Maggie – 7 year old female Lurcher

Maggie is a seven year old Lurcher. She came to us after her owner of six years could no longer keep her. She has been passed around since then, spending time at another home kennelled with other dogs and then put into boarding kennels before arriving with us. Maggie is understandably fed up and wondering what’s happened to the life she was used to.

She is a lovely sweet girl and just wants the simple things in love, somebody who will finally love her and give her the security she craves and a warm bed and company. Maggie loves human company and to be stroked, she would be quite happy as an only dog or with a quieter male dog for company. She has been a little worried by some of the more confident dogs she has met, we’re assuming this is down to bad experiences prior to her coming to us, but on the whole she is quite playful with most dogs.

Maggie has also been worried by a couple of men she’s met whilst in our care, again we think is down to past experiences however, with gentle strokes and knowing everything is okay, she has come around quickly and enjoyed their attention.

Maggie walks well on the lead but is not cat friendly. She is housetrained and will settle overnight by herself. She can be left at home for a few hours without a problem and enjoys travelling and settles down well on car journeys. This little lady has been through the mill and been passed around before coming into our care. All she wants is a home where she can stay for good and one where she will be loved.

Maggie is vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and flead and wormed. She can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a succesful homecheck.

Albie – 5 month old male Lurcher

Albie meaning ‘Noble and Famous’ is a five month old Lurcher pup. Albie was abandoned and nobody claimed him so he came into our care. Albie is a very bright puppy and can soon get into typical puppy mischief! Everybody who meets Albie immediately falls in love, he has oodles of charisma and charm and is a very happy and affectionate little chap.

Albie certainly needs a home where he can exercise his brain as well as his body. We would ask anybody looking to adopt him to take him to puppy training classes to keep both his mind active and to continue with socialisation and training to ensure he turns into a well rounded and well mannered adult.

Albie is currently in foster with five other hounds, both male and female. he loves to run about and play with the other hounds, he can be boisterous at play but does listen when the older dogs tell him off. He is exceedingly clever and willing to learn and does pick things up he’s taught very easily. Albie is housetrained, he has had a couple of accidents whilst in foster however, his fosterer says on both occasions it has been her fault rather than Albie’s when she hasn’t let him out in time. His fosterer describes him as a lovely little chap who brightens her day, it’s hard not to smile with Albie around!

Albie’s ideal home would be with other hounds or dogs he can run and play with and a family who are around all, or most of the time as he is a puppy. He is growing at a rate of knots and is going to be quite a big boy as he matures.

Albie is microchipped, vaccinated, flead and wormed. Albie is not yet neutered but at the age of approximately nine months this must be done and confirmation will be required that he has been neutered as stated in our adoption agreement. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a succesful homecheck.

Charlie – 4 year old male Greyhound

Charlie is a four year old ex racing Greyhound. He came to us after sustaining an injury to his leg muscle meaning he could no longer run as a racing dog. Charlie is currently in kennels and would dearly love either a foster or permanent home to call his own. He is quite a big chap, weighing nearly forty kilos at racing weight but he is a delightful boy both with people and other dogs, he adores other Greyhounds, particularly lady Greyhounds! Initially when he comes out of kennels he can be bouncy, but he does settle down and even though he is a big chap, he isn’t a problem to walk on the lead. Anybody wishing to adopt him, must keep him on the lead for the next six months due to the Gracilis muscle injury he sustained. Longer lead walks and regular exercise to keep the muscle supple will enable the muscle to fully heal, after the six months he can be slowly introduced to off lead exercise again.

Charlie is fine with other dogs both big and small but is not cat or small furry friendly. He loves his food and just wants a comfy sofa to retire on. Charlie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a succesful homecheck.

Poppy – 4 year old female Greyhound

Poppy is a four year old Greyhound. She had a very brief racing career and lived in a home for around eighteen months prior to arriving in our care. Poppy was a quiet dog at first and quite reserved when it came to people. Now she knows she is safe, her personality is developing by the day and being a typical Greyhound, she loves to be fussed and is turning into a lovely little lady. She is currently in foster with four whippets, both male and female and a five month old lurcher pup without any issues. Her fosterer describes her as the easiest dog to have in the house, clean from the first day and very well behaved. She settles by herself if her fosterer goes out and sleeps well overnight.

Poppy is able to go off lead in sensible places, but she is a keen dog and will run after furries so care must be taken when she is let off lead, it must be a suitable, safe place. Off lead must only be done after a couple of months when Poppy has become settled with her new owners. Her lead walking manners at first showed she may not have been lead walked much, but she has learnt fast and isn’t a problem on the lead now unless she sees a cat for example and she can become quite excitable in a typical Sighthound way!

Poppy would live quite happily as an only dog or with other canine company. She just wants to be warm, comfortable and fed and would dearly love a home to call her own before Christmas. Poppy is vaccinated, microchipped, flead and wormed. She recently came into season so can’t be spayed as yet so she will have to come back to our vets, or an appointment made at a vets local to her adopters when she can be spayed. The rescue will cover her spay costs.

Poppy can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a succesful homecheck.

Fly – 3 year old male Lurcher

Fly is a lurcher and is approximately three years old. He came to us from a stray pound, nobody claimed him and he came into our care. Fly is an absolute sweetheart and a delight to have around. He is quite a shy boy and is very gentle and exceedingly loving. He adores being around his people. We think Fly would like a quieter home with adults/older children as he does like to have quiet time when he’s tired, he doesn’t like raised voices, we presume because of bad experiences prior to him coming to us.

Fly is a typical hound, he’s quite a lazy boy and likes to sleep most of the day but does love his walks. He is housetrained, being virtually clean from the first day – he just had a couple of accidents overnight the first two nights and has been clean since. He was at first quite wary of the other dogs in his foster home, two more male lurchers and a male collie, but his confidence has come on in leaps and bounds and he’s just starting to play. He would do well as an only dog or with a quieter gentle companion as he is a little worried by boisterous dogs and tends to just sit it out if the play gets rougher or noisy.

He is quite a different boy offlead, and loves to belt around full speed and do gorgeous little tigger bounces when he gets giddy! His recall is superb, he comes back to whistle and doesn’t go far away from his person. He absolutely loves playing chase with other hounds. Fly also loves toys, something he has discovered since going into foster and will quite happily play with balls and soft toys on his own, although he like the toys to be thrown or tossed even more! He is incredibly obedient and dying to please so we think that he’d really enjoy agility or the likes.

Fly has proved fine to be left for short lengths of time & he loves travelling in the car. Fly is neutered, vaccinated, flead and wormed and microchipped. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.

Red – 7-8 year old male Lurcher

Red is approximately seven to eight years old and is a rough coated lurcher. He came to us as he was no longer wanted and was very timid and quiet on arrival. In his previous home, he lived both indoors and outdoors and had been used to just sleeping on newspaper and concrete, he hadn’t been given a name of his own by his previous owners.

Red has come on amazingly in the month he has been with us but can still be timid around people he doesn’t know. It took around two weeks before he wagged his tail and for him to stop cowering when we went to put his lead on or stroke him, he hasn’t had a brilliant past obviously. He is currently in kennels and we are now greeted by a waggy, happy boy, he has settled and knows he is safe now. He really is a sweet boy who just wants plenty of love, cuddles and a comfy bed and warmth to live out his twilight years. With the cold weather coming, he really needs to be out of kennels and in a warm, loving home.

Red has arthritis in his hips and knees and we are giving him joint supplements to help with this, in the future he may have to have anti-inflamatory medication for his joints, however the rescue will cover costs for this for the rest of his life. The arthritis doesn’t prevent him from walking, he is a sprightly chap when out walking and walks well on the lead. Red travels well, but prefers to sit on the back seat of the car rather than be put in a boot. We put this down to the fact he was brought to us literally shut in a boot so he couldn’t see, he was in the dark and confined and was obviously frightened by the experience.

Red has been fine with all other dogs he has met and could live as an only dog or with another dog or dogs. He has been neutered, had a dental and is vaccinated, flead and wormed and microchipped. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.

Reuben – 6 year old male Greyhound

Reuben or Roo as he is known is a very special six year old Greyhound, he really is the most happy, friendly super boy.He came to us with seven other Greyhounds who had spent the last few years living in a glorified shed. Apart from being given a run in the field, none of them left the shed or have seen life for all that time spending all their time muzzled and stuck in the dark. Each dog had disgraceful teeth and mouth infections including Roo who lost several teeth when he had a dental.

It became apparent that Roo had problems with his eyes which his owner put down to developing cataracts, he was surprisingly unaware that Roo is 98% blind due to retinal damage. This was almost certainly caused by poor living conditions and the poor life he was living for so long. The lack of vision does not stop Roo living life to the full, he manages exceedingly well, in fact it is amazing how well he does cope, he uses his other senses to the full and at times it’s hard to believe he has nearly no vision at all.
He has been in foster for two months with six other sighthounds, both male and female without issue, he mixes well and loves being with other dogs. He has gained a lot of confidence and loves his food, walks, comfy beds and sofas which he had never experienced before going into foster. Roo travels well too, and gets in and out of vehicles without a problem.

Roo is clean in the house and is a generally quiet, settled boy. He walks well on the lead, at first he would bump into legs as he wasn’t used to being on a lead but he is now lead walking without a problem. He also copes very well off the lead going round the field at his fosterers home as he did when he was initially let out of the shed he had been living in. It is very much a case of him familiarizing himself with an area, or field before being let offlead, and we would prefer any offlead time to be done in a secure area because of his lack of vision.

Roo’s ideal home would be with another dog, or dogs who can keep him company as he loves to be with other dogs. A home with dog companionship would also help him to continue gaining in confidence. Even though Roo can’t see, certain sounds and smells make him alert, so we wouldn’t home him with cats and small animals.

We can’t say enough good things about this boy, he really is a lovely boy, quiet and very affectionate and just so happy when he is given attention, his tail wags furiously when he is given fuss. If you could offer Roo the very special home he deserves please contact us.

Roo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.

Spiral – 10 year old male Greyhound

Spiral is a ten year old ex Racing Greyhound. Unfortunately Spiral’s owner could no longer keep him so he has come into our care. Spiral is currently in foster with four whippets both male and female who he gets along without a problem. He has met some of our other hounds and other dogs out on his walks without issue, in fact he loves all other dogs and their company.

Spiral has slept through every evening since going into foster without whining and has been clean overnight, he’s happy just to roach on his duvet through the night. He hasn’t had any accidents at all in the home and can be left without problems. He loves his food and strolls and walks perfectly on lead, you really don’t know you have him on the lead at all. He can also go off lead, he stays very near and just sniffs and potters about.

Spiral’s fosterer describes him as the perfect house guest and a gentleman who just wants his walks, his food and a comfy bed to sleep on. Spiral would love a forever home where he can finally settle and spend his senior years with the love and comfort he so deserves. Spiral is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a succesful homecheck.

Raffie – 2 year old male Whippet cross Lurcher

Raffie is approximately two years old and is a whippet cross Lurcher. He is a very sweet, gentle boy who likes nothing better than to snuggle up on the couch with you – cuddles are his favourite thing in the world! He was initially quite shy when he arrived here but soon came out of his shell and started asking for affection and playing.

This boy has been through the mill a bit, he was very withdrawn and emaciated when he came to us, so he is still sometimes a little shy initially when meeting new people but it but it doesn’t take him long now to come round and ask for strokes! He is a very playful boy that loves to interact with both people and dogs, but he is wary of dogs that run at him or are too boisterous. He is currently in foster with 3 other male dogs without an issue. He would definitely prefer a gentler doggie friend to play chase with or he would be suitable as an only dog. Raffie would prefer a quieter household.
Raffie is housetrained, can be left for short periods without issue, travels well and in general, he’s a total sweetie. His manners in the home are impeccable. He is also potentially cat workable.

His lead manners do still need some work as he tends to pull, more so in new places. His new family would have to continue the lead work and continue taking him to new places to increase his confidence as he is sometimes unsure in new situations.

He has however been fundraising with us and is quite happy to receive attention and watch the world go by.
Raffie is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, flead and wormed and can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.

Lucky – 10 year old male Greyhound cross Lurcher

Lucky is a ten year old male Greyhound Cross/Lurcher. He came into our care as his family could no longer keep him and is a very sad boy at the moment, missing his family and home where he had lived for the last nine years. He was originally rescued as a youngster with his brother and sister who were left behind after travellers moved on. All of them were very poorly pups, covered in mange and emaciated and it’s very sad that again, in his senior years, he is again homeless.

Lucky is currently in foster with four whippets, both male and female who he is living with without a problem. He has also met some of our other hounds without issue however, he really doesn’t like dogs running up to him and bouncing about and he can be grumpy with dogs he doesn’t know on walks. If he is given the chance to walk with dogs who are on leads, he is fine with them. He is just worried by strange dogs running at him. Lucky has slept through every evening since going into foster without whining and has been clean overnight, he prefers to sleep downstairs on his bed. On the first day he was left, he was very stressed and did cry and had a couple of accidents, but after only 24 hours in a new home, we couldn’t expect anything else. Since then, he has been fine when left and there has been no whining or accidents.

Lucky’s ideal home would be as an only dog or with a quieter dog or dogs and he is fine with children. Lucky would just love some small walks every day, a comfy bed and somebody to help mend his broken heart, he really shouldn’t be homeless at his time of life. Lucky is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally, dependent on a succesful homecheck.
