Akita
Leo – 18 month old male Akita
Meet Leo, a curious 18 month old Akita boy looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. An absolute little star, Leo
charmed our assessor with his friendly personality and love of cuddles! Leo has a good knowledge of commands, is gentle with treats, and whilst is strong and bouncy on the lead, it is felt that this is mainly due to him not getting out that much at present. Playful and happy, Leo was keen to interact with our assessor, and to include her with his toy games. Good with food, Leo has not displayed any signs of food aggression or possession.

Described by his owners as friendly with other dogs, pending successful introductions Leo may be able to live with another dog. Leo has lived with young children, and the decision to place Leo in a young family will be made on a case by case basis.
For more information about this lovely boy, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! He is based in Merseyside.

Kazan is a 14 year old Akita who has been waiting in kennels for 18 months as his owner had to go away. Sadly, his owner never came back for him so we are now offering this lovely old boy for adoption. It’s always heartbreaking to see older dogs stuck in kennels so it would be really wonderful to see this old boy in a new, warm home as soon as possible. We would like to find him a quiet home as he’s of later years. Please contact Jo on 01406 540211. Kazan is kennelled in our Spalding Kennels, Lincs.

Flynn – 3-4 year old male Japanese Akita
Hi My name is Flynn and I am a 3-4 year old Japanese Akita. I am ever so friendly and people keep calling me the BFG ( Big friendly Giant). I still think i’m a puppy and am always so very excited to see people that i will shout hello and bounce around on all fours to see if I can get you to play!

I am looking for an owner with experience of larger breeds, I can be quite strong on my lead at times and would benefit from some continued training with this. I love to play, especially with squeaky toys and people call me “wigglebum” becuase I am just so happy that my whole body wags along with my tail!

I am looking for an active home where people will have plenty of time to exersise me..and play..and I would be better with older children due to my size as I can be a little clumsy at times. If you think you have the time and space for this lovely big bear please give us a call.

Zeb – 4 year old male Akita
This is Zeb and he is a 4 year old male Akita , looking for a new home due to the sad death of his owner. Initially wary of new people, Zeb soon settled out on a walk with our assessor and once he had got used to his company, relaxed enough for a fuss and a stroke. A fan of footballs and tug toys, Zeb loves being outside and adores a nice walk! With a good knowledge of commands, Zeb has a nice nature, however he does need to get know new people before being comfortable in their company. Showing some aspects of food possession, Zeb also displays more than a little Akita stubbornness!

With this in mind, we will only consider applications from owners with previous large breed experience and knowledge of food possession issues. Families with young children will not be considered. Zeb has been brought up around Grandchildren of varying ages and is close to his family. The death of his owner has understandably affected him, leaving him confused without his companion. Could Zeb be the boy you are looking for? Please get in touch with FOA!!

Meet 13 month old male Diesel who is a handsome Akita. He is friendly boy, who instantly rolled onto his back for a tickle on meeting our assessor! Looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances, Diesel adores attention, and was happy for our assessor to stroke, fuss and even cuddle him. Inquisitive and playful, Diesel is not particularly bothered by toys, but enjoys playing with a tennis ball and will even fetch!

Gentle with treats and food, Diesel has not displayed signs of food possession, and is happy to sit on command. Initially strong on the lead, Diesel is incredibly responsive to correction, and keen to please. Currently living with children, we feel that given Diesel’s laid back manner he could potentially be re-homed to a family situation. Furthermore, Diesel at present lives with other dogs, and with the right introductions could possibly live with another dog in his new home.

Meet 4 year old male Boxer who is a handsome Akita, who appears to have had a pretty horrible life so far. Recently rescued by a well meaning individual, Boxer was subsequently left with a family member who was unable to cope, leading to Boxer ending up in the local pound. Saved now through the kind help of the Stray Dog Sanctuary and GSD rescue, Boxer is now in safe kennels, awaiting a new home. Our assessor met Boxer and found him to be a happy boy, eager to run up wagging to say hello!

Very playful, Boxer had a good play with some toys, and has not shown any signs of object possession. Polite and well mannered with treats, Boxer gently took titbits and demonstrated his basic knowledge of commands. Given the life that Boxer appears to have had so far, he seems to have come through this with happiness and confidence, resulting in a lovely, well balanced young man.
For more information about Boxer, please get in touch.
Buddy – 2 year old male Akita
Meet 2 year old male Buddy who is a handsome Akita, looking for a new home. Currently being kept in a garden shed and never walked, Buddy is understandably frustrated and full of energy – something we are certain would be entirely different in a new home where he would be walked and exercised suitably. Friendly and affectionate, Buddy was excited to meet our assessor, and started to lick him as he leaned in for a cuddle! Buddy has a basic knowledge of commands, however this is something that we feel can be further progressed in a new home. Buddy has not had a walk in months; his owner does not possess a lead so unfortunately we were unable to assess Buddy’s on-lead manners!

Currently living with small children, Buddy has little interaction with them due to his bounciness, with this in mind Buddy will not be placed in a home with a young family. Could you offer Buddy the home and attention he so desperately needs? Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Meet 4 year old male Barkley who is a handsome Akita, a striking and happy-go-lucky boy looking for a new home after being found as a stray and taken to a pound. A vocal boy who likes attention, Barkley responded incredibly well to our assessor, who quickly found “walkies” to be a favourite word! A big fan of a really good tickle and a scratch, Barkley quickly relaxed in the company of our assessor and despite not being very interested in her treats, was keen to show off his knowledge of commands.

A master of “sit”, “stay” and “wait” Barkley proved himself to be responsive whilst on the lead, whilst initially pulling he enjoyed a god jog, followed by walking nicely to heel on the way back to the kennels. As a stray without history, Barkley is as yet untested with other animals, and will not be placed in a home with young children. Could you take Barkley into your heart and home? Please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

This is Sumo and he is a 14 month old female Akita. He is an incredibly friendly handsome looking for a new home. Heading straight to our assessor for a fuss, he adores to be cuddled, stroked and rewards this behaviour with plenty of kisses! As a young dog, he can still get quite excitable, and whilst he knows commands, he sometimes needs a little bit of coaxing however we are confident that his training will come on in leaps and bounds in a new home. Well behaved with treats, he is gentle and does not demonstrate any signs of food aggression or guarding. Currently living with an older collie, he has had very little socialisation and consequently is unsure how to behave around them. Our assessor felt that this was less a sign of dog aggression and more of a lack of socialisation, which could be addressed in a new home. He presently lives with small children who he is gentle around, however he would benefit from a home with older children as such will not be placed in a home with a young family.

A stunning and loveable dog, Sumo nearly went home with our assessor! So if you think that Sumo could be the boy for you, please get in touch!
Sumo is currently based in Scotland. This information is subject to change, please visit our website which is updated regularly
