Pepper – 2 year old female Pug cross Cairn Terrier
Pepper is a 2 year old pug cross Cairn terrier and is currently on foster in Wrexham. Pepper is a 2 year old cairn terrier cross pug. She is a fun, bright and bubbly dog who will fit in well with any new home. She loves company either human or canine and would not like to live with a full time worker.
Pepper is good with other dogs she meets out on walks and has been good with the dogs in her foster home. She could be rehomed as a single dog if she had plenty of human company or to a home with existing dogs. There have been disagreements over a toy with one of the dogs in her foster family and this would need to be considered when introducing her to an existing pack.
Pepper has a keen drive to chase and will not be able to be rehomed with cats, chickens, rabbits etc in her new home.
Pepper has been in foster carer with children and has been good with them. She is an excitable and bouncy dog and could knock smaller children over.
Pepper is a little overweight at the moment however, in the short time she has been with her foster home she has lost over a kilo! The weight will continue to drop off with good diet and exercise. Pepper is an active and busy dog falling more to the terrier side of her breeding. She will not be a coach potato and will need a good run off lead each day. She will also need to have her mind kept active as she is an intelligent dog. She would benefit from further training as she can pull a little on the lead (although she is much better on a harness). She does have excellent recall however and is good off the lead.
Pepper has been left for a couple of hours at a time by her foster home and has been fine. She has always been left with other dogs in her foster home so care would have to be taken to build any time alone gradually if she were rehomed as the only dog.
All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. 7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREJudy – 4 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Judy is a 4 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and is currently on foster in Ledbury, Hereford. I am going to use Judy’s foster carer’s words to best describe her:
‘Judy has proved she’s easy going and adaptable, she’d fit in anywhere. She is confident and fun loving. She would enjoy a busy life with lots of human company and adventures. Judy is great with our collie and tears about with him whenever she gets the chance. I think she could live with or without other dogs. She is bossy, so introductions with other dogs should be handled by a confident human. Judy would happily live in a town, she LOVES the countryside, it’s all very exciting. Judy did chase sheep, geese, cats and chickens when she first got here, she is much, much better now, but her new people must keep her under control round livestock. Judy really enjoys playing fetch, tug, and anything ‘ruff and tumble’. She’ll need at least 2 interesting half hour walks a day. She loves her food, is gentle with it and would enjoy learning tricks for treats.’
Judy is currently living with a collie in her foster home and she has settled in with him very well and enjoys lots of chase games and fun. When she meets dogs out on walks she can get over excited and be bossy and in your face with them. However, if one thing is true about Judy it is that she is intelligent and trainable so we are sure this can be worked on. If she were to be rehomed with existing dogs care would have to be made with introductions but she would soon settle in and become part of your pack. She could also be rehomed as a single dog.
Judy is also living with cats, she would chase them at first but very quickly learnt to be good and is now very trustworthy around them. She could be rehomed with calm cats who are used to dogs. She may still chase a fast moving kitty cat.
Judy is a very loving and tactile dog and loves nothing more than snuggling up on the settee in the evening. She has been good with children she has met out on walks however; she is living in an adult only foster home so has not been fully assessed with young children. She could be rehomed with children over the age of 8 who are used to dogs.
Judy was not initially keen on being left but this has been gradually and carefully built up by her foster family. She has now been crate trained and has learnt she can be alone for a few hours without needing to worry. This has always been after a good walk and leaving her with something to chew on or an activity toy. She may suit a part time worker or would love to go to work with someone. She loves travelling in the car and will jump in eagerly to see where we are going.

7Nov2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREBernie – 12 month old female Cross-Breed
Bernie is a 12 month old crossbreed (we believe he is beagle cross) and is currently on foster in Llanbradach, South Wales. Fit and active young lad WLTM similar family for fun and adventure. Must have a GSOH and ability to open a bonio box (opposable thumbs a bonus in this department). Enjoys long walks, snoozing by the fire and learning new things. Hello everybody, Bernie here. I am on a quest to find myself a new family. I want to tell you a little about myself to see if we might be a good match for each other.
I am a social guy and I love to meet new people, once I know someone I will be the most loving and loyal friend they have ever had. You can’t get rid of me once you have earnt my trust I would like an adult only home or somewhere with older children who can play and run around with me but are not so small that I may accidentally knock them over. I did once have scary time with a very small child which unnerved me but I have not shown any sign of this being repeated.

I am a bit of a ‘lone wolf’ when it comes to being around other dogs. I have doggy friends but I can take or leave them really and I am looking for a new home where I will be the only dog. There are times when I do not see eye to eye with a dog that I meet and I can have a short temper. This is something I need help to work on and I would like a new owner who will take me to training and help me to learn to be a bit more social. It is not my fault you see, I led a sheltered life for a while and was not taken out and about. This means I get worried about being around other dogs and instead of retreating I put on a big blustery display so that the other dog might leave me well alone. I like to think I am a bright lad (not that I am bragging) so hope that we can work through it.
I have learnt some basic commands (as I have found these to be an excellent way to get treats from my human foster carers). I also walk nicely on the lead next to them as long as I am not too excited (weeeellll, I am only 12 months old after all). I like to have a run around off the lead to explore new sniff, I have been told I may have some beagle breeding so I like to test this theory and get out there amongst the wonderful sniffs. I am a very good boy though and come back when called. I will be looking for a new home who are active and will make sure I get out for fun, varied walks.
I have been left on my own by my foster family for up to 4 hours and they have introduced me to my very own little den in the form of a crate. I like tucking myself up in my crate and will settle down to snooze after a while. That being said, I consider myself to be more of a people person and would not like to be left alone while my new owners work full time. I know it suits some dogs but I am not sure it would be for me.
If you like what you have read and you would like the chance to come to meet me in the flesh please get in touch with my personal secretary Heather (also known as the rehoming coordinator) at dogs@hoperescue.org.uk. She can see if we will be a match made in heaven.
Taking Bernie to training classes or one to one training sessions will be a requirement of his adoption.

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORESnow – 2 year old male Collie cross German Shepherd Dog
Snow is a male 2 year old collie cross German shepherd and is currently on foster in Pontypridd, South Wales. Snow is the sort of dog who is a true pleasure to rehome. He is a perfect gentleman and a very genuine and loving dog. He has settled in with his foster home beautifully and has been very good with the children and their existing dogs. He could be rehomed with other dogs or on his own.
Snow loves to be out and about and will be looking for an active new home who will get him out at least twice per day. Having said that he is not a demanding dog and settles in the house and does not pester to be walked. He will need a secure garden as he has a good jump.
Snow has not been fully assessed with cats but he came to us as a surrender rather than from the pound meaning we have some history for him. We were told he was OK with cats so this may need further testing if he were to be considered to be rehomed with feline friends. He has been living with children aged 6 and 8 and has been very well behaved with them. He could be rehomed with children over the age of 5 years. He can be a little shy when he meets new people but he soon warms up to their company.
Having told you all his good points now it is time for the challenging points. However, in typical Snow style they are pretty minor and easy to deal with. Firstly he loves plastic bags and will shred them if he gets his paws on them. He is also a bin raider

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORENyx – 15 week old female Husky cross Malamute
Nyx is a 15 week old Husky cross Malamute and is currently on foster in Blackwood, South Wales. Nyx is a lovely, happy, confident, well socialised puppy. She has begun to go for walks and is learning to walk nicely on the lead. She is good with other dogs and could be rehomed with existing dogs or on her own. Nyx has not been in foster care with cats however she is young enough to learn. Care would have to be taken if she were to live with cats to ensure she did not learn about the thrill of the chase. The two breeds in her make up can have high chase drives and this would need to be considered. this would mean managing interactions closely at the first and using positive reinforcement methods to encourage calm, quiet behaviour.
Nyx is living with older children and is very well behaved with them She could be rehomed with children over the age of 5 years who have spent time with large breed dogs and would not be phased by a bouncy puppy who will play bite.
Like any puppy Nyx needs and thrives off company and direction. We do not rehome puppys to full time workers and any time she is left alone would need to be built up gradually so that she learns to be comfortable in her own skin and is happy to be without human company.
Adopters are responsible for having puppies neutered once they are old enough and this will be followed up as part of the guardianship agreement they enter into.
All puppies must also attend training classes, this will be followed up also. If you do not know of training classes in your area please research this before applying to ensure you can comply with this element of the adoption
Please note we will not rehome puppies to full time workers.
Due to Nyx’s mix of breeds we would prefer to rehome her to people who are used to large breed dogs. Preferably the northern breeds such as huskys and malamutes so that they are aware of the breeds specialist care.

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREToby – 1-2 year old male Labrador cross Collie
Toby is a mix of two of the most popular breeds in the UK and he has taken on all the good points of both breeds. We believe he is a Labrador cross collie (we do not know for sure as he was picked up as a stray). Like a lab he is loving and loyal and soft as butter with people. He loves company and is good with children and adults alike. Toby has taken the collie’s love of play and intelligent, quick mind. He is an active dog who loves a good blast off the lead.
Toby has the collie drive to herd and chase and this shows around small animals so we will not rehome him with cats. Care would also have to be taken around livestock, particularly sheep. His herding drive can be channelled through play, giving him an outlet for the drive and teaching self control behaviours. He would be absolutely ideal for a sport such as agility or flyball.
Toby is very good with other dogs he meets out and about on his walks. If they are running off the lead he can go into herding patterns and chase. His recall is being bombproofed by his foster family to ensure he can be called away if things are getting too exciting in the park! He is an active dog and loves a good run, he will need a new home where he can get plenty of varied walks to see the sights of the world. He loves to be out and about and loves swimming. Ideally he would be looking for a new owner with a secure garden (he has a good jump!) where he can have a bounce about with his ball.
Toby is good with children and can be rehomed with children aged 6 years plus. However, they would have to be used to large dogs as he can be boisterous when out of the house and he does jump up sometimes which is something his foster family are working on.
Toby has been happy to be left but he does need access to things of his own that he can chew such as an activity toy with food in or strong chew toys. He likes to use his mouth when he is bored (must be the Labrador in him). He does love company and would not be suitable for a full time worker but could suit someone who works part time.
Toby is strong on the lead when he goes out for a walk and his foster home are working on loose lead walking techniques with him which would need to continue in a new home. He also needs work on his recall as he has just had a name change and is excitable outdoors. Care would have to be taken in a new home letting him off lead until he settles and has bonded with his new owners.

20Sep2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREDanny – 7 month old Whippet cross Lurcher
Danny is a 7 month old whippet Lurcher Cross type, and is currently in foster in Sheffield.
The Danny fact file:
Dog status: Good. He is learning to play well. He could easily be homed with a dog(s), especially one that will teach him doggy manners.
Cat status: Danny does not want a home with cats or small furies.
Child status: Has not been in foster with children, however has met children and enjoyed being petted. As he is a puppy he may try to mouth-play, so could be homed with dog savvy children.
House training: Perfect. Not a single accident in foster.
Home alone: Danny loves company, but is young enough that he can be taught to be left alone over a period of time. He would prefer for someone to be home the majority of the time, being only a young boy. Another dog in the household could help with this.
Basic training: Danny has had no training before coming to foster. He has now learnt sit, and is learning to come to his name and the command lie down. He walks well on the lead with no problems. He is learning his manners when it comes to wanting attention, and has learnt not to mouth-play when it is not wanted.
What a lovely little chappy Danny is. He absolutely LOVES people! He loves attention, be it cuddles or play and will happily jump onto your lap/sofa/bed for a cuddle if allowed! He has a permanent itch on his neck that he absolutely loves to be scratched. Who couldn’t love this little boy?
Danny’s favourite past-times are cuddling with you, playing with you, and giving you lots of kisses – especially in the morning! Ideally, Danny would like someone to be home the majority of the day, as he is still only a baby. Home-alone would need to be built up for him, but I think he is young enough to easily be taught that being alone is okay (as he is happy to go off in another room if you are busy).
Danny truly is the most loveliest cuddliest doggy who just wants a lot of love and affection. He honestly deserves the best home possible, and will give a person/family the most loving pet anyone could ever want.

24May2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MORECharles – 10 month old male Shar-Pei Cross
Charles is a 10 month old shar pei cross and is currently on foster in Leicester.
The Charles Fact File
Dog status: Very good, has been in foster care with another dog and is good with those he meets out on walks.
Cat status: Excitable, may be better rehomed without cats.
Child status: Good, can be rehomed with children aged 6 years plus.
House training: Perfect.
Home alone: Can be left for short periods and is crate trained.
Basic training: Know sit, has good recall and will wait to be told he can eat once his bowl has been put down.
This dog is such a loving young boy. He is definitely dog friendly, even when being snapped at and humped by other dogs! He has not shown one bit of aggression at all. He is very excited by cats although he soon calms down and listens to you, so maybe with very careful introductions he could live with a dog savvy cat.
Charles is very playful with other dogs and is enjoying daily play time with the resident dog in his foster home Kipper.
Charles has had only one accident in the house and this was on day one. Since then he has worked out where the back door is and been fine.
He can be a little boisterous and excitable but for a young dog he is not too bad at all. He does listen and he is quite a submissive dog. He will let you take toys and food from him with no problems. He is a bit of a pig though and he eats his food as if he hasn’t eaten for weeks! Then he will move on to eat Kipper’s. After a couple of times doing this, Kipper told him off and he has not attempted it since. His fosterer has been putting things in his bowl to slow down his eating and also put some food in a kong which is helping.
Charles is great with the fosterers two children (6 and 8 yrs), although he did knock the 6 year old over when he first arrived but now he is getting two good walks a day he is very calm in the house and no bother at all. He sleeps all night in a crate without any problems, although he is with the resident dog and this helps him to settle.
He pulls a bit on the lead but not excessively and his recall isn’t too bad although if he is sniffing something he will come when he has finished and not necessarily immediately. After a good walk he will come home for a synchronised sleeping session in the sun! (And a bit of snoring too…forgot to mention that!).
Charles is a big cuddle monster and a stunning one too! He has an adorable personality and a shiny coat to match. He is a delight to have around and just a wonderful, gorgeous boy.

24May2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREDanny – 3 year old male English Springer Spaniel
Danny is a 3 year old English Springer Spaniel and is currently on foster in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. Danny has not been well and is still currently under the care of the vet for further investigations. He will not be ready to go to his new home until he is fit and well and has gained some weight however, interest can be registered in him in advance if you can wait patiently.
The Danny Fact File
Fine off the lead but can be wary when on lead and has been known to bark at other dogs. He is not in foster with other dogs currently but may be able to live with calm, social canine companions. He has not in foster care with cats and was very interested on the one occasion he has seen one. Good, could be rehomed with children aged 6 plus.
House training: Very good.
Home alone: Danny loves company and is not 100% happy to be left on his own. His foster family have crate trained him and he is learning to be on his own very gradually.
Basic training: has excellent recall, know sit, wait, stay and will wait to be told to eat
Special skill: Likes socks a bit too much!

24May2011 | Hope Rescue Wales | READ MOREDaisy – 5 year old female Rottweiler
Daisy is a 5 year old Rottweiler and is currently on foster in Newcastle Emlyn, Wales. Whilst Daisy can be social and enjoy other dogs company, it is on her own terms and she can be assertive and reactive, especially with other female dogs. Daisy loves a good chase so would not be safe to be rehomed with any cats or small animals. Daisy is looking for a home with no children.
House training: Was a work in progress when she first arrived at her foster home but has a good routine now and is clean Daisy bonds very closely with people and does not like to be alone. She will be looking for a home where someone is around for the best part of the day. She arrived in care very fearful and would cower and crouch when you went to stroke her, this is getting a lot better but she’s been badly abused and training has to be careful to keep her confidence as she’s naturally sensitive.
To sum up Daisy I will use a quote from her foster mum ‘I know beyond a doubt she would walk through fire with me!
Daisy has been through a lot in her short life and her experiences have left her a confused and sensitive dog. Daisy is looking for an experienced home who have previously owned Rottweiler’s or similar large guarding breeds. The ideal home will be a quiet and adult only, where peace and kindness reign and she can continue to bloom. She is not a dog for busy, noisy environments and a quiet, rural home would suit her best.
Daisy is currently in foster with other dogs but she can be intolerant of other large females and can be assertive in her interactions with them. We will not rehome her with existing female dogs.
Daisy bonds very deeply and loyally. Once she knows you and you win her trust and love she will devote herself to you. This means she likes to be in the company of her people as much as possible and will be looking for a new home where people are around for the best part of the day (or all of the day if Daisy got her way).
