English Springer Spaniel

Rose – 4-6 year old female English Springer Spaniel

Rose is an English Springer spaniel aged 4 – 6, she is house trained and good in the home. She is calm and quiet in the house but she is a typical spaniel once outside. Her recall needs to be worked on as she likes to chase the birds but she loves her treats so that should help. She came in with an eye infection which is being treated and so in her picture her eyes look red after receiving her eye drops.

She is happy around other dogs so could live with another or as an only dog. Experience of the breed or at least experience of owning a gun dog would be ideal. She does not like to play with any toys yet but with training Im sure she will see them as fun interactive things A home check and donation is required, please only enquire if you are ready to adopt a dog now.

Spud could live in a family with children aged 12 years plus.

Sam – 15 month old male English Springer Spaniel

Sam is a 15 month old Springer Spaniel cross Border Collie. He is a very sweet boy, in need of a very active home where he can get lots of cuddles and lots of walks. Sam came to his current foster home a couple of months ago and he had no basic training. But in that time he has improved immensely due to consistent training and positive reinforcement – this must be continued in his new home. His lead training needs to be worked on but he is crate trained and paces around the house when he wants to go out to toilet. He has no problems with food and he loves to run around. It would be best for him to not live with cats but he is happy to live with other dogs and older children. He absolutely loves other dogs – he just wants to play when out and about, but is submissive to his housemate when at home.

Sam’s fosterer says that since first fostering Sam back in November he has come on in leaps and bounds:
“When he first came in, he didn’t know what it was to be a dog. But since then, he has learnt so much.

His manners are coming on brilliantly, he sits for food and waits with slobber dribbling till he is told he can have it. He will not jump up at visitors anymore, he does still bark at the postman but we are working on that and he is very clever so will be there in no time. He will play ball all day if you have the energy and no dogs come along to have a sniff (they’re more fun than tennis balls) and when we sit down quietly for an evening he will bring toys to you for you to throw for him. He most definitely has Collie in him!

Sam loves to sit on you for cuddles if you sit on the floor and will rest his head on your lap for a stroke when you’re sat on chairs or sofas – he doesn’t care how he gets his cuddles so long as he gets them!!

Sam has been a joy to foster and seeing him grow from a scared animal into a little man has been a privilege. Whoever is lucky enough to re-home him will get immense pleasure from having him around and seeing him grow so much further with the training they put in. He is a special boy and needs a special owner to give him the time and training he deserves.”

Sam is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is currently on foster in South Wales but we re home across the UK.

If you’re interested in adopting Sam, please read our adoption guidelines and procedure;

Daisy – 2 year old female English Springer Spaniel

Daisy is a 2 year old English Springer Spaniel and is currently on foster in Cardiff. Just look into those eyes, who could resist? The delightful Daisy is looking for a new home where she will get a lot of love and attention and enjoy an active lifestyle. Daisy adores people and is a very loving and loyal dog. She is currently living in foster care with older children and teens and is well behaved. She can sometimes be bouncy and excitable so would not suit a home with under 8′s.

Daisy’s love of people and being part of the action mean she would not be suitable to live with a full time worker. Although she will relax if left for a short time she would not be comfortable being left for longer periods. She has always been left with canine company in her foster home.

Daisy has been unwell for a while with digestive issues and has undergone investigations and veterinary treatment. She has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This condition will be with her for life and dietary management and steroids will be required. The dosage for her steroids is currently being perfected but will cost between £5 and £10 per month. These costs would need to be covered by her adoptive home. Daisy is stabilising with her foster home and they are getting a real handle on the condition. The stress of moving could make things worse again for a short time and in fact stress in general could influence the condition from now on. Daisy will not need to be wrapped in cotton wool but stress and worry needs to be kept to a minimum.

Daisy is well socialised and is good with other dogs. She is currently living in foster care with canine company and came in to our care from a multi dog household. She is also good with dogs she meets out on walks. She would love a home with canine company even if it means the threat of sharing her chews! Daisy can be possessive over chews and treats towards other dogs and this would need to be managed carefully in a new home. Daisy cannot be rehomed with resident cats as she shows far too much interest for comfort!

Daisy is intelligent and biddable and will need lots of mental stimulation in her new home. She already has an excellent grasp of basic commands and has been attending training classes with her foster home. Further work will need to be done regarding her walking on a lead and recall building on the foundations laid already. Daisy is very excited when she sees her lead and can pull at first. When running off lead Daisy gets down to the real springer business of flushing birds and other wildlife and her recall needs further improvements. For this reason we would love to find a home experienced with spaniels or other working breeds. Daisy will need to be trained using positive, kind methods only.
Daisy is a young and active dog and will need a home who love to be outdoors where she will get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

Daisy is completely house trained but like many gundogs she can leak urine when excited or being submissive. This is usually when greeting new people if they make a big fuss of her.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

Spike and Sweet – 9 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross and 9 year old female English Springer Spaniel

Spike is a 9 year old male Staffordshire Bull terrier cross. Spike is an older boy who is around the size of a small labrador , he is a friendly boy who is easy on the lead and enjoys the company of people. He met other dogs on his walk and was well behaved and gets on well with his kennel mate. Spike is fine to be touched all over and will be a lovely companion. Sweet is 9 yr old Springer spaniel.

Sweet is a lively lad who will need regular exercise to keep him content. Sweet is energentic when walking but he does respond to some commands and is always dashing back to check you are still with him. A really lovely boy who is just keen to please, he will blossom in the right home and become a wonderful pet for the right family. These two need a new home together.

Spike-male

UPDATE: From one of our volunteer dog walkers. I met Spike and Sweet yesterday for the first time, i took them for a walk, Spike on a long line and Sweet on a extendable lead, both walked well and were easy to walk, they both enjoyed exploring and sniffing, both were responsive and sat for a treat. Spike greeted me like a long lost friend and it was very easy to fall under he’s charm he is a very loving older boy and greeted all we met like he had greeted me.

Sweet-female

Sweet enjoyed a fuss but was much more interested in exploring, he was a typical Springer spaniel and his tail never stopped . They were both easy going dogs and would make wonderful companions, if it was not already i had my own dogs i would be sure to want to take these two home.
