Ben – 13 year old male Collie cross Labrador
Ben is a 13 year old chocolate-coloured Collie cross Labrador who is in an Oldies Club foster home in London. Wow! Who could resist this handsome boy? Affectionate Ben came into our care when his previous owner emigrated. He quickly settled in his foster home and within a week he was joyful! Gorgeous Ben is happy to be left alone for a few hours. He is good on the lead; he just needs a little reminder and then he stays close. He has good recall – comes when called. Ben is also very good in the car. What a star!
Ben gets on fine with female dogs but he sometimes greets male dogs with a growl, especially when on the lead, but he is fine if properly introduced. Ben’s foster carer hasn’t been able to test him with cats but we were told by his previous owner that Ben is used to living with them. Ben is calm with children but he does like peace and quiet so his foster carer wouldn’t want him to go to a home with youngsters.
Youthful Ben is energetic for his age and enjoys playing ball, but he also loves sleeping and he has a collection of teddies. He is an affectionate and companionable boy. He doesn’t like having his tail or collar pulled (but you obviously won’t be pulling his tail anyway!). In common with most dogs, he is frightened of storms and fireworks. Also baths! But overall, he is pretty bomb proof.
Ben’s foster carer describes his perfect home: Ben is a quiet, companionable dog. He becomes very attached and would suit a single person or a couple.
Ben has been vet-checked and he seems to be in good health other than a little stiffness in his hips. He will shortly be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated.
His foster carer sums him up for us: From day one Ben has been a really easy dog to have around. He fitted straight into the household routine. He is quiet while I work (I am a writer), but springs up when it is time for a walk. He is an all round good dog. Great companion for an older or single person or couple.
