Tom is a spaniel cross of around 2-3 years old, he is just waiting to be loved, he lives in a pen with other dogs, he used to be chained to a tree, he mixes well and doesnt seem to bother about cats, he is a small medium in size and build. Tom is really affectionate and is sad and cold, please can somebody give him the chance he needs.

Stevie is a lhaso apso and needs a special home, he is blind, this doesnt deter him at all though, he is around 3 years old, he mixes well and doesnt seem bothered by cats, he is a small size crossbreed male, he is desperate to escape the awful life he leads, he is a fun little dog who would make a super addition to a loving family where he could enjoy some home comforts and love.

Walter is a pointer of about 4-5 years old. He is a medium-sized dog, weighing about 26kg. He is fully-vaccinated and wormed and will be neutered before travelling to the UK from our shelter in Greece.

Walter has been in the shelter since June 2011 and, although we love him dearly, it is about time he found his forever home and settled down with a family who can give him all the cuddles he deserves. He is an energetic lad and so would be better suited to an active family who can treat him to extensive walks and games. As an ex-hunting dog he is full of beans and loves to run and play. He is very friendly with children and other dogs and we are confident he would get on well with cats.

Walter is a very gentle soul – he is very quiet and loves to cuddle and be petted. No matter how much another dog may growl or bark at him he never gets angry or reacts. He is determined to give the best of himself in every aspect of life – whether it is a tender, affectionate cuddle or a boisterous game outdoors.

Walter has not had an easy life so far. He was abandoned by his owners once he had outlived his usefulness as a hunting dog. As with most working dogs in Greece his health had been completely neglected, he was half-starved and had probably never experienced human affection. When our volunteers found him he was in a terrible state and we didn’t think he had long to live. He suffers from kalazar (leishmaniasis) which if left untreated is fatal. We took him in expecting him to pass away in a matter of weeks, but he has surprised us all and made a spectacular recovery. His incredible spirit and desire to live have pulled him through all this and he is so big-hearted and full of life you would never suspect he had seen so much suffering.

Walter is still a carrier of kalazar, with a blood count of 1/200 (on arrival in June 2011 his level was 1/800 and by October it was down to 1/400). His illness is now at a manageable level, but will require devoted, understanding owners who are prepared to take him for regular blood tests and provide him with the medication he needs. A UK vet estimates that it will cost about £250 a year for his tests and a daily tablet of Allupurinol. It is also likely that Walter’s kidneys have suffered damage and that his life will be shortened as a result. Are you prepared to give Walter the chance of life that he has fought so hard for?

Walter will be travelling to the UK at the end of May. His transport costs will be paid; a donation to the shelter will be at the discretion of his new family. He has a foster home ready and waiting for him if necessary but we would love for him to be able to go directly to his forever home so he can start giving out hugs straight away.

Dodgy is a 3-4 year old springer spaniel. He is a lovely boy but does have a few OCD tedancies which I will be working with him on. Nothing major just typical springer and when stressed spins in circles. Great with other dogs and is terrified of cats

Blake is a 4 year old neutered male German Shepherd who is looking for a new home due to a change in his previous owners circumstances. He is a wonderful boy who is very affectionate and playful. He is good with people and other dogs. Blake has good recall and is fully house trained. We would prefer him to be rehomed with people who have experience of the breed or similar. He can live with children 8 years plus and possibly with a calm female dog.

David is a lovely 5 year old greyhound that came to us recently after retiring from racing.. David ran well over 100 races so has very much earnt his retirement! David is a very handsome boy, elegant and pointy and he is very loveable! a complete classic greyhound… he walks like a dream on the lead right by your side… he is very very appealing for greyhound lovers!

David is extremely responsive and a complete foodie! he will do anything for a treat and in the paddocks has superb recall! He loves to be with you and doing. Being such a consistent racer means David has a keen eye for movement so would not be a dog to have off lead in open spaces but he would love a garden to show off his running and have a good blast and play..

Before arriving with us David has only ever met other greyhounds! we are busy getting him out and about and introducing him to the world full of other shaped dogs and animals… David is looking for a sighthound savvy adult home.

Hello, my name is Sky. I’m a five year old female Siberian Husky. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owners separated and neither of them felt they could look after me. I am a very friendly and affectionate girl. I’m toilet trained, I can be left on my own for a few hours without any problems and I travel well in the car. I’m well-behaved and obedient and I know all the usual commands which I respond well to. I’m also sociable and out-going and I get along well with everyone I meet and I always greet people with a waggy tail. I also get along well with other dogs but I won’t tolerate them pestering me and I’ll tell them off if they become too boisterous.

I am now looking for a forever home with someone who has owned dogs before and has researched my breed type. I would happily live with sensible teenagers and I could live with another male dog providing we’re the right match but no cats please. My new owners will be expected to provide me with a minimum of one hour of active off lead exercise in the park every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you will be taking on an eleven year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

Bella is a beautiful 4 year old Lakeland Terrier girl. Bella is VERY friendly, and happy girl, She is fine with other dogs, and seems ok with cats too. Bella hasn’t had much training , but she is a very smart girl who is quick to learn, so it won’t take much to teach her new things. She does know sit, and loves a ball & squeaky toy !

Bella is clean and non destructive in her kennel, and travels well in the car.

Can you offer this gorgeous girl the home she deserves ?

Coco is a stunning 4 year old greyhound girl who is a total pleasure to have with us….Coco is clean, quiet, happy and very content in her kennel, loves going exploring for long walks, has been social meeting all other dogs and has that wonderful way about her that makes our unruly youngsters remember their manners!!

We would love to keep Coco forever really as she is such a dream …… but that’s not fair! This stunning lady deserves her own life and wow someone will be very lucky to have her…
