Ellie – 6 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Ellie is a very pretty white Staffordshire Bull Terrier female who will be 6 this year, in October 2011. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Ellie’s story is sadly an all too familiar one. She was bought by a lady when she was a baby, at the age of 8 weeks old, and all was well, until the lady who bought her met a man who had an older dog of his own. They all moved in together and Ellie’s world became confusing and frightening . The man’s older dog didn’t like young Ellie and instead of positive, nurturing experiences with an older dog, she received exactly the opposite. It became clear that these two dogs could not exist in harmony, so the older dog went to live at a relative’s house. Now, this older dog belonged to the male partner, and he resented little Ellie, even though it was not Ellie’s fault.

Another puppy was brought into Ellie’s home and he was a big, strong, dominant pup who bullied Ellie, this bullying was not discouraged, in fact, it was encouraged and seen as amusing by the man, and Ellie, already confused and afraid, became withdrawn and her world grew even more frightening. The lady who bought her unexpectedly became pregnant and had a child, and then her fears about children and dogs made her nervous, even though Ellie never, ever did anything wrong to the child, the bullying from the growing male pup was continuing and the fights between the two dogs were making the lady’s nervousness worse. These nerves also affected Ellie as it made her nervous too.

Ellie is now in foster care with another relative, and since her move there, she has become happier and much more settled, but this very special girl is understandably nervous due to the chaos and confusion she has endured throughout her life. Ellie is very friendly and affectionate with people and has lived with children all her life. Ellie is scared of other animals, and is very scared of other dogs, unsurprisingly! So we are looking for a home with no other dogs or other animals. Ellie is housetrained, and is non-destructive when left. Ellie does suffer from an allergy to dust mites and storage mites, and she receives immune therapy currently. Ellie will chew her feet when she is stressed also, but we do not think this will continue once she is rehomed and she feels relaxed and content in her life. Ellie does get car sick, but we believe this will be overcome if addressed correctly.

The right home for Ellie would be with someone who understands the effects a traumatic and stressful environment can have on any animal, particularly if things are traumatic when an animal is young. Ellie’s nervousness is also down to the anxiety of her owner, and Ellie would have been picking up on those nerves. We would like to see her in a home where her traumatic past is understood, so that she can be nurtured emotionally in the correct way from now on.

Ellie is currently in foster care in the Hampshire area.

If you can offer a forever home to this very special young lady,

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption or fostering application form.

Roxanne – 2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Roxanne originally came to us from a pound where she was on the put to sleep list. She came into foster care with us and was an absolute star. She is very responsive and she took to her training with ease and grace. She is housetrained, travels well in the car, and is non destructive. Roxanne is a spayed brindle slim build Staffie cross aged around 2 years old. She is exceptionally pretty and just adores to be cuddled! While she was with us, her favourite pastime was to sit on someone’s lap with her ball in her mouth, and a daft, soppy look on her face. Roxanne is good with other dogs and she is even good with cats! We are looking for a home with older children (we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old).

Roxanne has been good with children, (and will greet them with her whole bottom wagging when she sees them out on walks!) Most of the time she is a calm girl, but like any dog, she does have her boisterous moments, and when she has a mad five minutes, she needs a firm but fair hand to calm her. We feel for this reason, that if she is to be homed with children, she would be best in a home with teenaged children. Roxanne is currently living with a dog, (who is now her best friend) cats, and teenaged children in her foster home.

This dog is an absolute sweetheart and sadly she has had a rough time. We placed her into a foster home, and though the post homechecks we carried out were passed, we unfortunately we got a call from a dog warden to say she had been found wandering the streets. Roxanne is microchipped to Once Loved Dog Rescue, so luckily we were contacted by the warden straight away, but this of course meant that she had to be found yet another foster home.

Roxanne is in foster care in the East Sussex area,TN5

Reuben – 2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Reuben is a stunning, deaf, white Staffordshire Bull Terrier boy aged around 2 years old. Reuben was on the put to sleep list at the pound. We were able to give him a rescue space and he is now in foster care in the London, EN5 area.

Reuben is not profoundly deaf and he can hear certain noises. He responds well to hand signals and the fact that he is hard of hearing doesn’t hinder him or make him difficult to look after! He is like any other dog, the only difference would be that his new owner wouldn’t be able to let him off lead in unenclosed areas, as there is always the possibility that he could run off and not hear his name being called.

Reuben is living with two Boston Terriers in his foster home, and he gets on very well with them, he sleeps close to them and plays with them nicely. He can be a little bit of an attention seeker, and will sometimes push the other dogs out of the way when he’s having a fuss made of him, but this is nothing out of the ordinary with many dogs!

We are looking for a home with teen aged children, or no children, as he is a big, strong boy, and he is not keen on young children. Reuben isn’t living with cats presently, and he does seem interested in them when out on walks, but this is often the case with dogs unless a cat lives in the home and the dog can get used to it. But a home without cats would be preferable.

Reuben is a really snuggly boy, who adores his cuddles. He is quick to learn, house-trained and travels well.

Annie – 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Hi my name is Annie, I am a small brindle coloured staffordshire bull terrier with white patches on me too, I think i am about 3 years old (but I dont feel it lol). Im currently in foster care being looked after by my foster Mum and Dad, but I have just one wish and that is to find a forever home with a loving new Mum and Dad.

I do get on very well with my fostered family’s dog, he is a boy dog so I wouldnt mind being with another male dog, although I think I would perfer to be the only dog in the house. Im afraid I dont really get on with cats though so I need to be homed where there are no cats in the house.

I love playing with my toys, and I enjoy going out for long walks in the park or fields. But sometimes though i get a bit excited when playing or seeing new people so I may nibble your fingers but only in a friendly way. I am calming down with this which is good but I will need a little bit more help with this.

I am house trained too, if I need to go to the toilet I will let you know, I generally come and get you and show you to the door so you know what I need. I do really enjoy having a cuddle and love to snuggle into people, it is one of my favourite things to do. I never used to cuddle much but I have been shown a lot of affection and now know what love is and know that it is ok to cuddle people.

I think I would like to go to a home with either no children or older kids, only because I can get over excited.I travel well in the car too, I am nosey and do like to look out the window at new things. If you think you would like to adopt me then please get in touch I have so much love to give my new Mum and Dad
Love Annie xxxxxxxx

Annie is currently being fostered in the Honiton, Devon area EX14. Annie is spayed, fully vaccinated, wormed and de-flead. If you are interested in adopting Annie, please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form. All potential homes will require a pre-homing check and post homechecks.

Tess – 6 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Beautiful Tess was another staffie whose time was ‘up’ at a pound. She went into kennels, and was there for nearly a year! She is now in a foster home. Tess is such a lovely girl, she is waiting for her special person to come and find her and she will love you forever!

Tess is a stunning little girl, so sweet, calm and loving. She is a joy to have around, very friendly and adores human contact, she will give your hand a gentle little nudge if you stop stroking her to let you know she was enjoying that thank you very much! She has been brought up with children in a family home, but we are looking for a home with older children. We do not rehome dogs to homes with children under the age of 8 years old. Unfortunately due to her family separating, she ended up in a pound in danger of being pts – until we stepped in.

Tess is too nice a girl not to be given a new home. She is ok with other dogs as long as they approach politely but she doesnt like bolshy dogs and will snap if she is threatened. We are looking for a home without cats or small furry animals for Tess.

Tess is very calm in the house, she is extremely friendly and gentle, and is a quiet girl. She walks lovely on her lead and enjoys playing football and fetch and having a run around on the grass. Tess has got to the age of 6 (approx) without being taught how to sit, so this is being worked on, but she is such a gorgeous girl, and all she wants to do is please. Tess damaged her eye some time ago, but it has been treated, and just makes one of her eyes cloudy. No further veterinary treatment will be needed for this.

Tess is spayed, vaccinated, wormed, and up to date with flea treatment, neutered, microchipped.

Tess is being fostered in the Exeter, Devon area EX5

Alfie – 2-3 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

This very handsome lad is called Alfie. He is a neutered 2-3 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross. How could anyone resist those eyes?! What a stunner! Alfie is a very affectionate boy who loves his cuddles and tummy tickles. He came to us from a pound where he was on the ‘put to sleep’ list and he is now in foster care and doing extremely well. Alfie could live with cats, as he is currently living with cats in his foster home.

http://www.imagepuppy.com/resized/9369dd8e46bfe322bac8171660d367da.jpg

Although he seems interested in chasing cats not known to him, he won’t chase the cat he lives with, so he could live with a bold cat who isn’t deterred by dogs. Alfie gets on well with the two other dogs in his foster home, but he will need to be rehomed with someone experienced when introducing other dogs he doesn’t know. He has never ’started’ anything, but he will stand up for himself if another dog were to start something. Alfie is crate trained and he is also no problem to be left for sensible periods of time. He loves to give kisses and really loves a fuss! He has come on amazingly well since he has been in foster care. He is very bright and clever and is responding very well to training. He’s not a ‘busy’ dog and is laid back and relaxed. He travels well in the car too. Alfie is a gorgeous boy who, after being abandoned at a pound, deserves a happy life in a loving forever home. He will make a wonderful friend and loyal companion to someone.

Alfie is being fostered in Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12. Although we would like his forever home to be in the south west, we are happy to consider other areas for the right home.

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form. Email cathy@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07847 297058. Please note, all prospective homes will be required to have a pre homing check and post home checks. We do not rehome any dogs to homes with children under the age of eight years old.

Jinx – 8 month old male German Shepherd Dog

Meet Jinx, an absolutely gorgeous 8 month old GSD cross pup who is looking for a family of his own to love him forever. Jinx came from a litter of pups whose owner was not looking after the pups properly. As is so often the story, Jinx had not been wormed or vaccinated and he was very underweight when he came into the care of Once Loved Dog Rescue. After he was wormed and vaccinated, he found a home with a family who had a small child. The child had an illness which meant she had to have tubes attached to her 24 hours a day. Jinx was gentle and kind with the child from their very first meeting and the family decided to adopt Jinx.

Sadly for Jinx, six months on, the family failed to teach Jinx not to jump up, no pup knows not to jump up unless taught! So it wasn’t this pup’s fault! One day Jinx jumped up in greeting to the child and pulled one of her tubes out. The family told us they could not risk that happening again as it put the child’s health at risk, so Jinx is now back in our care and looking for a home where he can stay forever.

Jinx is currently in kennels in the Cambridge area, and it really is such a shame for him as a young pup to be in kennels! The lady who transported him from where he was staying to the kennels has said he is such a gorgeous boy, so loving and sweet natured. He is quite bouncy, but he is a young boy and just needs the right training to show him what he needs to do!

Jinx is good with other dogs, but of course introducing any new dog needs to be done slowly and carefully! We are looking for a home without cats as we are not sure how Jinx will be with them. Jinx adores children, but we are looking for a home with older children.

This is a report from the lady who transported him to kennels, she has been going to see Jinx and taking him out for walks..

*I have been to see Jinx today and we spent nearly an hour playing in the field and I hated leaving him behind. He is such a lovely boy who just wants to be loved and have someone of his own to love back with a home to call his own . He is such a sweetie and eager to learn and very quick to pick things up he is wasted sitting in kennels. Someone out there has been looking for a dog like him to make their life complete :)

Jinx is currently in kennels in the Cambridge area.

Daisy – 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Daisy is an incredibly beautiful, loving and caring girl, who is absolutely amazing with children. She adores children, and is so gentle and kind and sweet with them.

Daisy is an ex poundie who was featured in The Daily Mail’s May 1st 2010 article about Death Row Dogs. She has been in her home since June 2010 but a marriage break up has meant that Daisy is looking for a new home. Daisy is good with other dogs, but not cats!

Due to a phantom pregnancy that was recurring, Daisy needs to be spayed in December 2010. If she is not rehomed before we stop our rehoming for the Christmas period, she will be spayed at her current home. Daisy is a special girl who deserves a special home where she can stay forever.

Here is Daisy’s report from her current home…

“Daisy was a perfect family pet as soon as she got in the door. Daisy is house trained, not fussy with food, but she does love her meat and can over eat. The vet would like her to loose 2kg. She loves my 2 girls (2yrs and 4yrs) most of all, as they treat her like a sister and always involve her with their games. Daisy has been well trained, but I believe she was punished a lot in her last home. If you tell her off she shakes and lies on the floor. She barks when someones at the door then licks them to death when they come in.”

Daisy IS NOT a guard dog! She’s not a noisey dog but she does snore! Her health is good apart from allergies which she has in the summer. The vet puts her on piriton. Daisy also suffers from sores between her toes which is part of the allergy. This is treated with salt water. Occasionally she has a special dog shampoo for dry skin. Also part of the allergy. Daisy is due to be spayed mid December. My family is going through a divorce and it’s a very hard time for everyone. Daisy should not suffer because of us and needs a family who will cherish her for the rest of her life. She will never let you down. Daisy is the perfect dog.”

Daisy is based in Tyne and Wear DH5. Although she is a long way from where our rescue is based, we would like Daisy to be rehomed as close to where she is now as possible.

Please contact Cathy at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form.
Email cathy@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07847 297058

Please note, all prospective homes will be required to have a pre homing check and post home checks. Our usual restrictions on not rehoming dogs to children under the age of 8 years old do not apply in Daisy’s case.
