Chow Chow

Kumo - 4 year old male Chow Chow

Kumo is a female Chow Chow aged approximately 4 years old who arrived at Battersea as a stray, she was micro-chipped and our lost dogs & cats department located an owner but sadly they were not in the position to have her back. The Chow was originally bred as a general purpose working dog for herding, hunting, sled pulling and guarding but they are now very much a companion and pet.

Ideally we are looking for experienced owners used to Chows, Shar-Pei or similar Spitz breeds, she is not suitable for the first time dog owner as will need a confident approach to her training and lots of grooming. Laid back character who will take time to bond with her new owner, once she has Kumo will be very loyal.

Chows can be stubborn and independent, they are often cautious of strangers and not comfortable with unknown people forcing attention on them but will be become very affectionate to those they have bonded to. Once settled Kumo could be left for short periods, she appears to be house trained and travels well in a car.

Unfortunately Kumo cannot live with children as we have no history, teenagers would be considered. Kumo could possibly live with a calm male dog, she is not overly interactive with other dogs and prefers gentle dogs. As Chows were originally bred to herd and hunt they often still have this instinct, this is true for Kumo and she cannot live with cats or other small pets.

In experienced hands Kumo will be a joy to have around, if you feel she could be the dog for you please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443, apply online or email us on bow.rehomers@dogshome.org.
