Baloo – 2 year old male German Shepherd Dog

Hello, I’m Baloo the German Shepherd Dog and I’m 2 year old male and everyone says I am a very handsome boy. I came into the Mayhew because my owner could no longer look after me. When I first arrived I didn’t even know how to walk on lead but I have been getting some first class training here at The Mayhew. Now when my handler Dan tells me to walk to heel I respond immediately. I am an intelligent boy and a fast learner. It is thought that I have previously been kept outside and used as a guard dog where I’ve lacked proper training and socialisation. I did not get to mix with people and was encouraged to be protective of my owner, I do guard my cabin diligently.

I am very intelligent and responsive to training and I respond very well to praise and yummy rewards. I’m housetrained and I can also be left alone for a couple of hours without a problem. I am good with other dogs and will accept a doggy telling-off without retaliating. I could live with a mature, well behaved and sociable female dog providing our introductions went well. I am very playful but I can get over-excited so I need constructive games where I can use my brain.

I am now looking for a indoor home without any cats or children. Care will need to be taken with visiting children. I am not a family dog but would thrive on challenging activities and will loyally serve my new owner. I need someone who will put in the time to train me and take me to classes so I could learn better manners around people and make up for lost time. I am not for the faint-hearted, so I need an experienced dog owner who has also owned guarding breeds before. A special person who will be fair but firm with me, and show good leadership. I require a minimum of one to two hours of off lead exercise every day; I need to wear a muzzle and a longline on my walks due to my unpredictable nature around strangers. If you are a couch potato then I am NOT the dog for you but if you have a good pair of walking or running shoes and some nice big open spaces around then we could make a great team.
