Bernie is a typically lively 3 year old Blue Roan working English Cocker Spaniel. Bernie is a delight with a permanently waggy tail, great with other dogs doesn’t particularly play but is very happy in their company, great with people friendly but not overly so with strangers but happy once he knows you. He loves to sit on your lap but is equally happy in his bed in his crate – he has always slept in a crate so this will need to continue. Great around food and toys, walks ok on a lead, happy to be left for a couple of hours.
So Bernie is the perfect dog? Not quite – Bernie should be called Houdini, Bernie doesn’t see fences as barriers more challenges to overcome. He is constantly trying to escape either through, under – he is a very proficient digger or over and once he’s away its nose down and spaniel deafness. Even in our large garden he doesn’t listen. He has a recall – he just chooses not to use it. Bernie had to leave his home because he escaped on several occasions and enjoyed running around with the sheep.
So Bernie needs a Bernie proof home, your garden must be 100% secure and he shouldn’t be able to access the front door easily as he will, given the opportunity, just leg it. He needs someone who will spend time training him he does appear to respond to a whistle and something like agility may help him focus his attention and he would be good at it he’s fast and very springy. He needs a lot of work if his recall is to improve he’s a clever dog who needs to learn to focus and listen.
Bernie previously lived with children and would be fine with them, seems fine around chickens and cats although may chase. Fine with other dogs but would also be ok as an only dog providing he had human company most of the time.
Bernie is neutered chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption donation. Applications via forms section of website please.
