Rebel - 18 month old male German Shepherd Dog
Rebel (ref 91d) is an 18 month old immensely likeable male black and tan German Shepherd Dog. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre by an RSPCA Inspector. He is a very friendly, intelligent and good-natured dog who enjoys being with people enormously. He loves playing, both with toys and with people, and seriously enjoys being made a big fuss of whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Rebel knows at least 6 commands and would certainly enjoy learning many, many more because he is an extremely clever dog who would think that learning was fun. He is also an obedient dog with a lovely personality to go with his handsome looks. He seems not to have encountered heavy traffic before and can sometimes look a little worried when buses and heavy trucks go past him in the street, but he never panics and all it takes is a calm voice and a reassuring stroke to put him at his ease. He is a well-balanced dog who should adjust very quickly to new things in his life.
Rebel would be suitable for an active household where any children were aged 7+ and kind to animals. He didn’t have a very nice time with his last owner, so he really does need a home where everyone loves him and wants him to be happy. He also needs to be the only pet in the house, since he doesn’t enjoy the company of other dogs and would definitely chase cats and rabbits.
Rebel is a thoroughly good guy who needs a home with people who will see that he gets lots of walks and exercise for his body and plenty of stimulation for his wonderful German Shepherd brain. If you love fresh air, fun and games and have lots of love to give, then our handsome friend Rebel may well be the dog for you.
16May2008 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREGrace - 8 year old female Labrador Cross
Grace (ref 65d) is an 8 years old very gentle and sweet-natured close-coated female black Labrador cross. She arrived at Derby RSPCA Centre when her last owner, who owned a very large number of dogs, found herself no longer able to cope with so many animals.
She is by nature a friendly dog, but is very timid at the moment because so many things are new to her. She is used to living with dogs rather than with people, so she is very wary of humans on first acquaintance, no matter how friendly they are.
She is rather baffled by many things which other dogs would take for granted and doesn’t at present know what playing is, but she seems willing to learn very gently and enjoys being stroked once she has got to know the person who is stroking her. She is just beginning to investigate the idea of going for a walk and is gradually starting to make sense of the outside world, but needs to do it very slowly and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed, especially by strangers and noisy traffic.
Grace would be suitable for a calm, gentle and loving household where she would be allowed plenty of time to adjust to life and where her new owners have experience and understanding of dogs.
She will need plenty of exercise and to lose a certain amount of weight, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the place for Grace. Any children living in the household would need to be aged 15+ and very kind to a shy dog like Grace who needs lots of understanding and nothing which might make her panic.
She is used to living with dogs and seems to ignore cats, possibly because she has never met any before. She has had very little training, but is a pleasant and intelligent dog who should be reasonably swift to learn.
Could you offer shy Grace the patient, loving, caring, dog-friendly home she needs to turn her into a normal, happy animal?

Lexi (ref 64d) is a lovely and good-natured wavy-coated female 1- year old black Labrador cross. She arrived at Derby RSPCA Centre when her last owner, who owned a very large number of dogs, found herself no longer able to cope with so many animals. She is a friendly soul who loves being made a fuss of, but is just a little bit nervous at present when strangers try to say hello to her.
She is used to living with dogs rather than with people, so she is a wee bit wary of humans on first acquaintance, but at the same time she is very interested in people and obviously wants to investigate them. She simply needs to gain a little more confidence.
Lexi is just beginning to explore the idea of going for a walk, but needs to do it very slowly and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed. She currently finds heavy traffic and sudden sharp noises rather unsettling, but should adjust to them quickly enough as long as she gets plenty of walks.
Lexi would be suitable for a calm, gentle and loving household where she would be allowed plenty of time to adjust to life and where her new owners experience and understanding of dogs.
She will require plenty of exercise and to lose a certain amount of weight, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the place for Lexi. Any children living in the household would need to be aged 10+ and kind to animals. Lexi needs to live somewhere where no-one will grab at her and pull her about like a toy, because that kind of thing scares her.
She is used to living with dogs and seems to ignore cats, possibly because she has never met any before. She has had very little training, but is a pleasant and intelligent dog who should be reasonably swift to learn.
Could you offer timid but friendly Lexi the patient, loving, caring, dog-friendly home she needs to turn her into the happy and confident animal she’s meant to be?

Bonnie (ref. 67d) is a shy but very lovable 8 year old smooth-coated female Black Labrador cross. She arrived at Derby RSPCA Centre when her last owner, who owned a very large number of dogs, found herself no longer able to cope with so many animals.
When she first arrived, she was very nervous indeed and would even run away if people tried to stroke her, but her confidence has grown enormously since then and she is now a much more relaxed dog, though still a tiny bit timid when faced with new experiences. She simply needs to gain a little more confidence.
Bonnie is only just learning about going for walks, so she needs to do it gently and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed. She will require plenty of exercise, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the right place for Bonnie. Any children living in the household would need to be aged 10+ and very kind to animals. 22Apr2008 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREAbbey - 8 year old female Labrador Cross
Abbey is a gentle and good-hearted 8 year old female Black Labrador cross with a ripply coat. She arrived at Derby RSPCA Centre when her last owner, who owned a very large number of dogs, found herself no longer able to cope with so many animals.

She is a warm and friendly dog who loves to be stroked and to be around people, but is just a little timid at the moment because her whole world is in a state of change and many things are new to her. She is used to living with dogs rather than with people, but is obviously very keen to become better acquainted with the human race. She simply needs to gain a little more confidence.
Abbey isn’t very familiar with the idea of going for a walk, so she needs to do it very slowly and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed. She finds heavy traffic and sudden sharp noises rather unsettling at present and can sometimes look a little worried when she’s out and about, but she is already learning and should adjust quickly as long as she gets plenty of walks.
Abbey would be suitable for a calm, gentle and loving household where she would be allowed plenty of time to adjust to life and where her new owners have experience and understanding of dogs.
She will require plenty of exercise and to lose a little weight, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the right place for Abbey. Any children living in the household would need to be aged 7+ and very kind to animals.
Abbey is used to living with dogs and seems to ignore cats, possibly because she has never met any before. She has had very little training, but is a pleasant and intelligent dog who should be reasonably swift to learn. 22Apr2008 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MORECharlotte - 10 year old female Labrador Cross
Charlotte (ref 69d) is a 10 year old shy but extremely lovable smooth-coated female Black Labrador cross. She arrived at Derby RSPCA Centre when her last owner, who owned a very large number of dogs, found herself no longer able to cope with so many animals.
She is essentially a gentle and friendly dog who really loves being stroked, but she is still a tiny bit timid when faced with new experiences. She simply needs to gain a little more confidence.
Charlotte doesn’t have much experience of going for walks, so she needs to get the hang of it gently and quietly so that she doesn’t get alarmed. She finds heavy traffic and sudden sharp noises a bit unsettling at present and can sometimes look a little worried when strangers pass near her on the pavement, but she is already so much more confident and intrepid than she was and should adjust very quickly as long as she gets plenty of walks.
Charlotte would be suitable for a calm, gentle and loving household where she would be allowed plenty of time to adjust to life and where her new owners have experience and understanding of dogs.
She will require plenty of exercise, so an active but non-rowdy home would be the right place for Charlotte. Any children living in the household would need to be aged 10+ and very kind to animals, because she doesn’t yet know how to play and noisy, rough behaviour would frighten her.
She is used to living with dogs but seems to ignore cats altogether at present. She has had precious little training, but is a pleasant and intelligent dog who should be reasonably swift to learn. Charlotte is a very, very likeable dog who deserves a long and happy life in a loving new home surrounded by patient, loving, caring, dog-friendly people.
22Apr2008 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREFrazer - 8 year old male Dobermann
Frazer (ref 60d) is a rather dashing male Dobermann Pinscher. He is believed to be about 8 years old and is a very fit and active dog. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner simply had too many animals and wasn’t able to cope with them all.
Frazer is a very likeable and friendly dog who has been well brought up and knows at least 5 commands. Being a Dobermann, he is a very intelligent and trainable dog who is obedient and generally understands what you want him to do. He could probably learn more commands very easily.

As well as being an alert and athletic dog, he loves to play - both with people and with toys - and adores being made a fuss of. He also enjoys being groomed, because he sees it as an intensive fussing session. Frazer would be suitable for a fairly active home where any young people were aged 15+, kindly and sensibly-behaved towards animals.
He needs to be rehomed as the only pet in the household, since he doesn’t like the company of other dogs and would be certain to chase after cats, rabbits and other small furry creatures.
Frazer is a really well-behaved and sensible dog and it’s a genuine pleasure to be with him. He will require plenty of exercise and lots of regular walks to keep him in good condition, plus plenty of mental stimulation in the form of games and training to make sure he remains a happy and healthy boy.
All in all, he really is a rather superb and handsome dog and will make an excellent friend and companion for anyone who can offer him the active, caring and loving home-for-life he now needs, rather than an uncaring home where he’d be kept in a kennel or used as a guard dog. Frazer is a lovely dog who deserves kindness and care for the rest of his life, with people who genuinely love dogs.
6Apr2008 | RSPCA Derby and District | READ MOREBembo - 1 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Bembo is a very jolly 1 year old black Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross male. He is friendly with absolutely everyone, Bembo came to us on the 22nd of January 2008. Lovable Bembo would be suitable for a household where any children were aged over 10 years.
He loves playing, being groomed, being stroked, being hugged, being cuddled…..In short, he adores affection, attention and being in the company of friendly people. He needs an active home where he would get plenty of fresh air, exercise, walks and play sessions with people who love him and who want to give him the full and happy life he deserves. He knows various basic commands.

Broadly speaking, Bembo doesn’t enjoy other dogs making a nuisance of themselves. However, there might just be a chance that he could get along with another dog, though he would need to meet the dog first and it would have to have a suitably compatible personality. Being a Terrier, though, Bembo would be certain to chase cats, rabbits and other small animals, so he needs a home where there aren’t any to chase.
Bembo is a happy, lively and irrepressible dog who is totally in love with the human race. He is perfectly cut out to be a loving and loyal companion, playmate and friend to anyone who can offer him the fun, activity, love and affection he needs to make him happy.
