Bod – 4 year old male Whippet Cross
Bod has now been in our care for just over 12months. This is because on arrival it was found that Bod was blind. On investigations with an eye specialist the reason for the blindness was discovered to be untreated juvenille cataracts that had progressed.

Thankfully £3000’s worth of surgery later Bod can now see! We aren’t sure what degree of sight he had but he now managed to run off lead and definitely realises when objects are in his way, he is safe around the house even in strange environments so the operation has been a major success.
Bod is a funny little man who over the last few months has come on in leaps and bounds. He is fine with other dogs once he knows them and has settled with them BUT to begin with he can be a little barky in their face and follow them round as he is struggling to get the measure of them, especially males as he is quite a dominant little boy. However, Bod ADORES his ladies. Well feel that Bod would thrive best in an environment with an older female for companionship, someone he can cuddle up to and run off lead with and who is a good off lead all rounder. When Bod goes off lead we do run him in a muzzle, this isnt because he is nasty BUT if another dog runs over and suddenly joins the play and Bod hasn’t noticed it startles him and he can air snap to begin with till he has had a good sniff.

When Bod first landed with his foster family he was very vocal, he would bark non stop and would keep it up when left without his carer. Thankfully now this has settled and he is fine to be left with the company of other dogs and settles quietly to sleep. However, it needs noting at first in a new home he may revert slightly and it will imperative not to fuss and cuddle Bod too much as this can make him very dependant. He loves nothing better than to climb onto your lap on the sofa and sleep there, again this would need limiting to begin with.
Bod is clean in the house and walks well on lead, he can be a little barky when heading too a walk simply because he is a talker and does the come on, come on, come on, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up routine. He also travels well in the car.
Bods perfect home would be with a quieter couple with a female companion who are around alot of the time and get out for lots of lovely walks. The little man loves to run and play in a garden aswell so someone with a bit more room for him to stretch his legs would be absolutely perfect but not imperative.
So far Bod hasn’t had a fabulous life. This move needs to be his last so that he can settle happily. Anyone offering this little man a home really must be committed to settling him in and spending time allowing his confidence to re build. He may move and be perfect and settled how he is now or he may revert back to the vocals to begin with but we envisage with firm but fair handling it will settle quickly.
Bod has been vaccinated, deflead, de wormed, is microchipped and neutered. It will also be necessary for Bod to have yearly eye check ups with an optomologist (this will continue to be the responsibility of Gap to pay for as will any future problems with the eyes)
This little man really is so ready for his new life now and seems to think his foster carers house is that so he needs to move on. Whoever has the time and the patience to give this boy the love he needs and work through any settling in will have a slightly odd, comical, quizzical little man who steals lots of hearts.
He is currently in foster care in Staffordshire.
