to be rehomed with cats, chickens, rabbits etc in her new home.
Pepper has been in foster carer with children and has been good with them. She is an excitable and bouncy dog and could knock smaller children over.
Pepper is a little overweight at the moment however, in the short time she has been with her foster home she has lost over a kilo! The weight will continue to drop off with good diet and exercise. Pepper is an active and busy dog falling more to the terrier side of her breeding. She will not be a coach potato and will need a good run off lead each day. She will also need to have her mind kept active as she is an intelligent dog. She would benefit from further training as she can pull a little on the lead (although she is much better on a harness). She does have excellent recall however and is good off the lead.
Pepper has been left for a couple of hours at a time by her foster home and has been fine. She has always been left with other dogs in her foster home so care would have to be taken to build any time alone gradually if she were rehomed as the only dog.

7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREJudy – 4 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Judy is a 4 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and is currently on foster in Ledbury, Hereford. I am going to use Judy’s foster carer’s words to best describe her:
‘Judy has proved she’s easy going and adaptable, she’d fit in anywhere. She is confident and fun loving. She would enjoy a busy life with lots of human company and adventures. Judy is great with our collie and tears about with him whenever she gets the chance. I think she could live with or without other dogs. She is bossy, so introductions with other dogs should be handled by a confident human. Judy would happily live in a town, she LOVES the countryside, it’s all very exciting. Judy did chase sheep, geese, cats and chickens when she first got here, she is much, much better now, but her new people must keep her under control round livestock. Judy really enjoys playing fetch, tug, and anything ‘ruff and tumble’. She’ll need at least 2 interesting half hour walks a day. She loves her food, is gentle with it and would enjoy learning tricks for treats.’

Judy is currently living with a collie in her foster home and she has settled in with him very well and enjoys lots of chase games and fun. When she meets dogs out on walks she can get over excited and be bossy and in your face with them. However, if one thing is true about Judy it is that she is intelligent and trainable so we are sure this can be worked on. If she were to be rehomed with existing dogs care would have to be made with introductions but she would soon settle in and become part of your pack. She could also be rehomed as a single dog.
Judy is also living with cats, she would chase them at first but very quickly learnt to be good and is now very trustworthy around them. She could be rehomed with calm cats who are used to dogs. She may still chase a fast moving kitty cat.
Judy is a very loving and tactile dog and loves nothing more than snuggling up on the settee in the evening. She has been good with children she has met out on walks however; she is living in an adult only foster home so has not been fully assessed with young children. She could be rehomed with children over the age of 8 who are used to dogs.
Judy was not initially keen on being left but this has been gradually and carefully built up by her foster family. She has now been crate trained and has learnt she can be alone for a few hours without needing to worry. This has always been after a good walk and leaving her with something to chew on or an activity toy. She may suit a part time worker or would love to go to work with someone. She loves travelling in the car and will jump in eagerly to see where we are going.

7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREBernie – 12 month old female Cross-Breed
Bernie is a 12 month old crossbreed (we believe he is beagle cross) and is currently on foster in Llanbradach, South Wales. Fit and active young lad WLTM similar family for fun and adventure. Must have a GSOH and ability to open a bonio box (opposable thumbs a bonus in this department). Enjoys long walks, snoozing by the fire and learning new things. Hello everybody, Bernie here. I am on a quest to find myself a new family. I want to tell you a little about myself to see if we might be a good match for each other.
I am a social guy and I love to meet new people, once I know someone I will be the most loving and loyal friend they have ever had. You can’t get rid of me once you have earnt my trust I would like an adult only home or somewhere with older children who can play and run around with me but are not so small that I may accidentally knock them over. I did once have scary time with a very small child which unnerved me but I have not shown any sign of this being repeated.

I am a bit of a ‘lone wolf’ when it comes to being around other dogs. I have doggy friends but I can take or leave them really and I am looking for a new home where I will be the only dog. There are times when I do not see eye to eye with a dog that I meet and I can have a short temper. This is something I need help to work on and I would like a new owner who will take me to training and help me to learn to be a bit more social. It is not my fault you see, I led a sheltered life for a while and was not taken out and about. This means I get worried about being around other dogs and instead of retreating I put on a big blustery display so that the other dog might leave me well alone. I like to think I am a bright lad (not that I am bragging) so hope that we can work through it.
I have learnt some basic commands (as I have found these to be an excellent way to get treats from my human foster carers). I also walk nicely on the lead next to them as long as I am not too excited (weeeellll, I am only 12 months old after all). I like to have a run around off the lead to explore new sniff, I have been told I may have some beagle breeding so I like to test this theory and get out there amongst the wonderful sniffs. I am a very good boy though and come back when called. I will be looking for a new home who are active and will make sure I get out for fun, varied walks.
I have been left on my own by my foster family for up to 4 hours and they have introduced me to my very own little den in the form of a crate. I like tucking myself up in my crate and will settle down to snooze after a while. That being said, I consider myself to be more of a people person and would not like to be left alone while my new owners work full time. I know it suits some dogs but I am not sure it would be for me.
If you like what you have read and you would like the chance to come to meet me in the flesh please get in touch with my personal secretary Heather (also known as the rehoming coordinator) at dogs@hoperescue.org.uk. She can see if we will be a match made in heaven.
Taking Bernie to training classes or one to one training sessions will be a requirement of his adoption.

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORESnow – 2 year old male Collie cross German Shepherd Dog
Snow is a male 2 year old collie cross German shepherd and is currently on foster in Pontypridd, South Wales. Snow is the sort of dog who is a true pleasure to rehome. He is a perfect gentleman and a very genuine and loving dog. He has settled in with his foster home beautifully and has been very good with the children and their existing dogs. He could be rehomed with other dogs or on his own.
Snow loves to be out and about and will be looking for an active new home who will get him out at least twice per day. Having said that he is not a demanding dog and settles in the house and does not pester to be walked. He will need a secure garden as he has a good jump.
Snow has not been fully assessed with cats but he came to us as a surrender rather than from the pound meaning we have some history for him. We were told he was OK with cats so this may need further testing if he were to be considered to be rehomed with feline friends. He has been living with children aged 6 and 8 and has been very well behaved with them. He could be rehomed with children over the age of 5 years. He can be a little shy when he meets new people but he soon warms up to their company.
Having told you all his good points now it is time for the challenging points. However, in typical Snow style they are pretty minor and easy to deal with. Firstly he loves plastic bags and will shred them if he gets his paws on them. He is also a bin raider

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORENyx – 15 week old female Husky cross Malamute
Nyx is a 15 week old Husky cross Malamute and is currently on foster in Blackwood, South Wales. Nyx is a lovely, happy, confident, well socialised puppy. She has begun to go for walks and is learning to walk nicely on the lead. She is good with other dogs and could be rehomed with existing dogs or on her own. Nyx has not been in foster care with cats however she is young enough to learn. Care would have to be taken if she were to live with cats to ensure she did not learn about the thrill of the chase. The two breeds in her make up can have high chase drives and this would need to be considered. this would mean managing interactions closely at the first and using positive reinforcement methods to encourage calm, quiet behaviour.
Nyx is living with older children and is very well behaved with them She could be rehomed with children over the age of 5 years who have spent time with large breed dogs and would not be phased by a bouncy puppy who will play bite.
Like any puppy Nyx needs and thrives off company and direction. We do not rehome puppys to full time workers and any time she is left alone would need to be built up gradually so that she learns to be comfortable in her own skin and is happy to be without human company.
Adopters are responsible for having puppies neutered once they are old enough and this will be followed up as part of the guardianship agreement they enter into.
All puppies must also attend training classes, this will be followed up also. If you do not know of training classes in your area please research this before applying to ensure you can comply with this element of the adoption
Please note we will not rehome puppies to full time workers.
Due to Nyx’s mix of breeds we would prefer to rehome her to people who are used to large breed dogs. Preferably the northern breeds such as huskys and malamutes so that they are aware of the breeds specialist care.
