Belle is a 2 year old English Springer Spaniel cross Labrador who came into foster without much background information. Belle’s good points are: She is loving and a real cuddle monster. She has bonded well with the child she is in foster care with. She sleeps in a crate at night and puts herself to bed when she is ready, although she would rather sleep on the bed with you. She knows sit, stay, paw and walks nicely on the lead with a halti. She has bonded well with the other dog in foster and is aware of her place with him. She has brought out the playfulness in the other dog. We want her to be rehomed with another dog. She will sit and wait for her own food, only eating when she is told. She doesn’t like mud and will keep herself immaculately clean.
Belle’s not so good points are: She is anxious and barks at noises she doesn’t recognise. She is an opportunist where human food is concerned. She can jump a stairgate and a large dog gate would be needed to keep her separate unless crated. She is scared of men, particularly big men. On one occasion she lunged at a man in the park. This is being worked on in foster care and is improving, however this is still erratic with her.
Belle arrived in foster care as a highly anxious dog who barked at everything. She refused to come near the adults in the house and cowered if a voice was raised. However, in the short time she has been with us she has turned into the most loving, gentle dog who has bonded well with all the humans that she has learnt to trust. However, due to her issues she requires an experienced home who will understand and continue to work on her fight or flight mentality.
Due to Belle’s nervous disposition, she has generally been walked on lead. However, when she has been let off her recall has been good, and she has stayed close with her foster family. She likes to chase cats and will pull on lead if one crosses her path. This is also true for other dogs she has met on walks, some of which appears to be her wanting to play as she is still young.
Belle is still young and deserves someone who has the time, patience and experience to help her blossom into her full potential. In return, Belle will give all her love, loyalty and kisses to her foster family. Belle will be rehomed with a contract to spay in December as she has just finished her season. She is vaccinated, chipped, wormed and flead and is in foster in East Sussex.
