Fell Terrier

Fred – 4 year old male Fell Terrier

Homing Requirements: Fred’s future family will own at least one other fluent dog. They will understand the patient, slow and understanding needed to enable Fred to develop skills, with staged exposure to life commenced within foster. Fred is not to wear a collar until February and always to have a harness for walking so no pressure is applied to his throat. Fred needs to attend our vets in Teddington in May so Rescue Remedies can review post operative outcome, we will pay.

His Story: Fred was held back as a Fell Terrier stud dog within breeding kennels. He sustained a bad throat injury needing surgery within the kennels and came to us with very restricted breathing and exercise tolerance. We did a major op, a one-off corrective procedure and he has made a very good recovery.

Video: Fred with Brandy. Brandy doesn’t play and gives a low growl which Fred doesn’t react to:

Advert: Fred is 4 years old and has just come out of his breeder’s kennels where he has been all his life. He is dog fluent and non-aggressive, has always shared a kennel with a bitch and enjoys the company of other dogs. Fred is enjoying human company and is receptive to approach and touch. He loves to be stroked behind his ears and tummy: naturally clingy, just can’t get enough of what he has never had before … human companionship! Tolerant of household objects and noises as novel as they must seem. He has heightened awareness to movements rather than to noise, shying away. Fred has just had a major throat operation and made a very good recovery. We are using a harness, taking care not to involve his throat in walking. Fred has yet to start vaccinations, though is neutered and chipped.

Fred is a Red Fell terrier. He has a soft wire-ish coat which seems a contraction but true. He is learning to walk tall and is a hundred miles away from the original picture on his thread where he was walking with a stooped submissive back, though his nature remains submissive. Fostered in with a Terrier bitch who is getting used to having another dog in her house and Fred has been brilliant in sending no threatening vibes! Now beginning to walks outside, beginning to use the garden and enjoying love, both the giving and receiving.

Bobby – 6 year old male Fell Terrier

Homing Requirements: Bobby needs a family who have confidence in terriers and facilitate him, exploring his energy and learning to check it whilst meeting and greeting. Bobby needs a terrier proof garden and exit management. A family who enjoys terrier antics!

His Story: Bobby has been owned by his family since a pup. Change of circumstance and Bobby is now left whilst his owner is working full time and can’t afford a dog walker. She has very little ‘Bobby time’ and is conscious Bobby does not have his own garden. His owner wants him to have an active and dog centered life. Neutered and fully vax’d

Advert: Bobby’s isn’t a confident terrier. He then leads the show, getting over excited when he gets the opportunity to meet people or dogs. He can learn to settle and develop trust as he has done with a Golden retriever. He was ‘nippy’ as a young dog so his welcoming dance is controlled. Bobby needs his own garden and this will help him to express and explore his energy, as it is very pent up currently.

Bobby is a ‘Fell Terrier’ who has been raised in a family who cared for him and have wanted to offer him the best but don’t have the active lifestyle, nor time to devote to his walks and training needs. Bobby is just 6 years young and has a whole new life ahead of him to reach his fullfilment with. He is charming and every bit the entertainer. If terriers make you cry with laughter then he is your man; if they make you cry with disbelief, then perhaps be true to yourself and don’t go for a Fell fella!

Alfie – 3 year old male Fell Terrier

Homing Requirement: Alfie needs a family who understands terriers and have an active lifestyle, but not highly social as he doesn’t cope with visitors very well unless they are ‘doggie’ sensitive. Alfie needs a family without children and a quieter dog centered lifestyle. Can be left and on the whole dog friendly. Can suffer skin itching with grass pollen. Not for cats or small furries.

His Story: Alfie is in his 3rd home. 1st: lived with dogs, but lost his first home due to change of circumstances. 2nd: very successful, but they were expecting a baby and that was no longer viable for Alfie. Then homed as an only dog in London and wasn’t coping with urban lifestyle and lots of visitors. Alfie is neutered, vax’d and chipped. Alfie is fostered with 3 other terriers in Hertfordshire.

Advert: Alfie has been loved all his life. Alfie is a treasured pet indeed and a terrier to his paws tips. Alfie has been a student and has a bronze training award. He is a good teacher to the ways of the Fell terrier! Alfie copes with being left, an active lifestyle and enjoys his toys.

Alfie is an adorable lad who approaches life with bravado. Yes, Alfie is a ‘working type’ terrier who has instincts which on the whole have been overlaid with training. He has good dog skills to enjoy social encounters but needs the confidence of a terrier owner. He would love to live with another dog(s) but needs a child free living environment as many terriers prefer. Supervision and management around visitors as he can get nippy particularly with non-doggie people. Alfie is typical of his breed, comes highly trained and socialised. What a GEM and a fun dog!
