Cairn Terrier

Jenka – 13 year old female Cairn Terrier

Jenka is a 13 year old female Cairn Terrier currently being fostered in Nantwich, Cheshire who originally came into our care back in Dec 2008, she was abandoned and left by the owner who was traced by the Inspector. Jenka was rehomed over a year ago but sadly because of Jenka being so vocal her owner cannot cope. Jenka does bark a lot, normally when she wants something i.e. to go out, to eat etc.

Jenka is spayed, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and health checked. She’s got a slight heart murmur which is common in older dogs, she has a “smokers cough” according to the vet. When she first come in she had been badly neglected but several visits to the vets, an operation and a full dental had given Jenka a new lease of life. Jenka had gone through so much, she was a real fighter! Jenka’s fur was long and matted.

Jenka had been with us several months and she really enjoyed life with her fosterer at the time-she wasn’t a problem at all. She loves her walks immensely so needs several a day but she also likes plenty of snoozes. She cannot be off lead so needs a big garden for off lead exercise. She is not food or toy possessive. She will need occasional visits to the groomers. She’s the kind of dog who is happier if she chooses where she wants to sleep, she may be happier sleeping near or with her new owner; however she doesn’t like going upstairs!

Jenka is now fine with dogs, she particularly loves male dogs. Her current owner feels that she would be better off with a male owner or a couple as she seems to love men! She is house trained and travels ok but took a lot of hard work to get her used to the car. We believed Jenka to be hard of hearing when she was with us previously but it may actually be selective hearing!

We need an experienced terrier owner. Ideally we are looking for a pet and child free home; however we would consider a male dog as a companion if they get on. She needs someone who is around all the time, perhaps you are retired?

We are so saddened that Jenka is being rehomed again at her age; we know her owner has worked hard with Jenka as did her foster Mum; we love her to bits and dearly want her to find her forever home where her new owner will be more forgiving of her vocal abilities! She’s such a sweet dog, full of character, remember just because she’s an oldie doesn’t mean she’s not active; her age deceives us!
