Blue – 3 1/2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Whippet

Blue is a 3 1/2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Whippet who came from the Wirral & Chester Branch as a cruelty case back in July 2008, he wasn’t coping well in kennels so we offered a fostering space where he’d been for a few months until he was rehomed January 2009. He is currently in foster care in Swadlincote, Derbyshire.

Sadly due to his owners relationship break up Blue is being left 12 hours a day on his own, his owner is very sad at having to rehome him but he cannot give Blue what he needs. We are trying to rehome him from his current home till we have space. Blue is castrated, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Blue came into RSPCA care originally as he had a broken back leg that had not been treated for some time. Because of this most of his muscle had wasted away on that leg. This healed after months of rehabilitation and had built up muscle and strength nicely. As can be seen by the videos it does not affect his play or walking but he does have a limp which he’ll probably always have.

Blue is such an affectionate and friendly dog, he loves people. Blue is ok with some dogs but not others, when on lead he’ll have a sniff and be fine but off the lead he’s not so good with dogs. He does need off lead exercise but it’s best where there are no distractions. His recall is very good unless there is something more interesting about like another dog then you’ll struggle to get him back! He is a clever dog who is very quick to learn, having picked up the sit, stay, down, leave, wait, fetch, off and out/in commands.

Blue is very toy orientated and loves to play games and chase balls; he thrives from stimulating games. Blue is house trained and walks well on the lead, although he does pull to start with. He loves travelling in the car. He hasn’t lived with children but has been around the grandchildren many times and loves the attention. We’d prefer a home with older children as he can be quite bouncy.

Blue hates water so bathing is out of the question and he doesn’t like rain although he loves to be groomed. He’s not at all toy or food possessive. He is really good at the vets.

We speak very highly of Blue, he’s the softest dog with a loving nature and very nice temperament, he’s incredibly handsome, he’s actually blue and white in colour, really quite rare! Due to being anxious initially in a new home he may chew a little if left alone-this is worst case scenario! He has been let down too many times in his short life, this dog needs a secure home. He is very much loved by his owner but we need to find him a new home asap!
