Cap – 6 year old male Border Collie

Cap is a handsome chap, a 6 year old ex-Working Sheepdog who is looking for a home where he can enjoy a new hobby with his family. Cap began his life on a farm where he was a sheepdog, but was retired because he struggled to hold the sheep in their pen. He came to Jerry Green when his owner brought in a younger dog and did not have the room for them both. Cap has spent a lot of his time while here learning about becoming a companion dog – he was initially nervous of household object such as TVs, ticking clocks and stairs but he is overcoming these obstacles one thing at a time.

He is looking for understanding owners who will let him learn about living indoors at his own pace. His home must be situated somewhere fairly rural so that he isn’t being confronted with too many scary new things all at once, and with owners who have experience of Border Collies. We are happy to give as much on-going behavioural support as necessary, for as long as it takes for Cap to settle. We have no concerns that in the right home with the right owners Cap will be a calm, gentle and extremely affectionate boy.

Cap meets new people nicely and will generally introduce himself by sitting on their feet and nuzzling their hands for a fuss. He loves to play and especially likes teddies and tennis balls! He gets on well with children, but if he is to live with kids they should be old enough to understand his background and behave appropriately around him. He has started some basic agility and scentwork training at the centre and has a very cheerful and sensible approach to learning new things. He would love to continue to learn in his new home, though he’s not decided what he’d like to specialise in yet!

Cap loves cats, and also gets on with chickens, ducks and ponies. He would prefer to be the only dog in the house, but could potentially live with another calm and well socialised dog of a similar breed following thorough introductions.

If you can offer Cap the quiet and stable environment he so desperately needs please get in touch. He is a cracking dog with a friendly, happy and cheeky personality. He will make a fantastic companion.
