Winston actually came to us at the end of October. We didn’t advertise him straight away as we needed to get to know him and understand him ourselves before we felt we could rehome him. Winston came to us as his owners couldn’t cope with his behaviour. He had been messed around in the year gone by as his owner went to prison. Suddenly Winston’s life was in turmoil. The mans partner took on the dog, but with many comings and goings in the house and no one who understood him, Winston started to display unwanted behaviour. He would guard the house from anyone coming in and he would lunge at people and dogs on walks.
Winston was absolutely fine with the family he knew and loved, they could do anything to him and he would let them. His misguided attempt to protect his family resulted in him coming to us. All the dog staff and some trusted dog walkers soon got to know Winston, we all won him over with sausages and walks! He is now a firm favourite amongst all that know and love him here. Once he knows you he is a loving, affectionate, playful big baby! However, he will still try to protect those he loves, so care is always taken when we walk him as he has to be distracted from strangers approaching.
Winston will make a wonderful friend. He absolutely needs someone with experience of this type of behaviour. He needs a very sensible home that will spend as long as it takes to get to know him here, that will listen to everything we are saying about his behaviour and will carefully follow all our advice, so that he is never put in a position to bite. Winston needs a very stable home. He needs someone/a couple with absolutely no children visiting and no children likely to be in the picture in the future. A middle aged couple with stable circumstances would suit him best. Winston is still young so would need someone around for most of the day. He is not good with other dogs so needs to be the only pet and care needs to be taken when walking. He needs a quiet, calm home. He will need to be locked away in another room if anyone visits. Once you bond with Winston, you see his adorable side, his cute, goofy, loving personality shines through. He will truly make a wonderful friend once given the chance.
Winston also has cherry eye. He has been operated one once but it has failed. He is due to undergo a further, different type of operation to see if this will work.
Please don’t call us if you simply like this breed of dog. We require a very specific home for Winston. He will make a sweet companion.READ MORE ABOUT THIS DOG...
