Dougal – 3 year old male West Highland White Terrier

This is Dougal and he is a 3 year old male West Highland White Terrier, he has a mind of his own and if allowed to will do his own thing. He has learnt that sometimes snapping gets him his own way so it would probably be best not to go with children. He does bark, especially at postmen and he doesn’t like travelling in the car – those are his bad points. He is however utterly adorable and is only being given up as his owner has a heart complaint and can no longer care for him. Dougal is his original name, the only other is his pedigree name of Snuffmills Scotch. He was born on the 2nd July 2006.

He is a very lovable little dog although he is not a dog to be cuddled on your knee, he loves being stroked and given a good rub all over his body, especially the first thing in the morning. He was apparently taught not to climb the stairs and will not venture to do so. He loves a walk and he has at least 3 every day. He meets many dogs on his walks and he gets on very well with them. When out of the house he is a perfect dog and butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, it is in the house when he is protecting his property that his temperament changes. We live on a river bank and he hates the seagulls flying over and the birds and the river ducks invading his property’.
He is very well mannered indeed, and a very fine and handsome Westie. He is very good on a lead, and clean in the house. He is a lovely and friendly dog, with lots to give – but he will need a terrier-savvy carer: his fosterer has been nipped 3 times by him – by no means deliberate bites, more of an accidental collision of hand and teeth when both were retrieving the same item at the same time. His ideal home would be with a bigger dog who he will look up to and respect, and a kind but firm human to keep him in his place.

Tuppence – 2 year old female Jack Russell Terrier

Tuppence is a Jack Russell Terrier of approximately 2 years old. She came over from Ireland after being picked up as a stray 6 weeks pregnant and never claimed. The pound were going to spay her as they could find no rescues to take her pregnant, but this would have meant having to euthanase all the puppies. When we heard about her and her babies plight, we agreed to take her to save their lives and just in time…there were a matter of hours before her operation was due!

Tuppence gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies and they have all now found loving homes. Tuppence was reserved, but a week before adoption was due, the home fell through, so she is once again looking for a new home.

Tuppence is an exceptionally loving and beautiful companion. She has got a wonderful nature with people, although she does jump up at young children. It is for the purpose of washing them, but it does tend to worry them so it is best that she is homed with children over 8 years old.

Tuppence lives well with my own dogs, but does have a jealous streak in her, so care would need to be given on introductions. It is only rarely that she will have a little snap (never at people!) but once corrected then she is fine and it is only ever over who is getting the cuddle! She gets on really well with my own resident four and has accepted all shapes and sizes of dog into the home since arriving ten weeks ago.

Tuppence is clean in the home and can be left for short periods of time. Her recall is excellent when out on walks although she has to go and greet every dog she comes across and then greet whoever is walking it!
Tuppence did chase cats when she arrived, but she has settled well with our own five. If cats were in the home, then they would have to be calm laid back cats who were used to dogs. She is terrier in nature and would chase if they ran although she would not hurt a cat…it is just her instinct.

Sadly she is not great with small caged animals. She was picked up as an adult and she cannot get past the rat/rabbit/ferret barrier, so she is best not homed with any sort of animal that would be outside in a grass run etc.

Tuppence has now been spayed, first vaccinated and microchipped, plus wormed and defleaed. A homecheck will be carried out and a minimum rescue donation applies. If you can offer Tuppence a home please contact us.

Tyke – 2 year old male Terrier Cross

Tyke is 2 a 2 year old male Terrier Cross and has lots of energy to go for walks and play he is missing his teenage child companion, so a good family dog. He needs more work on his recall.

A training school would be ideal for him. He knows ‘fetch/sit/down/come/stay’. He enjoys a game of tug and doesn’t mind losing either. He goes to his crate to sleep and can be shut in for short periods. He is also a good house dog and warns you of any one about. Tyke lost his home as the 2 nervous cats were gradually coming in less and less and
owner felt guilty as the cats were there a long time before him.

Alphie is 1 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is exuberant but can be left crated for up to 4 hours after a walk, with some chew toys etc. He is outgoing but minds his own business on walks and plays ball.
He is good with dogs when they meet up. Alphie is fine with confident cats, he tends to push his nose into accepting cats. He pulls a bit and training will be needed. He is stunning looking, the real superfine male Staff look. Enjoys a game when everyone gets home. A great character.
