Izzy - 2 year old female English Pointer Cross

Izzy is a little over 2 years old and is an English Pointer cross. She is a delightful, friendly and affectionate girl. Izzy was originally an unclaimed stray at about 10 months old and we had rehomed her to a family with children and another dog. Sadly, after almost a year, they returned her, saying she was a fabulous dog, well behaved and wonderful with the children BUT she had had a couple of scraps with the existing dog over food - well she was so thin when they bought her back we are not at all surprised.

Suffice to say she has, and still is, putting on weight with proper feeding and has not shown any sign of aggression towards other dogs in any situations - including at meal times. Izzy is house-trained, has shown no destructive tendencies, is excellent in the car, walks well on a lead and is generally very obedient. She loves children and mixes very well with other dogs. She has not been cat tested.

Chas - 8 year old male Golden Retriever

Chas is an 8 year old Golden Retriever male. Sadly, his Dad died and he went to live with some family members. Unfortunately the family broke down and he was left with the daughter-in-law and her children, but she just couldn’t manage and hence Chas needs a home with a family who have the time and resources to care for him properly. Chas is house-trained, excellent on and off a lead and an ace traveller.

He is excellent with children and is used to living with little ones. He is brilliant with other dogs and he also seems happy with cats. Chas has only one hang-up: he is nervous of slippery floors i.e. tiled, lino or laminated ones. What this means is that he will hesitate to walk on them and when he does it’s like Bambi on the ice! We have no idea why he has this fear - at first we thought it was kitchens that worried him, but it seems it is the type of floor - maybe he slipped badly at some time in the past?

If you have these sort of floors non slip mats, strategically placed, will help him till he realises they are not about to turn into moving staircases.

Jilly and Meg - 4 year old female Bichon Frises

Jilly is 4 years old and Meg is 6 and they are both Bichon Frises. These girls are ex-breeding bitches, although neither has been excessively bred from. They are friendly girls and once they get to know you are an absolute delight with tap dances at mealtimes and very affectionate.

Jilly is unsure about some men. Both girls have been used to children, though I think noisy babies or boisterous toddlers and children would be a bit much. They are both used to living with cats. House training is coming on well, but help and supervision is still needed.

They walk on a lead and are both fine in the car too. Jilly and Meg need homes either together or with other dogs to show them the ropes and instil confidence.

Evie - 4 year old female Lurcher cross Saluki

Evie is around 4 years old and she is a Saluki based Lurcher, an unclaimed stray and is an absolute delight. Sadly Evie has lost a back leg. It has been surgically removed, we don’t know why or when it happened, but is all healed up and clearly happened some time ago. Evie is incredibly affectionate and adores people.Typically for a Lurcher she chooses the best bed and makes herself at home wherever she goes.

Evie gets on well with other dogs BUT is a bit of a Diva and can become very dominant and gets very bossy if allowed to. She would be best homed as an only dog, or with a non lurcher male, to avoid this kind of conflict. Evie can run like the wind, but her biggest bugbear is dogs who can run faster than her, though few can manage this!!

Toby - 8 month old male Jack Russell Terrier

Toby is an absolutely delightful, 8 month old, tri-colour, short-legged Jack Russell Terrier. Toby has sadly had to come into rescue because his owners have had to have a change of accommodation and are now unfortunately unable to keep pets.

Toby is an utter poppet - he is great with kids, cats and other dogs, travels well and is house-trained. Could Toby be the Terrier for you?

Ria - 11 month old female Australian Kelpie

Ria was born on 4th September 2007. She was adopted from a local pound as a Collie cross. Unfortunately for her family, who loved her dearly, she grew into an Australian Kelpie! For those who are not familiar with the breed, they are Australian sheep dogs and bred to work the vast sheep stations. Now, Kelpies need a lot of stimulation and exercise for the brain as well as the body.

Ria’s family were lovely and have done a great job with her so far: she is excellent with people, children, cats and with other dogs too, but does herd them in a multi-dog situation, with a bit of ankle nipping - Kelpie style - to hurry them along!

However, her previous owners’ lifestyle and energy levels didn’t match Ria’s so she is now seeking another family to carry on where they left off with extras! She will need at least regular attendance at training classes, and lots of walks, but ideally someone who would like to do agility.”

Sam - 2 year old Labrador Retriever cross Collie

Another lovely young boy, Sam is 2 years old. He was described to us as a Retriever cross Collie ( I think the Retriever is Labrador Retriever). Sam had been taken to the vets as a last resort to be destroyed by his very elderly owners who simply couldn’t cope with a young bouncy dog and had been unable to secure him a rescue space, when fate stepped in and now the handsome lad is with us.

Sam is house-trained, very affectionate and sociable. He is pretty obedient too, but would definitely benefit from some classes to add the polish and build a bond with his new owners.

Sam mixes well with other dogs, loves to play, but can be a bit of a pest insisting the game isn’t over and hassling them to play some more. This is getting better as regular exercise that is appriopriate to his needs kicks in. Sam travels well in the car and would be happy to live with another dog/s.

He is perhaps a little bouncy for toddlers unused to dogs, but would be a super family dog, would love to learn to play football, go camping & roll in the mud with the kids! He is not for those who work full time however. I also feel that with a little work, Sam could happily live with cats.

Blake - 8 year old male Rhodesian Ridgeback Cross

Blake is 8 years young - going on 3 years I reckon! He is a male Rhodesian Ridgeback cross who has lived with a family for 4 years, prior to that he had 3 homes - all forces families I believe, so presumably postings abroad caused him to be moved on. The owner is stationed in Qatar now, his wife living with her parents. She can’t cope with him, plus her dad won’t have dogs in the house, so for 5 months he has lived in the garden and been very unhappy.

Blake is house-trained, good with children and other dogs, though can be a bit bolshy if on a lead. He likes to chase cats, squirrels & pigs! Blake is a bit of a hunter, so care needs to be taken when he is let off lead. Training classes to work on his recall, with distractions present, are strongly recommended.

His owner described him as; cheeky, comical and lots of fun, very, very intelligent with a gentle nature and loves running, walking , swimming and playing with other dogs. He is a fabulous dog and will be a wonderful addition to a family. He will need 6 ft fencing, as, during his exclusion from the family, he did try and find company and would probably have a wonderful time chasing things if he escaped from home.
Blake is a delight to live with: he is clean, quiet, non destructive, affectionate and playful. He is everyone’s friend, welcomes all the new dogs in and shows them around.

Archie - 1 year old male Collie Pointer Spaniel cross

Archie is aged 1 year and I think that he may be a Collie/Pointer/Spaniel cross - hence so much beauty and brains in one dog! Archie is a fabulous boy. He came in direct from a family home and is used to older children. Archie is sociable with all other dogs - big, small, young, old, male or female - and loves to run and play.

He would enjoy any sort of training and certainly has the brains, speed and physique for agility. He is house trained and has not been destructive. Come on folks show this wonderful dog what his life should be like.
