Benson – 18 months old male Golden Retriever
Benson is very friendly 18 month old Golden Retriever boy. He is happy, craves attention and acts like an overgrown puppy. He sleeps all night through with no accidents but as soon as he is up he is raring to go. He needs plenty of training and a firm hand. Not brilliant on the lead but he is eager to learn. He understand basic commands, sit, stay and down but only for about 30 seconds! This will improve in the right home. He is strong willed and he thinks that everything is a game, especially when scolded, so we have found it’s best to ignore him or remove him from the situation when he is naughty and he calms down and behaves himself.
He loves to be groomed and would stand for it all day! He is now much better with the cats and we have caught him sleeping with them once or twice. He loves to get in the car and travels well. He has met quite a few other dogs and seems fine with them. Due to him acting like a boisterous teenager he would be much better suited to a home with older children.
Benson is a lovely, friendly boy who will make a great family pet. He is not bad, but he is lively and needs firm discipline and an owner who is willing to invest time and effort in training him. This would suggest that Benson may be better suited to a home with an older dog, or dogs, where he can learn good behaviour by example.
Benson is a big baby and needs someone who will be in charge and not allow him to dominate. He is a very loveable rogue with plenty of fun and love to give to the right owner, who will guide him in the right direction and continue with his training.
