Belle – 1-2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Beautiful little Belle, red staffie spayed female. Belle was on death row at the pound having very recently just had pups. Her pups were not with her at the pound. Belle is now in foster care in the Swindon, Wilts area. She is the sweetest little darling girl, very affectionate, and loving, adores cuddling! Belle has had such a traumatic time in her little life, at aged around 2 years old, she would love to be someone’s special girl, and be given the love she so deserves.

Belle is very good with other dogs, and we think she could live with a cat, as she went to run after a cat recently but the cat stood his ground and Belle just said “oh ok then!” turned, and walked away. Belle could live with older children, preferably of teen age. We don’t rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old. This is because our dogs are all ex pound dogs and we have no history on them before they come to us.

Belle travels very well, she’s non destructive when left for short periods, and she her foster carer says she is such a good girl, by far the best dog she has fostered. This lovely girl has so much love to give and has a heart of gold.

If you think you could give Belle the loving forever home she is looking for,

Poppy – 1-2 year old female Boxer cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Poppy is a speyed Boxer cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier (we think!) girl, aged approxmitately 1-2 years old. The Boxer in her is definitely the prominent breed as you can see from her photos. Poppy came to us from a pound, she was found wandering the streets by a member of the public and she almost got hit by a car. When she was found she had obviously had pups no more than two weeks previously, but she was found alone without her puppies :(

Poppy was in a poor state when she went into foster care but she has made such excellent progress. She has gained weight and blossomed into the beautiful dog she is now. She is an absolute joy to our foster carers, who would keep her if they could! Poppy is extremely affectionate, she is also full of character and fun. Her foster carers have expressed many times how much joy and laughter Poppy has brought to the family.

Poppy is fine with other dogs and could live with a male dog. However we are looking for a home without cats or small furries for Poppy as she would want to chase cats and smaller animals. Poppy could also be homed to a family with teen aged children. She is quite a big, strong girl and therefore she would be too big for young children. Poppy would do best in a home with someone who enjoys lots of walks and the outdoors, she has lots of energy and although she isn’t a ‘dizzy busy’ dog in the home, she thoroughly enjoys the outdoors and plenty of space and walks.

She would also love to be with someone who has experience with dogs, not for any negative reasons, but just because she needs someone who understands dogs to guide her and reassure her. In our foster carer’s words “Poppy loves attention above all else… Cuddle her and the world is a better place! When we come down in the morning, she’s hilarious… she grins and grins and grins and wags and makes HUGE LOUD yawns. Whoever takes her on will be taking on an enormous character”

POPPY IS IN FOSTER CARE IN THE GUILDFORD, SURREY AREA.

If you think you could give Poppy the loving forever home she is looking for,

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form.

Betsy – 1-2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Hello, my name is Betsy. I am a speyed white Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and I’m aged between 1 & 2 years old. I absolutely love people, and I love nothing more than snuggling up and having a really close cuddle! I am a such a loving girl, everyone who has met me has fallen in love with me. Though I haven’t let this go to my head! ;)

I love my best friend, Harvey, he’s a male Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he loves me too. I get on well with female dogs too, but I must say, I do like living with a boy dog!

I get on fine with cats. I probably wouldn’t want to snuggle up with a cat particularly but I’m not interested in harassing cats or chasing them, I just let them get on with their own thing. I don’t take much notice of them. I have lived with older children of teen age, and I am looking for a home where if there are children, they are older, (preferably teenaged) only because I do like to have fun and like any dog, I sometimes have a ‘mad’ five minutes, but I could knock over a small child by accident, and I wouldn’t want to do that! I am housetrained, and I like travelling in the car. I have such a lot of love to give and people say I’m incredibly sweet, that’s because I love people so much

I have had a very difficult life so far. I was abandoned at a pound and I was on death row. Then I went to a home and they didn’t want me anymore because I chewed stuff when I was there. I didn’t mean to, I was just stressed and unhappy. The rescue know now that I wouldn’t normally do that had I been happy! They know that because I haven’t chewed one single thing since I’ve been in the foster home I’m in now.

Love Betsy xxxx

BETSY IS IN FOSTER CARE IN HONITON, DEVON. WE WOULD PREFER A HOME IN THE SOUTHWEST AREA, BUT WE WILL CONSIDER REHOMING TO OTHER AREAS, IF YOU’RE PREPARED TO GO AND MEET BETSY.

If you think you could give Betsy the loving forever home she so deserves,

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form.

Merlin – 3-4 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Merlin is a beautiful black Staffordshire Bull Terrier aged between 3 & 4 years old. He ran out of time at the pound and was due to be put to sleep. Merlin is now in foster care in Exeter, Devon and he is looking for a loving home of his own. Merlin is very good with other dogs and he is a lovely natured, very responsive and clever boy !

Merlin is a fabulous little chap. He’s very good on the lead and always happy to meet other dogs on walks. He is young and has quite a bit of energy, so will need someone who is willing to give him the physical and mental exercise he needs. He’s extremely bright and quick to learn, so if someone puts in some effort with his training he could be a wonder dog!

He knows how to sit and give paw and we’re working on ‘down’ at the moment, which he’s learning very well. He’s still working on taking things gently and can get a bit excited, but if he’s been deprived of treats and toys we can’t blame him for being excited now when he sees them.

Merlin’s non-destructive in the house, has settled well into crate training and loves to snooze all curled up in his bed!Merlin is fine with children, but is still working on some of his impulse control so would need for any children to be old enough to understand not to try to take his toys or fuss him when he is not looking for attention. He does like to chase cats so would need to be in a home without them.

Merlin is fine to be left for a few hours and is happy to snooze in his crate for that time – a good walk and he’s always ready for a nap!

Merlin likes a bit of a scratch or massage, and likes to curl up near you, but isn’t always looking for lots of attention, he can be quite independent. As he gets more used to you he becomes more affectionate; I think this lad just needs a bit of stability as he’s obviously not been given a consistent caring home in the past.

He’ll make a wonderful addition to someone’s family if someone can just give him the love and time he deserves.

MERLIN IS IN FOSTER CARE IN EXETER DEVON

Honey – 2 year old female Cross-Breed

Honey is a beautiful 2 year old (approx) female crossbreed. Honey came to Once Loved Dog Rescue from a pound where she had run out of time and was due to be put to sleep. Honey went into boarding kennels initially and is now in foster care. Her foster carers speak so highly of little Honey. She is extremely sweet natured, affectionate and well behaved. She travels very well, just sits quietly on the back seat of the car, she is house-trained, very responsive and knows her commands. She just wants to please :) She loves to play with her ball and toys and is such a fun-loving but sensible girl.

Honey is excellent with other dogs and just ignores cats, so she could live with dogs and cats. She is also excellent with children, and follows her foster carer’s grand-daughter around when she comes to visit. Although we don’t normally rehome dogs into homes with children under the age of 8 years, Honey could live with younger children aged from 5 years and over. Honey is all round a truly gorgeous girl who is now looking for a home where she will be loved and cared for, for the rest of her life.

Honey is in foster care in the Wootton Bassett, SN4 area.

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form.

Email cathy@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07770 795334 before 7pm please.

Please note, if we are unavailable to take your call, we will call you back, but please leave a landline number where possible. Mobile phones are expensive for us to call back. Thank you.

Teddy – 13 month old male German Shepherd Cross

Teddy is looking for a forever home, or foster home. He is currently still with his adopters, but we need to find somewhere for him to go to ASAP as otherwise he faces having to go into kennels. We feel kennels would be the worst place he could go, as it would cause a lot of stress to this already sensitive young dog.

Teddy is a 13 month old neutered GSD Cross. Teddy was adopted from the rescue 8 months ago but is sadly being returned as his adoptive home have said they can’t cope with him.

Teddy is a beautiful and affectionate boy, but he can get over-excitable and he needs a calm and experienced handler to bring out the best in him. He has been over stimulated in his current home, so he needs someone who has knowledge of dogs of Teddy’s breed and his age, to bring out the best in him. Teddy needs to go to a home as the only dog as he is afraid of other dogs and this causes him to be on the defensive around other dogs. He needs to be kept on lead when out and around other dogs, his current adopters aren’t comfortable with keeping Teddy on lead. Teddy has been taken to training classes with twenty other dogs present. As can be imagined, this has unsettled Teddy further around them, and exacerbated the problem, given that he is afraid of other dogs.

Teddy has ‘mouthed’ fairly strongly a couple of times, but he has not bitten. Again, this is something that an experienced handler could help him with. He is not aggressive in any way towards people, and we can’t stress enough that it was mouthing and not biting. But for this reason, we are looking for a home without children. Teddy would thrive with one person or a couple who don’t have children, he is a very sweet but misunderstood boy who just wants the opportunity to be in a home that was meant to be for him. When he has that home, he will make the most wonderful and loyal companion for someone. Teddy is housetrained, travels well and is not destructive.

Teddy is currently in the Cornwall area, but we can arrange transport.

Henry – 3 year old male Dachshund cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Henry Little Legs is looking for his forever home. Is it yours? Henry Little Legs is a great big character in a teeny body. He is not quite sure what mixture of breeds he is, but his best guess is Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Dachshund, hmmm, or possibly Bassett Hound. Whatever he is crossed with he suits very well. Not quite elevated to the level that he’d have probably liked, but oh how cute do his little legs make him?! Henry was another abandoned dog in the pound on the put to sleep list :( He spent a while in emergency boarding kennels where he was vaccinated and neutered. (Sorry about that Henry, but needs must!) And then it was off to his foster home in sunny Devon.

Sadly, the dogs that Henry is living with aren’t at all impressed with their new house guest and he would like a home where all the family members welcome him, not just the human ones! We are also looking for a foster home for him, so that the dogs in his foster home can have their lives back to normal, without their new house guest, but for Henry’s sake, we are ideally looking for a forever home, so he doesn’t become stressed through moving about too much.

Henry is about 3 or 4 (we think) He is an absolute sweetheart, but he does need someone who has knowledge and experience with staffies, as he needs clear boundaries, as all dogs do! So that he doesn’t elevate above his little legs! We are looking for a home where he won’t be ‘babied’ (though Henry would prefer one where he was babied, we wouldn’t!) Henry is very good with other dogs, as long as no treats, toys or food are around, but he doesn’t get all grumpy around food with humans, only with other dogs, and with dogs, it’s not the kind of grumpy that would lead to all engines firing, ‘in it for the long haul’ attack grumpy, it’s just snappy grumpy. Henry isn’t cat tested, so we are looking for a home without cats. He could live with teenaged, dog savvy children.

Henry is a whole lot of personality for such a little man. He likes to ‘chase’ birds when they’re miles up in the sky, he knows he can’t catch them but gives it 100% anyway. He is very loving, responsive and clever. He’s housetrained, fine in the car, knows how to sit and give paw, and he could no doubt learn all manner of other things with his own person. Henry has so much to give to someone and whoever is destined to be his adopter will have such a funny and loving little best friend.

Rowan – 5-6 year old male Rottweiler

Rowan is a neutered 5-6 year old gentle giant Rottie boy. Rowan has been happily living with a female Rottie, but he is now being returned to rescue after two years in his home, as he and a new dog in the home are not getting along.

Rowan is not good with other dogs generally, but he built up a relationship with the female rottie who was in his home. But Rowan does need a dog/cat and child free home. He is extremely loving with people. I am 5.2″ and there is not much of me, and yet this dog was as gentle as a lamb with me, and he weighed 50 kilos when he came into the rescue.

He needs a dog and cat free home or foster home, and also one without children as though he is lovely with people he is a very big and strong dog. He isn’t good with other dogs and needs someone strong and experienced, but he is an ex poundie, and he has been through so much in his life. He is a big, daft, loving soft lad, who is so very affectionate. He is non destructive, housetrained and travels well. Please can someone help him? Rowan is in the Exeter, Devon area, we would preferably like a forever home or foster home in the southwest, but we can arrange transport to anywhere (within reason).

Ellie – 6 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Ellie is a very pretty white Staffordshire Bull Terrier female who will be 6 this year, in October 2011. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Ellie’s story is sadly an all too familiar one. She was bought by a lady when she was a baby, at the age of 8 weeks old, and all was well, until the lady who bought her met a man who had an older dog of his own. They all moved in together and Ellie’s world became confusing and frightening . The man’s older dog didn’t like young Ellie and instead of positive, nurturing experiences with an older dog, she received exactly the opposite. It became clear that these two dogs could not exist in harmony, so the older dog went to live at a relative’s house. Now, this older dog belonged to the male partner, and he resented little Ellie, even though it was not Ellie’s fault.

Another puppy was brought into Ellie’s home and he was a big, strong, dominant pup who bullied Ellie, this bullying was not discouraged, in fact, it was encouraged and seen as amusing by the man, and Ellie, already confused and afraid, became withdrawn and her world grew even more frightening. The lady who bought her unexpectedly became pregnant and had a child, and then her fears about children and dogs made her nervous, even though Ellie never, ever did anything wrong to the child, the bullying from the growing male pup was continuing and the fights between the two dogs were making the lady’s nervousness worse. These nerves also affected Ellie as it made her nervous too.

Ellie is now in foster care with another relative, and since her move there, she has become happier and much more settled, but this very special girl is understandably nervous due to the chaos and confusion she has endured throughout her life. Ellie is very friendly and affectionate with people and has lived with children all her life. Ellie is scared of other animals, and is very scared of other dogs, unsurprisingly! So we are looking for a home with no other dogs or other animals. Ellie is housetrained, and is non-destructive when left. Ellie does suffer from an allergy to dust mites and storage mites, and she receives immune therapy currently. Ellie will chew her feet when she is stressed also, but we do not think this will continue once she is rehomed and she feels relaxed and content in her life. Ellie does get car sick, but we believe this will be overcome if addressed correctly.

The right home for Ellie would be with someone who understands the effects a traumatic and stressful environment can have on any animal, particularly if things are traumatic when an animal is young. Ellie’s nervousness is also down to the anxiety of her owner, and Ellie would have been picking up on those nerves. We would like to see her in a home where her traumatic past is understood, so that she can be nurtured emotionally in the correct way from now on.

Ellie is currently in foster care in the Hampshire area.

If you can offer a forever home to this very special young lady,

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption or fostering application form.

Email cathy@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07770 795334

Our usual restrictions on not rehoming dogs to children under the age of 8 years old do not apply in Ellie’s case

Roxanne – 2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Roxanne originally came to us from a pound where she was on the put to sleep list. She came into foster care with us and was an absolute star. She is very responsive and she took to her training with ease and grace. She is housetrained, travels well in the car, and is non destructive. Roxanne is a spayed brindle slim build Staffie cross aged around 2 years old. She is exceptionally pretty and just adores to be cuddled! While she was with us, her favourite pastime was to sit on someone’s lap with her ball in her mouth, and a daft, soppy look on her face. Roxanne is good with other dogs and she is even good with cats! We are looking for a home with older children (we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old).

Roxanne has been good with children, (and will greet them with her whole bottom wagging when she sees them out on walks!) Most of the time she is a calm girl, but like any dog, she does have her boisterous moments, and when she has a mad five minutes, she needs a firm but fair hand to calm her. We feel for this reason, that if she is to be homed with children, she would be best in a home with teenaged children. Roxanne is currently living with a dog, (who is now her best friend) cats, and teenaged children in her foster home.

This dog is an absolute sweetheart and sadly she has had a rough time. We placed her into a foster home, and though the post homechecks we carried out were passed, we unfortunately we got a call from a dog warden to say she had been found wandering the streets. Roxanne is microchipped to Once Loved Dog Rescue, so luckily we were contacted by the warden straight away, but this of course meant that she had to be found yet another foster home.

Roxanne is in foster care in the East Sussex area,TN5
