Deerhound Cross

Flint – 3-4 year old male Deerhound cross Greyhound

We think that Flint is most probably straight deerhound cross greyhound. He landed with us after being an unclaimed stray and was extremely thin and in quite dire condition. Please don’t just see the words rough coat and deerhound and rush to offer Flint a home take the time to read on….

Flint is a wonderful affectionate loving boy BUT he is a big dog, strong on the lead, quite determined and is also quite bouncy and currently a bit of a handful. Flint will need a lurcher experienced home with people who are around alot of the time to give him the excercise he needs and also put work into settling him down. Out on the kennels walk he is fine with most of the dogs BUT if he were to live with another dog it would need to be a calmer female who would not encourage his over zealous behaviour. Flint is NOT cat friendly!

Although Flint is slightly older we do feel he would not be suitable for a home with full time workers, he will definately need adopters willing to work with him and us to help him settle in gradually. This boy is so desperate to bond and love that he can get a bit carried away with his need to be with you so again I re-iterate work will need to be put into this.

Flint travels well and is trying very hard to be clean in his kennels but he will need a little help to begin with with housetraining. That said he is a bright boy and will pick it up quickly. We would also strongly suggest that Flint attends training classes for both socialisation and training, he needs help to focus and learn to concentrate instead of being so desperate to please he gets carried away.

Due to Flint being a large dog although good with the children at the kennels he would be best homed with dog sensible teenagers and older.

With time and patience this daft lad will be a wonderful loyal loving companion who will bring a lot of laughs and joy into a new families lives.

Flint is vaccinated, kennel cough vaccinated, treated for parasites, microchipped and castrated.

If you are interested in offering Flint a home in the first instance please fill in the pre adoption questionnaire and we will get back to you…

Jimmy – 2 year old male Deerhound Cross

Jimmy is a young adult Deerhound cross about 2 years old with the most superb temperament. He is slightly anxious around boisterous dogs and will growl but is relaxed and happy with steady dogs including little dogs like Jack Russell and Yorkshire Terriers. Jimmy has damage to the ligaments in his leg and is not yet ready to be rehomed until early December but we are asking you to register an interest in whether you would like to consider him at that time. Update from vet – Jimmy is healing extremely well, he has his bandage removed and is now using the leg for short walks 3 times a day.

Ongoing physiotherapy exercises are helping maintain flexibility and preventing too much muscle wastage. The vet is extremely pleased with his progress, but points out he will have to be kept on lead for six months.

Jimmy has been used as a working dog to hunt so is very keen when he sees a cat or hears owls screech when walking in the dark, so care must be taken with small furry animals as may hurt them. Experience of this type of dog would be valuable. Rehome within 100 miles of West Yorkshire.
