For further details regarding adopting a dog from Solo Sanctuary Staffordshire, please telephone 07941 653924 or email solosanctuary@hotmail.co.uk Solo Sanctuary's main aim is to help stray dogs and cats in the Stafford / Staffordshire area by helping with medical treatment and/or emergency boarding if it is a pts situation. This means that we occasionally will have a dog / cat that we have helped as a stray that is now looking for a new home. In these circumstances the animal will be assessed before placement, vaccinated, microchipped and speyed / neutered. Any adopter will be subject to a home visit - we can home anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit the animal and a home visit can be arranged. Adoption fees are £90 for a dog, £50 for a cat - all fees will be used directly to keep helping the strays. www.solosanctuary.co.uk

Madge – 9-10 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Madge is a female Staffordshire Bullterrier approximately 9-10 years old. This dear little lady has fallen on hard times. Found as a stray she is longing for a place to call home, where she can be comfortable and feel loved. Madge is quite small for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier – but has a big personality to steal your heart with!

Dog status: Madge is generally good with other dogs when out and about, she walks well with all the other dogs at the kennels and has spent time with one of the volunteer’s dogs and quite happily trotted alongside him. However she would not want to share with another dog in the house as she would really enjoy having the attention to herself. She pulls a little on a lead but is very easy to walk on a harness.

Children status: Madge is very affectionate with all the adults she has met but as we have no history of Madge with children it would be best if any children are in their teens.

Cat Status: Madge is not keen on cats.

In the car: Madge travels well in a car and settles quietly.

In the house: Madge has had a few days in a temporary foster placement whilst waiting for her space at kennels, during this time she proved herself to be housetrained and she also slept quietly through the night without any problems. She is also crate trained.

Here are some video links:

Madge just loves to love you and her favourite thing of all is to be having a cuddle off you. She is very loving, eager to please, knows basic commands and will make someone a loyal and loving companion. Madge is vaccinated, and will be speyed and microchipped. She has no known health problems.

This little loving girl really deserves a break and would just love to be loved by someone -
Can you give this girl a chance of a happy home again?

Madge is also available for foster whilst she waits for her forever.

Madge is currently located in Nottingham but can be adopted anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit her and a home visit can be arranged.

To enquire about Madge for adoption or fostering please ring Kate on 07941 653924 or email solosanctuary@hotmail.co.uk

If you are interested in fostering – Foster carers will have full support from Solo Sanctuary and all vets bills will be paid by the rescue whilst she is being fostered.

*Update November 2011*

Madge is still looking for her forever home but she has been lucky enough to find a foster home in the meantime.

In a foster home she has proved herself to be a lovely girl, very affectionate and no trouble at all and she quickly settled in. She is house trained, going to the door to ask to be let out. She is obedient, reacting to commands – sit, stay, wait, leave – and learns to follow house rules very quickly, for instance she does not get onto the furnituire unless allowed. She walks nicely when out, she wears a harness and does not pull or react to other dogs going past. She enjoys her walks and although she is older is happy to walk 6 miles at a time – but she is equally as happy to snoozle the day away! She greets people nicely who come into the house. She is crate trained at night and when left, and can be left for 2-3 hours with no problems. She is not toy or food possessive, she likes to play with her toys but will allow you to take them from her. She is living with an older, calm male Staffy x in her foster home and there have been no issues – in fact she loves to sit near him and if she cannot be right next to him will ensure that at least one paw is touching him…aww! She plays nicely with him during the day and then inisists on giving his face, ears and neck a good old clean – as these boys do get themselves in such a state!! She would be happy as an only dog as she could get all the fuss, but equally happy living with a older, calm male dog. She would fit into any sort of home – young or older couple, a family home (children to be 8yrs plus – simply because we have no history with Madge with younger children) or a single person who would like a companion.

Madge is vaccinated, speyed and microchipped and is currently in foster in Stafford.

This little, loving girl so deserves her own family again….if you feel you could offer Madge a home please get in touch.

Bobby – 8-10 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Bobby was found as a stray and taken to the local pound he only had 7 days left to live if he was not claimed – Bobby was not claimed! Thankfully though some guardian angels stepped in and managed to remove Bobby from the pound and place him in Emergency Boarding facilities. Solo Sanctuary is now wants to find Bobby his new forever home.

Bobby is a handsome boy. Please don’t overlook him simply because he is middle aged – he is aged between 8-10yrs old. He is a soft boy who loves his toys, and is good with most dogs. He is a nice friendly lad and is active and alert. He is a pedigree type of Staffy, stocky and chunky and well proportioned. He has a good temperament and is not excitable. He is living with two children in his foster home aged 8yrs and 14yrs – he adores the 14yr old and follows him around – so we know Bobby is okay to live with children 8yrs plus.

He is an obedient boy and has quickly learned the house rules, he is eager to please, and he is house trained. Bacon is currently in foster in the Leicetershire area but can be adopted anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit him and a home visit can be arranged. Bacon is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

To enquire about Bacon please ring Kate on 07941 653924 or email solosanctuary@hotmail.co.uk

Solo Sanctuary does ask for an adoption donation of £90 to help us continue our work.

Ice – 9-10 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Ice is a female Staffordshire Bull Terrier approximately 9-10 years old. She was found as a stray she would dearly love to have a loving family of her own again and have a cosy warm fireplace to snooze in front of. She has been in kennels for a while now – which is no place for a lady. She is a very friendly girl and has been fine with other dogs, walking with them daily at the kennels.

She is a calm girl and it is felt she would be okay with older children (8 years plus). This lovely girl really deserves a break and would just love to be loved by someone. Ice has no known health problems – although she could probably do with losing a few pounds – well when you get to that certain age!…but a few extra walks will help there.

Can you give this girl a chance of a happy home again?

Ice is also available for foster if you can only offer a temporary cosy fireplace for her

Ice is currently located in Nottingham but can be adopted anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit her and a home visit can be arranged. Ice is vaccinated, speyed and microchipped.

Bruce – 9-10 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Bruce is a 9-10 year old white and black Staffordshire Bull Terrier who found himself abandoned at a time when he needed his home comforts. Bruce is a very special boy as he has been looking for a loving forever home for a long time.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBb_BCNJupM&autoplay=0 400 400]

Found as a stray Bruce had been in kennels for quite a while – but was always being overlooked – being more mature and some may say not as handsome as the other dogs also looking for homes. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and having become aware of his plight Solo Sanctuary visited Bruce in kennels, stopped, looked and saw what a lovely boy he is. Solo Sanctuary found Bruce a caring foster home and now he is out of the kennels how the boy has blossomed!

Bruce is an affectionate boy who loves his comforts and is very well behaved in the house. He is good with other dogs and just looooves people. All he really wants is someone to love him in return. His foster carer describes him as, ‘One laid back canine that takes everything in his stride’. Bruce does have a ‘dry eye’ condition which means he requires cream applied to his eyes when needed. However the cream required can be bought at a chemist and is not expensive and his eyes have improved a lot since being in a dry, warm home. Bruce travels well in a car, he is house trained and is such a happy boy despite what he has been through. Bruce always makes you smile – can you make him smile again!

An ideal home for Bruce would be one where any children are older (10yrs plus maybe) so that they can understand he will need to settle in a new home environment quietly. He may be able to live with another dog if initial meetings went well – he had a doggy grilfriend at the kennels he was walked with every day. It is not known how he would react to cats. Bruce is currently located in Ludlow, Shropshire but can be homed anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit him and a home visit can be arranged. Bruce is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

To enquire about Bruce please ring Kate on 07941 653924 or email solosanctuary@hotmail.co.uk

Foster Carers report

What a lovely surprise Bruce has been for me in my first experience of being a doggy foster mum. He is also my first experience of a Staffy, having never even known one until Bruce came into my life. Any slight apprehensions I might have had before his arrival were quickly laid to rest on our first meeting due to his friendly, open and trusting character. He is certainly easygoing and laid back, but he is also healthy and vigorous. Although he is older, boy, can he run when given the opportunity! He also likes to play his favourite being a barking and pouncing game, given minor encouragement, but apart from his game, he is a quiet chap and hardly ever barks.

There is no doubt in my mind that he has enjoyed good human relationships in his past. He has no sign of any ‘kennel trauma’. He quickly adjusted from his initial slight bewilderment at his latest lifestyle change. We are not sure of his age. People usually guess at between seven and nine.

People seem drawn to Bruce. Everybody loves him. The couple who occasionally look after him at doggy daycare are big fans of his and tell me I am a very lucky lady to have him. They have an elderly greyhound cross and Bruce gets on well with her, fits in fine and enjoys his visits.

[youtube:hhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ep167uvpL8&autoplay=0 400 400]

I am not sure about cats. We met one in the cat rescue shop and Bruce ignored it at first, but he did make a rush at it when I started stroking it.

He is very good on the lead and does not pull. He goes off lead in safe confined areas and loves to run and explore, if he spots me waving my arms to get his attention he will run back. Bruce is basically very tolerant and never grumpy or difficult. He has a mind of his own and has a way of letting you know what he would like, and when. He is amenable but not a pushover. I believe he will adapt to most situations or households, but if homed with another dog it should be a female, as he may prefer to be top dog with a male in the house. He would very much like a garden as he is deprived of that with me and my little backyard.

Whoever takes him home and gives him the attention he deserves will find themselves privileged to have a loving and loyal companion

Bruce has recently had some dental work – so his smile is now even brighter and at the same time he had a small lump removed from his eyelid which was irritating his eye. He does have ‘dry eye’ but this is simply treated by one lot of eye drops a day or when required. The eye drops can be bought inexpensively from the chemist.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Udzfjw9R-KM&autoplay=0 400 400]

Bruces ideal home would be one where any children are 6yrs plus – Bruce is fine with children – or an active adult home who can walk him regularly. He would love a garden and could probably live with a female doggy companion. He has asked that there be no cats though!

For all the time he has been waiting for his forever home Bruce has never put a foot wrong. He has behaved himeself where ever he has been and been a firm favourite with everyone who has met him.

Please give this boy a chance he has so much love to give.

Bruce is currently located in Ludlow, Shropshire but can be homed anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit him and a home visit can be arranged.

Bruce is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Spike – 1-2 year old male Staffordshire Bullterrier

Spike is an 1-2 year old dark brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is a gentle, quiet boy for his age – not manic or bouncy. He walks well on his lead and has been happy walking with and meeting other dogs. He knows some basic commands and travels well in the car. Spike is in kennels at the moment and has been no problem there at all.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHaBgfYhweI&autoplay=0 400 400]

He is quite a small Staffy who is very handsome and with some one to one attention and tlc will be an absolute stunner! He would benefit so much from having a home to call his own and someone to believe in him and love him – could that be you?

An ideal home for Spike would be one where any children are older (12yrs plus maybe) so that they can understand he he will need to settle in a new home environment quietly. He may be able to live with another dog if initial meetings went well. It is not known how he would react to cats.

Spike is currently located in Nottingham but can be homed anywhere as long as the adopter is prepared to visit him and a home visit can be arranged. Spike is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

If you are unable to adopt but would be interested in fostering Spike we would also welcome your call.

Boost – 2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Boost is a 2 year old black/brindle and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is a happy, friendly little boy who can be a little lively when first meeting new people but very quickly settles. He loves his toys and his treats and has a very sweet temperament.

I walk Boost for over an hour twice a week which he loves, he is learning all the time. He will walk to heel and is very keen to learn new commands. He knows the basics – sit, down, stay and would be very responsive to learning more. He loves people, and will cover you with kisses if you let him! He is very handsome – his photos do not do him justice!. He is young, and if you are looking for a dog that will be your soul companion – loyal, faithful and trustworthy – Boost is your man.

He could live with older children and would like a garden to play and regular, daily exercise. He has not been cat tested as yet but this can be arranged. He is not bothered with other dogs – as long as he has your attention he is happy.

He is currently located in Stoke, Staffordshire but can be homed anywhere as long as the adopter is preapred to visit him and a home visit can be arranged.
