Billy – 3 year old male Lurcher

Billy is a wonderful 3 year old Lurcher who has been with us a long time since November 2008. He moved up to the Hertfordshire branch of Greyhound Rescue West of England a few months ago into a special slot we have up here where we have been able to work on his socialising and give him some more freedom after spending too long in kennels.

Billy is a troubled boy who came to us last from another rescue – he arrived with a broken back! We had his back pinned and plated last November. He has made a fantastic recovery from this surgery and can run, turn, walk without any problems. He has been followed up at the vets and shows no sign of pain or discomfort.

I think Billy was probably a very loyal dog who was hurt badly in the past – not just physically getting his back broken – but mentally.

Billy finds it hard to trust people and can initially be quite defensive. Once he knows you though he is very affectionate and loving.

Billy is very sweet with children but we dont want to home him to a family home; we would be looking for a quiet home for Billy – a haven where he can relax and truly unwind and slowly forget his hangups.
He will need a patient but firm owner – one who will want to work with him and help to improve him and show him the way clearly… without being over symapathetic … someone who will give him clear leadership and the stability he needs.

Billy can live with other dogs but to make life as simple as possible for him we think a home where he can be the only dog with someone around most of the time – perhaps they work from home. Older or no children. Billy did test as cat trainable, but again life would be simpler if he could settle without.

Do you think you can help our boy? We would be pleased to hear from anyone who thinks they have what Billy needs and can offer him a permanent or long time foster home.

Billie will make a super pet for that special person who can learn to understand him and spend time with him.
