Luke – 10 year old male Corgi cross German Spitz

Hello, my name is Luke, I’m a 10 year old male, Corgi and Spitz Crossbreed. I came at the The Mayhew when my owners moved to a new home and could not take me with them.

As I had spent all my life with them I was very bewildered at first but felt a lot better when I made friends with my kennelmate, another golden oldie called Coco. I am now in a foster home and my foster mum says that I am a perfect gent. I settled down very quickly and although I like company, I stay out of the way and don’t demand attention if my foster mum has things to do. That said I do love a good cuddle and really enjoy being brushed and groomed. I am very welcoming with visitors, and I don’t bark when people come to the house. I just roll on my back for a good old tummy rub. I am also very clean in the house and can be left for up to three to four hours without causing any problems. Although I love a good snooze as much as the next dog I am always up for a walk. I am very well-behaved on lead and walk to heel and never pull. I love to explore in the park and don’t wander too far away. I am also very polite and friendly with other dogs although a little wary at first and I enjoy travelling in the car.

I am very sprightly for my age and full of energy – but the good calm kind not the annoying boisterous sort! I have a mild heart murmur which doesn’t require any medication. I am now looking for a loving retirement home and would be happiest with new owners who will give me one hour of off lead exercise every day, along with the home comforts a dog my age deserves. I am the ideal dog for first time owners and could happily live with another dog. I would also be happy to live with cats. I am looking for a home without young children although older kids who wouldn’t pester me would be fine. My foster mum says that I am a well-behaved, good looking and friendly old boy who will make a loving and loyal companion

I hope to see you soon, Luke

Patch – 2 year old male Fox Terrier Cross

Hello, my name is Patch, I’m a 2 year old, male Fox Terrier Cross. I arrived at The Mayhew after being found abandoned on the streets of London.

I’m a sweet natured boy. I greet everyone with a waggy tail and I like to roll over to have my tummy stroked. I love nothing more than sitting with one of my carers while they shower with me affection. I’m good with children but I’ve not yet been tested with little ones, so for now I’d like to find a home where any children in the household are over six years of age. I get along well with most dogs but I can be dominant towards some, however now I’ve been neutered I’m starting to relax around dogs I’ve not met before. I would be happy to live with another dog providing our introductions went well.

I love to play and I enjoy my walks, my guardians will be expected to give me a minimum of one hour of off lead exercise daily in a park or open space. It’s not yet known how long I can be left on my own for, so at the moment I’m looking for a home where someone is around for most of the day. Someone who has owned dogs before and has researched my breed type. Due to my young age they will be expected to take me to training classes, which I know I’ll enjoy as I’m a smart boy and I’m eager to please. My new guardians will be taking on a twelve year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon, Patch

Tia – 4 year old female Bull Mastiff

Hello, my name is Tia and I’m a 4 year old female, Bullmastiff. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner felt she no longer had the time to care for me properly.

When I first arrived I was a little shy and withdrawn but it didn’t take long for me to come out of my shell. I’ve now made lots of friends at The Mayhew and I enjoy spending time in the adoption officer’s office during the day, where I get to meet lots of different people. I’m usually too lazy to get out of my bed to greet strangers but for people I’ve met before I always make the effort to get up and greet them politely. I am a calm, quiet and gentle girl and I’m also eager to please. I have been well trained and I know all the usual commands.

I’m looking for a new home with someone who has a lot of love to offer me. I’m very affectionate and love spending time with people. I would be suitable for a first time owner who is looking for a large breed dog providing you are fully prepared for the hard work and commitment involved in caring for a dog and you will need to have researched my breed type. I would also suit someone who worked fulltime providing I’m not left alone for longer than four hours without a break e.g. by hiring a dog walker, pet sitter, or by coming home at lunch time etc. I would be happy to live children of any age, other dogs and cats. I won’t ask for much just plenty of love and an hour’s off lead exercise daily in a park or open space. My new guardians will be taking on a ten year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon, Tia

Cooper – 4 month old male Jack Russell Terrier

Hello, my name is Cooper
I am a four month old, male Jack Russell Terrier puppy. I was brought to The Mayhew after being found abandoned. I am now learning lots of good things, I’m getting the hang of toilet training quickly because I’m taken out to the garden every couple of hours and given lots of praise when I do my business out there. My carers say I am a little bundle of energy but I do calm down once I’ve had a good run around the garden. I have been microchipped and neutered, and I’ve just had my first vaccination, in a few weeks I can have my second vaccination and start going out and about socialising with other dogs, in the mean time my carers carry me outside so I can get used to strangers and learn about the big outdoors. I have learnt to sit for a treat, which I take very gently, and to come when called. I want to kiss everyone who comes into my cabin but my carers ignore me at first and only pay attention to me once I’m calm, so I’m learning quickly not to jump up and how to say ‘hello’ politely. Like any puppy I’m full of mischief. If I pick up something I shouldn’t I will swap it for one of my favourite chews when my carers tells me to. My favourite time is when one of my carers sits in my cabin with me and we watch TV together. I am a real cuddle-bum but once it is time to go to sleep I settle down quietly in my bed. I love playing games with my toys and will happily play on my own but much prefer it when my carers join in. I was very mouthy at first but as everyone here gives a loud yelp when I nipped, I’m learning to just give puppy licks and kisses. I know I still have things to learn but I am a very smart boy so it won’t take me very long to perfect my doggy manners.

I am looking for a new home with someone who will make sure I get two gentle, thirty minute, off lead socialisation outings per day whilst I’m still young, building up to a minimum of one to two hours of off lead exercise daily once I’m fully grown. My new guardians will be at home for most of the day, will have owned dogs before and will enrol me in training classes. I can live with another dog providing they have been well trained, are calm and will be a good role model for me. Due to my young age and training needs any children in my new home will need to be at least seven years of age and upwards. My new guardians will be taking on a fifteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly. My carers are very proud of me and say I will make a great family dog.

Mannie – 3 year old male Flatcoated Retriever cross Labrador

Hello, my name is Mannie
I’m a three year old, male Flatcoated Retriever and Labrador crossbreed. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner decided to take on a full time job which meant I was being left all alone for nine hours a day. I’m a very gentle soul, calm, well behaved and responsive to commands. I’m toilet trained, walk well on my lead and I’m well behaved off lead. My carers here say I have the manners of a gentleman. I arrived at The Mayhew suffering from demodectic mange which has now been treated by having medicated baths. It won’t be long before my skin is completely better. I am very sociable and I get along very well with everyone I meet, including children of all ages. I also get on very well with other dogs and I like cats too, although if a cat runs away from me I can’t resist chasing them.

Due to my love of people and company I don’t cope very well being left on my own, so I’d like to find a home with someone who is around for most of the day. A family who will give me lots of love and attention, and will take me out for a minimum of an hour of off lead exercise daily in a park or open space. I love to dance with people, so if you could do this activity with me every so often I’d appreciate it too. I also love to play fetch. I would happily live with young children, other dogs and/or a dog confident cat. I will make a loyal and loving addition to any family. My new guardians will be taking of a ten year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

Maisie – 8 year old female Tibetan Terrier

Hello, my name is Maisie
I am an eight year old, female Tibetan Terrier. I am a very special dog who was found abandoned on the streets of London. I have been severely neglected most of my life and lost a leg at a very early age. When I arrived at the Mayhew I had to have all my fur shaved off because it was so matted, the photo of me here is after my temporary shave to make me feel more comfortable. I’ve now had a professional clip so look much prettier. I am now in a foster home and my foster mum says that I am a placid and undemanding girl and so quiet that you could almost forget I was there. I spend a lot of my day snoozing on the sofa and like a lot of elderly ladies I can be quite forgetful but I always remember when it is mealtime because I love my food. I am very clean in the house and have already worked out how to use the cat flap to get out into the garden for a peaceful potter around. Although I only have three legs, it doesn’t stop me from enjoying my walks. I can comfortably manage an hour of gentle exercise a day although I need to take it in 30 minute stretches as I can get quite tired. I love being in the park and despite being quite deaf I can be trusted off-lead as I always stay close by. I don’t pay any attention to other dogs but have settled down nicely in my foster home with my doggy housemate Alfie and Lucy, the cat. I am really no trouble and I can manage to get up and downstairs by myself. I can be left alone for a couple of hours without any problems and travel well in the car curled up on the back seat.

I am now looking for a safe and secure forever home with special people who will simply enjoy having me around and will give me plenty of time to build a bond as I am an independent little soul and don’t like a lot of fuss. Although I am good with everybody and could live with children providing they did not pester me, I am not for a busy noisy household. My ideal owner would probably be an older person or retired couple. I could live with another dog if they were gentle with me and I would not mind sharing my new home with a cat. As I am on medication for a heart murmur, which costs between £20 to £30 a month, my new owners would have to be financially secure. So if you have a little room on your sofa and in your heart for a brave little girl, please come and see me soon.
