Austin

Austin is a really lovely dark brindle Greyhound boy and is now 8 years old. He has a problem in the fact that he has Epilepsy, though he has no need for medication at the moment but this may become necessary in future years. His fits are really at a minimum at the moment in fact I think he has only had four in two years and they are getting shorter each time.

rgtea_austin.jpg

He is a lot less stressed indoors with us and we can see when a fit is coming and we cuddle him and talk to him all the time and he seems to recover much quicker. Old Austin is a real star and as good as gold living indoors. He is as clean as a whistle, loves the fire and laying in front of it. He is always at the back of the queue for treats and not pushy at all.

It would be lovely to see Austin find a home as he would really like a bit of comfort in his old age. He would not be suited to a house with cats or small dogs and I would say would prefer a house without children. More due to his epilepsy, as he prefers just to laze in front of the fire and dream his days away.

He is able to go for walks etc. and thoroughly enjoys that, interested in everything and showing no signs of his age.

Prince

Prince is a handsome 4 1/2 year old white and fawn Greyhound boy. He is the kennel’s best football player and if you throw the ball up in the air for him, he waits for it to rebound off the floor and then he will jump over 6′ to catch it in mid air.

rgtea_prince4.JPG

Prince continues to mark quite a lot outside, paying particular attention to cover a female’s scent. In the garden, Prince is a delight. Off lead, he engaged in play with both Greyhound Stripey and Sid, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Prince showed impeccable manners with the toys, sharing without jealousy or fuss. Prince had a quick sniff around the kitchen but didn’t scent mark at all.

This hound has made such progress in terms of confidence now and he is a pleasure to take out for a walk. Prince can’t travel without a bit of initial whinging and singing but he’s fine and settles quickly. The lovely thing about Prince is that he is such a gentleman and would learn to fit in with new owners quite quickly, he soon picks up subtle clues and responds well when asked to stop, slow down, and turn etc, when out walking.

He seems relaxed in the company of other dogs and on all of his days out he has been fine with other dogs and also seems okay with children. Prince walks well on the lead; he doesn’t pull and is happy to go at whatever pace you set. Prince has also started to chatter when he’s in the kennels, which you can’t fail but to smile at!

We did try Prince with a cat once and he was fairly interested, but we think with correct handling he could possibly be taught to live with a cat, if not entirely cat friendly. Prince would probably be best suited to a middle aged, quiet couple who like to play and have fun and can spend lots of time doing Prince stuff.

Ned

Ned is a 3 year old handsome black a white Greyhound male, he was very nervous when he arrived but gaining confidence all the time. Walking in the open countryside he seems unsure and likes to keep checking what his companion dog is doing. However in a more built up area he seems happy to lead out, though not pulling or difficult to control.

rgtea_ned.jpg

He is interested in everything he sees and does not seem to be worried by any sights or noises. He should settle nicely with regular walking experiences.

He is fine with larger dogs but may need careful introduction to smaller ones and is unlikely to be cat safe. Ned is a lovely boy who should develop nicely into a happy, confident dog with the help of an understanding owner who can work with his lack of experience in a home situation and teach him to play and have fun.

Bramble

Meet Bramble, this lovely, tall, dark brindle Greyhound male with deep chocolate eyes is thought to be around 2 years of age. Bramble is a real softie that loves to be fussed but very undemanding of attention initially. He travels well in the car, settling down quickly. Bramble walks well on the lead; he actually prefers to walk just behind or clinging close to your left leg in built up areas, where he could do to gain more confidence.

rgtea_bramble.jpg

However, in the quiet countryside he will potter along sniffing the grass verges and seems more comfortable. He does little outdoor marking and may well be house-clean or at least easily trained.  He shows no great interest in most other dogs or people passing by though seems to be afraid of yappy little dogs. He needs to be kept well controlled around cats or on seeing running dogs in the distance.

Bramble seems to be a very loyal dog to his handler and concentrates his attention on them almost totally. He is believed to suffer from separation anxiety, being over-dependant on his handler. The company of a confident bitch or an owner prepared to work on building his confidence would be good for this lovely young lad, who will blossom with time and gentle handling.

Tara

Tara is a small black Greyhound female with little white flecks like little snowflakes, very pretty. She is approximately 6 years old, spayed and house clean.  She was very nervous at first but now, when she gets to know you she is a very loving little girl and full of life. However, she is a terrible thief so every piece of food or anything resembling anything edible has to be put away at the moment.

rgtea_tara.jpg

When outside she’s quiet, doesn’t pull, and is interested in her surroundings and quite happy to walk as long as you want to! Tara travels well in the car and settles herself quickly. She has been fine with other dogs she has met and does not seem to be noise sensitive.

This lovely girl will be a joy to own for some lucky family…..could it be yours?

Gracie

Gracie is a lovely little black and white Greyhound female aged approximately 3 1/2 years old who has been with us since 23rd June 07. She was lovely when she walked through the door and still is as lovely. She is friendly, loving and bouncy. She loves life to the full and is brilliant with all people be they small people or big people.

rgtea_gracie.jpg

She is spotlessly clean and fully house-trained. Gracie can hold herself for long amounts of time so would be able to be homed in a working home. Gracie has been indoors with us and the other dogs for about a week now and she is really coming out of her shell.

She gets on fine with all the other dogs here but not sure if she would be cat friendly. She loves playing with Harvey the pup they are always together. She loves playing with toys and Gracie is such a sweet little character, she will keep you amused for hours.

She loves everybody and all the dogs. She loves going out to events where she can speak to all the people. She will be a joy to own.

Harry

Harry (aka Hairy Toed Harry) is a 6 year old blue brindle male Greyhound who came to us with a very badly infected toe on his back foot, and was severely underweight. We took HTH to the vets where he was put on antibiotics, nothing worked and after 16 weeks the vets decided that his toe would have to be amputated.

rgtea_harry.JPG

The vets did a very special operation where they managed to make Harry a small toe out of his original pad hence the nickname HTH. He has a lovely personality, really loves people and will do nearly anything for a cuddle. He goes out with my 75 year old Mum and her friend to Pets at Home to do Meets and Greets and is a real star.

HTH is very insecure in new situations and is easily frightened by loud noises such as thunder and on very windy days, needs lots of reassurance.

Harry has one downfall, and that is his house training. He has the tendency to lift his leg when the urge takes him. I am sure with a lot of understanding and patience someone could teach him to be clean, and he has so much to offer in return.

Alfie

Alfie is a 5 year old male white and brindle Greyhound, he is lovely is quite small for a boy, but extremely handsome.  When Alfie first came to us he was so competitive he would not allow you to have toys back which he was playing with in the paddock but gradually over time Alfie has learnt to play with his toys and share with you instead of hogging them all himself.

rgtea_alfie.JPG

Alfie is now ready for a home, he is clean in his kennel and I think would fit into most households well, although I would not recommend with young children, purely because of the toy issue.  He will need a firm hand but is very very responsive to a kind word and a cuddle.
